La renovación de las metodologías de enseñanza-aprendizaje ha puesto el énfasis en la actividad que los estudiantes desarrollan en el proceso de construcción de los aprendizajes. El aprendizaje orientado a proyectos (PBL) es una metodología proactiva basada en la autonomía con que los alumnos enfocan tanto el diseño del proyecto de aprendizaje, como el significado atribuido al mismo. La experiencia de implantación PBL orientada al desarrollo de la competencia en comunicación como eje del aprendizaje cooperativo, ha tenido como resultado una mayor implicación y valoración positiva de los estudiantes acerca de la autonomía y colaboración en el proceso de aprendizaje

Tras varios años de implantación del Programa de Acción Tutorial (PAT), el presente constituye un momento idóneo para realizar una reflexión sobre el camino recorrido, los objetivos alcanzados, los aciertos y errores, tanto superados como pendientes de superación, a los efectos de alcanzar conclusiones y formular propuestas de mejora. Para ello, se ha de llevar a cabo un análisis de las actividades desarrolladas hasta la fecha, al objeto de propiciar una revisión y, partiendo de ella, una reflexión que lleve a conclusiones en relación a la eficiencia de los medios empleados (programas y actividades, formación, difusión, etc) para la consecución de los fines u objetivos inicialmente planteados, lo que debiera permitir observar los puntos fuertes y débiles puestos de manifiesto durante estos primeros años de implantación del sistema y, finalmente, disponer de los instrumentos adecuados para la formulación de propuestas de mejora del programa. Son múltiples los documentos a los que se puede acceder en relación al PAT de la Universidad de Alicante a través de la página web, por lo que me remito a la página correspondiente, evitando la reproducción de datos, e incluyendo en la comunicación únicamente aquéllos cuyo conocimiento resulta imprescindible para la comprensión y coherencia del análisis

El trabajo que aquí se presenta corresponde a una actividad programada en el plan de acción tutorial diseñado para los alumnos que cursan la Licenciatura en Desarrollo Cultural en la Universidad Juárez Autónoma de Tabasco. Los hábitos de estudio, específicamente los relacionados con el estudio independiente, son un elemento fundamental en la educación semipresencial. El alumno debe contar con herramientas para cumplir exitosamente con sus expectativas tanto académicas como personales, por ello es importante tomar en consideración las condiciones ambientales, la motivación, la planificación y la utilización de técnicas

Neste trabalho pretendemos indagar sobre qual o papel que uma metodologia do tipo PBL tem no desenvolvimento de competências pessoais dos alunos, saber se a metodologia melhora as competências pessoais dos diplomados PBL quando comparados com outros graduados, e perspectivar o papel da metodologia ao nível das competências pessoais na construção do perfil de um graduado para o terceiro milénio. Partindo de um estudo de caso de uma IES profissionalizante, recorremos à técnica da entrevista junto dos docentes e entidades empregadoras, e à técnica do questionário junto dos restantes participantes. Os resultados conseguidos com os alunos, diplomados e docentes conduzemnos a sustentar que as metodologias PBL contribuem para o desenvolvimento de competências pessoais, essencialmente ao nível da utilização de recursos e da construção do conhecimento. Mais ainda, parece-nos possível sustentar a possibilidade de inserir nas teorias existentes, a lógica do empreendedorismo, como motivada pelas metodologias PBL. Nos empregadores, detectámos uma persistente tendência em não reconhecerem a metodologia como directamente responsável por uma melhoria de competências pessoais dos diplomados, exceptuando-se uma valorização de fundamentações mais consistentes e de atitudes mais confiantes. O trabalho reflecte ainda sobre o problema da identificação de competências que assegurem as necessidades de um mercado de trabalho multifacetado baseado em estudos e resultados concretos.

The ISO norm line 9241 states some criteria for ergonomics of human system interaction. In markets with a huge variety of offers and little possibility of differentiation, providers can gain a decisive competitive advantage by user oriented interfaces. A precondition for this is that relevant information can be obtained for entrepreneurial decisions in this regard. To test how users of universal search result pages use those pages and pay attention to different elements, an eye tracking experiment with a mixed design has been developed. Twenty subjects were confronted with search engine result pages (SERPs) and were instructed to make a decision while conditions “national vs. international city” and “with vs. without miniaturized Google map” were used. Different parameters like fixation count, duration and time to first fixation were computed from the eye tracking raw data and supplemented by click rate data as well as data from questionnaires. Results of this pilot study revealed some remarkable facts like a vampire effect on miniaturized Google maps. Furthermore, Google maps did not shorten the process of decision making, Google ads were not fixated, visual attention on SERPs was influenced by position of the elements on the SERP and by the users’ familiarity with the search target. These results support the theory of Amount of Invested Mental Effort (AIME) and give providers empirical evidence to take users’ expectations into account. Furthermore, the results indicated that the task oriented goal mode of participants was a moderator for the attention spent on ads. Most important, SERPs with images attracted the viewers’ attention much longer than those without images. This unique selling proposition may lead to a distortion of competition on markets.

Visual search is an important component of our interaction with our surroundings, allowing us to successfully identify external cues that impact our spatial navigation. Previous research has established fixation duration, fixation count, saccade velocity, and saccade amplitude as important indices of visual search. We examined the Visual Efficiency Detection Index (VEDI) comprising multiple aspects of visual search performance into a single measure of global visual performance. Forty participants, 10 adults ages 22-48, and children ages 6, 8, and 10, completed tests of working memory and visual search in response to stimuli relevant to pedestrian decision making. Results indicated VEDI statistically relates to established indices of visual search in relation to their interpretability for human performance. The VEDI was also sensitive to developmental differences in visual search performance, suggesting insight to its utility in the developmental psychological literature.

La question de la protection des données à caractère personnel posée dans le cadre des activités d’assistance et de soutien des missions civiles de gestion de crise ne semble guère avoir suscité l’intérêt des instances en charge de leur gestion et ce en dépit de son importance majeure au regard des tâches exécutées quotidiennement par les agents de ces missions dans le domaine de la coopération policière et judiciaire en matière pénale. S’appuyant sur une expérience de terrain, l’auteur s’efforcera, dans ces lignes, de démontrer la nécessité d’entamer une réflexion de fond sur ce sujet afin, le cas échéant, de prendre les initiatives utiles destinées à porter remède aux difficultés qui, en ce domaine, pourraient apparaître.

This policy brief illustrates that both the conceptualisation of democracy and the means to achieve it remain vague, and explains why this is problematic. It points out the risks that stem from a lack of clear understanding about how human rights, governance, civil society and socio-economic development relate to democratisation. It concludes that the EU should reflect on the substance of its external democracy promotion policies and conceptualise the relationship between the different elements of democracy promotion cited above and democratisation. While ongoing reforms of international democracy promotion should continue, a wider debate on substance could help identify what the EU should support in the future. The EU should also establish a reflective external democracy promotion policy where the assessment of actions on democratic development becomes systematic and is institutionalised.

Holocene tidal palaoechannels, Severn Estuary Levels, UK: a search for granulometric and foraminiferal criteria. Proceedings of the Geologists' Association, 117, 329-344. Grain-size characteristics (by laser granulometry) and foraminiferal assemblages have been established for silts accumulated in five, dissimilar tidal palaeochannels of mid or late Holocene age in the Severn Estuary Levels, representative of muddy tidal systems. For purposes of general comparison, similar data were obtained from a representative active tidal inlet in the area, but all of these channels have been subject to human interference and are not relied upon as a model for environmental interpretation. Although the palaeochannel deposits differ substantially in their bedding characteristics and stratigraphical relationships from the level-bedded salt-marsh platform and mudflat deposits with which they are associated, and although the channel environment is distinctive morphologically and hydraulically, no critical textural differences could be found between the channel deposits and the associated facies. Similarly, no foraminiferal assemblages distinctive of a tidal channel were encountered. Instead, the assemblages compare with those from mudflats and salt-marsh platforms. It is concluded that the sides of the subfossil channels carried some vegetation, as was observed to be the case in the modern inlet. An alternative approach is necessary if concealed palaeochannel deposits are to be recognized in muddy systems from limited numbers of subsurface samples. Although the palaeochannels afforded no characteristic textural signature, they yield transverse grain-size patterns pointing to coastal movements during their evolution. Concave-up trends suggest outward coastal building, whereas convex-up ones point to marsh-edge retreat.

Enhanced phytoextraction proposes the use of soil amendments to increase the heavy-metal content of above-ground harvestable plant tissues. This study compares the effect of synthetic aminopolycarboxylic acids [ethylenediamine tetraacetatic acid (EDTA), nitriloacetic acid (NTA), and diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA)] with a number of biodegradable, low-molecular weight, organic acids (citric acid, ascorbic acid, oxalic acid, salicylic acid, and NH4 acetate) as potential soil amendments for enhancing phytoextraction of heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Cd, Pb, and Ni) by Zea mays. The treatments in this study were applied at a dose of 2 mmol/kg(-1) 1 d before sowing. To compare possible effects between presow and postgermination treatments, a second smaller experiment was conducted in which EDTA, citric acid, and NH4 acetate were added 10 d after germination as opposed to 1 d before sowing. The soil used in this screening was a moderately contaminated topsoil derived from a dredged sediment disposal site. This site has been in an oxidized state for more than 8 years before being used in this research. The high carbonate, high organic matter, and high clay content characteristic to this type of sediment are thought to suppress heavy-metal phytoavailability. Both EDTA and DTPA resulted in increased levels of heavy metals in the above-ground biomass. However, the observed increases in uptake were not as large as reported in the literature. Neither the NTA nor organic acid treatments had any significant effect on uptake when applied prior to sowing. This was attributed to the rapid mineralization of these substances and the relatively low doses applied. The generally low extraction observed in this experiment restricts the use of phytoextraction as an effective remediation alternative under the current conditions, with regard to amendments used, applied dose (2 mmol/kg(-1) soil), application time (presow), plant species (Zea mays), and sediment (calcareous clayey soil) under study.
