Communication mer-lagune: impact d'une réouverture sur l'ichtyofaune de la lagune Ebrié (Côte d'Ivoire)

The artificial reopening of the lagoon inlet, made in Grand-Bantam in September 1987 in order to reduce the aquatic weeds proliferation, induced some environmental and fish communities alterations in the eastern part of the Ebrié lagoon (Côte d'Ivoire). A preliminary field survey made in May 1988 shows an increase in the salinity rate and an increase of the marine component among fish communities, when compared to the former ecological state of this lagoon area (reference data of 1980 and 1981).

L'oxygene au large de Grand Bassam (Cote d'Ivoire)

The present paper deals with the variations of the dissolved oxygen content off Grand Bassam (11 miles east of Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire), during nearly five years (March 1966 to September 1970). Although we find in general the low oxygen values near the bottom, the dissolved oxygen content is at its absolute minimum during the upwelling. There is a good correlation between the Secchi depth and the depth of the well ventilated layer. About 10% of surface irradiance is found at the layer where the dissolved oxygen content equals 80% of the oxygen content found at surface.

Quelques observations sur la présence des Cumacés dans le zooplancton des eaux néritiques de Côte d'Ivoire

Cumacea were only observed in night plankton of the Côte d'Ivoire continental shelf. However they are not always observed and their occurrence seems to depend on the marine seasons. In September, December and April, the catches were very poor indeed, whereas May and June showed interesting results. Most of the species are rarely seen in the upper layer. Several activity rhythms could be shown for the most common species present in the hauls.

The Lune catchment abstraction management strategy. Consultation document September 2003

This consultation document sets out the proposed future licensing strategy for the Lune Catchment Abstraction Management Strategy (CAMS) area. Following the three month consultation period, the Environment Agency will determine the final licensing strategy and publish it in the CAMS document. The strategy will provide an indication of whether new abstraction licences are likely to be available and the conditions that should be expected on licences. Water plays a vital role in the Lune catchment, providing water for public supply, supporting recreation, such as angling and canoeing, and providing sustainable flows to preserve numerous designated sites. There is minimal abstraction throughout much of the catchment, apart from the lower reaches of the River Lune. The document is split into five sections relating to the CAMS process. Sections 1 to 4 outline the CAMS process, and Section 5 outlines the proposed licensing strategy for the Lune CAMS areas. It is important to note that this strategy deals with groundwater and surface water abstractions separately; Sections 4 and 5 are split to differentiate between the surface water and groundwater results and strategy.

Rivers Ribble and Hodder - habitat improvement

In order to improve the habitat of the Rivers Ribble and Hodder in the north west of England it is necessary to assess existing fish stocks. To assist the Ribble Fisheries Association a test census of stock has been made on the rivers Hodder and Ribble. The fish have been taken by electro fishing techniques. The following fish were collected over six days in September 1965: dace, chub, grayling, eel, salmon and trout. This short report summarises the findings of the survey.
