Es descriuen els objectius, l'estructura i el funcionament de la Secció de Gestió i Màrqueting de l'IFLA, i es presenten els principals projectes de futur.

Informe sobre la 63a IFLA Conference (Copenhaguen, setembre de 1997)

La conferència anual de l'IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) -enguany la 63a- va tenir lloc a Copenhaguen, Dinamarca, entre el 30 d'agost i el 6 de setembre de 1997. Els congressos de l'IFLA tenen un contingut professional que abraça tots els àmbits de la biblioteconomia. Durant la setmana que dura el congrés les diverses seccions, taules rodones i altres grups en què s'organitza l'entitat mantenen reunions tancades en les quals es revisen els objectius del grup i els treballs duts a terme durant l'any, es planifiquen nous projectes i es preparen les properes reunions. Així mateix, cada grup organitza sessions obertes i seminaris en els quals es presenten treballs i es debaten qüestions professionals.

Recursos web i metadades: informe del projecte

El projecte Recursos web i metadades, que ha comptat amb una ajuda econòmica de la Divisió V per a projectes de recerca, es plantejà amb l'objectiu principal de comprovar les dificultats d'aplicació del sistema de metadades DC a la descripció de les pàgines d'un lloc web universitari i l'efectivitat d'aquestes metadades tant per a la descripció de recursos web com per a la seva ulterior cerca i recuperació. Per al desenvolupament del projecte s'han adaptat i desenvolupat una sèrie d'eines de les quals també es vol comprovar l'eficàcia. En aquest informe s'explica el desenvolupament del projecte, el seu estat el novembre de 2001 i també les eines desenvolupades

Fundraising: oportunitats i usos en les pràctiques de captació de recursos per patrocini, mecenatge o sponsorització.

Es comenten les característiques de les actuacions de patrocini, mecenatge de les empreses en l'àmbit cultural, concretament el de les unitats d'informació, i per a la realització de projectes concrets. A més, s'indiquen les passes que cal seguir per obtenir fons i finançar amb èxit un projecte, amb exemples de cada cas. El benefici és mutu: la imatge i la reputació de l'empresa en surt beneficiada i li pot permetre arriba a sectors on abans no tenia prou volum de negoci; al seu torn, la unitat d'informació patrocinada pot dur a terme projectes que, si només depenen del seu pressupost habitual, no podrien realitzar-se.

Carol A. Brey-Casiano: «Sí, podem fer-ho!»

Entrevista a Carol A. Brey-Casiano, presidenta de l'American Library Association. Es parla del paper de la biblioteca pública en poblacions amb molts immigrants, del bibliotecari als EUA, d'alguns projectes de promoció de biblioteques que hi tenen lloc, de l'ALA i els seus conflictes arran la promulgació de la Patriot act.

Digitalització dels llibres de les biblioteques

Es descriuen els diversos projectes d¿abast global que darrerament s'han presentat per digitalitzar de forma massiva els llibres de les biblioteques. S'analitzen els objectius d'aquest tipus de projectes i els aspectes tecnològics i d'organització que comporten. Finalment, es comenten les implicacions que aquests nous serveis poden tenir pels que ja proporcionen les biblioteques i en la funció social d'aquests centres.

El patrimoni bibliogràfic i la política de digitalització a Catalunya

L'article fa un repàs a les polítiques aplicades a Catalunya de digitalització del patrimoni bibliogràfic per part de les biblioteques i també de les polítiques de preservació digital. Es constata que les actuacions en digitalització no s¿estan fent seguint una planificació o uns objectius àmpliament acceptats, sinó sobre la base de projectes de curt abast i fragmentaris. També s'observa una gran dependència de les biblioteques dels recursos tècnics externs, que es poden obtenir per externalització dels processos o per l'establiment de convenis de col·laboració. En el camp de la preservació digital no s'han iniciat actuacions malgrat que els dipòsits digitals estan creixent en volum de documents emmagatzemats.

Avaluació de revistes i avaluació de la recerca en humanitats i ciències socials a Catalunya: aproximació a un problema

The evaluation of the quality and impact of journals as a starting point to systematise the quality of research is an indirect method commonly used for obtaining information for systematic and major evaluation efforts, such as those needed for public tenders to aid projects and research groups. Nevertheless, this method runs into an important obstacle: preparing rankings of journals in the humanities and social sciences is considerably more complex than for those on experimental, biomedical or technological sciences. Cultural, linguistic and territorial components of research in the humanities and social sciences radically question the international rankings. Within this context, the article presents the experience of a study-in-progress whose intention is to evaluate the rankings of journals in the humanities and social sciences published in 1997 by the Generalitat de Catalunya. Even thought an attempt was made to bring this type of titles closer to the Catalan community of researchers, the initiative has been frequently surrounded by controversy and criticism and, at the present, does not enjoy the needed recognition of the Catalan academic sector.

Història del llibre, les biblioteques i la lectura

L'article descriu les principals aportacions i activitats desenvolupades entorn de la història del llibre, les biblioteques i la lectura al nostre país en els anys 2008 i 2009. Una exhaustiva revisió bibliogràfica analitza les obres que han aparegut en cadascun dels àmbits estudiat. En altres apartats, s¿identifiquen les principals línies de recerca i les diverses accions destinades a la difusió. La quantitat, qualitat i varietat de les aportacions són un indicador de l¿interès que els temes estudiats susciten entre la comunitat científica i bibliotecària, i posen de relleu l¿amplitud cronològica i la multiplicitat de mirades amb què s¿aborden els estudis i els projectes.

L'administració electrònica i la gestió de documents

The projects dealing with e-government are currently the principal factor in instigating the changes taking place within the public administration. This change, which is considered unstoppable, has important implications regarding the management and conservation of administrative documents generated by electronic transactions. This article analyses the methodological, legal and cultural challenges that come about when the archives paradigm is included within e-government projects and also the consequences that this may have on the archives themselves. In conclusion the author proposes a set of methodological solutions for identifying those electronic documents with evidential value, determining their life cycle, defining a preservation policy and creating a digital archive.

La figura del consultor a empreses del sector tecnològic: oportunitats d'ocupació per als titulats en BiD

The article offers an extrapolation based on the author's own experience, describing the main characteristics of projects undertaken by companies in the technological sector and the typical functions performed by consultants in this area. The principal objective is to introduce the profile of consultant as a potential employment niche for those graduates in Library and Information Science who would like to specialise in this area, once having acquired the complementary training that is needed

Information and communication technologies enabled cultural and scientific patrimony -and information in general- to be presented in digital format, as well as in traditional analogical formats. The response was immediate and since the decade of the 1990s different projects have been designed to guarantee permanent access to the digital production -retrieval, storage, handling, preservation and dissemination. This article presents an international overview of existing models of national digital repositories, a name given to these projects that are normally generated by national libraries with a common objective: ensuring that web pages are always accessible.
