Synanthropic trends in urban andextraurban taxocenoses of Sarcophaginae (Diptera) in three central european cities

An attempt has been made to characterize the synanthropic trends in Sarcophaginae of three Central European cities, viz. Brno, Bratislava and Budapest. The polar ordination of both sarcophagine taxa and of their taxocenoses revealed clear-cut trends towards culturophily and synanthropy in the male preconnubial aggregations of Sarchophaginae evidencing that this group of high Diptera represent an excellent model for the study of this phenomenon.

Novas espécies de Eudorylas Aczél da estação ecológica de Maracá, Roraima, Brasil (Diptera: Pipunculidae)

Five new species Eudorylas Aczél are described from Maracá Ecological Station, Roraima, Brazil, namely: E. aquinoi, E. bentoni, E. caccabatus, E. megasurstylus and E. souzalopesi.

New synonymy and new species in neotropical chloropidae (Diptera)

An ephydrid, Hyadina porteri Brèthes, 1919, is found to be a senior synonym of Hippelates australis Sabrosky, 1955. New combination: Liohippelates porteri (Brèthes). Two new species, Pseudogaurax souzalopesi from Peru and P. silbergliedi from Panama are described and placed in the synopsis by Sabrosky (1966).

Sapromyza lopesi sp. n. from Brazil: a species related to S. duodecimvittata (Frey, 1919) (Diptera: Lauxaniidae)

A new species, Sapromyza lopesi, is described from Brazil, and compared with its closest relative, S. duodecimvittata (Frey). Some remarks are made on the generic classification of South American Lauxaniidae as it affects these and other species.

A new species of Johnstonimyia Lopes from Vanuatu (New Hebrides) (Diptera, Sarcophagidae)

A new species of the genus Johnstonimyia Lopes, namely J. lopesi, is described and illustrated.

Sarcopromusca pruna (Diptera: Muscidae) as an egg transport host of Dermatobia hominis (Diptera: Cuterebridae) in the cacau region of Bahia, Brazil

Sarcopromusca pruna appears to be the predominant transport host for Dermatobia hominis eggs among cattle herds in central eastern Bahia, Brazil. In the study area, two seasonal peaks of S. Pruna abundance coincide with those of Dermatobia, from mid July through late September and from mid November until early January, two periods of moderate monthly rainfall between anual extremes. Among more than 26,000 flies examined during the study, 75 (all female S. pruna) bore Dermatobia eggs. Certain aspects of Dermatobia behavior and ovoposition habits in the field are also discussed.

Os mosquitos (Diptera: Culicidae) do campus ecológico da UFMG, Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais

In a small forest of 4ha placed inside the Ecologic Campus of Federal University of Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, were made captures of mosquitoes each fifteen days (during the day and the night) in a complete year: March 1988 to February, 1989. The daylight captures were made on human bait and the night captures were made with New Jersey trap. Sixty one captures were made, yielding 497 specimens of 15 species.

De larvas e pupas de Musca domestica, Chrysomya albiceps, Cochliomyia homivorax, Stomoxys calcitrans e Syntesiomyia nudiseta coletadas em diversos ambiente, em São Paulo, Paraná, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul e Minas Gerais, foram obtidas dez espécies de microhimenópteros parasitóides da supermamília Chalcidoidea, algumas assinaladas pela primeira vez no Brasil.

Prof. Hugo de Souza Lopes and the modern system of Sarcophagidae (Diptera)

Prof. Dr. Hugo de Souza Lopes is one of the authors of the phylogenetic classification of Sarcophagidae, especially Sarcophaginae. In this paper I present the taxonomic key of the tribes of Sarcophaginae according to his opinion; a list of the 48 genera and subgenera and the 356 species described by Prof. Lopes; and a review of subtribal construction of tribe Sarcophagini with a key of the subtribes. One new subtribe Boettcheriiscina Verves, subtr. nov. and two new monotypic genera (Mufindia Verves, gen. nov., and Sabiella Verves, gen. nov.) are described. The role of Prof. Lopes in the knowledge of taxonomy and ecology of American, Oriental, Australian and Oceanic Sarcophagidae is illumined.

Three new species of Muscida - Caricea acerca, Phaonia yinggeensis and Helina capaciflava - from China are described.

The neotropical biting midges related to Culicoides paraensis (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae)

Culicoides paraensis (Goeldi), a common and widespread American bloodsucking midge that has been incriminated in the transmission of Mansonellosis and Oropouche Fever of humans in South America, is redescribed and figured. All published records are listed and new distribution is based on examination of extensive collections from throughout its range. Three closely related species of the subgenus Haematomyidium that have been confused with C. paraensis are briefly redescribed and figured, and a key is presented for their identification.

Lopesohylemya, a new genus of Anthomyiidae (Diptera) from Qinghai, China

An anthomyiid new genus Lopesohylemya with its type species L. qinghaiensis sp. n. from Qinghai, China, is described and figured. It is closely related to Eustalomyia histrio group, which is transferred to present new genus from Eustalomyia, it is suggested by the authors.

The male genitalia of nine species of Sarcophagidae (Diptera) - Goniophyto honsuensis Rohdendorf, 1962, Tricharaea brevicornis (Wiedemann, 1830), Chaetoravinia derelicta (Walker, 1852), Austrohartigia spinigena (Rondani, 1864), Chrysagria duodecimpunctata Townsend, 1935, Boettcheria bisetosa Parker, 1914, Lipoptilocnema lanei Townsend, 1934, L. crispina (Lopes, 1938) and Euboettcheria alvarengai Lopes & Tibana, 1982 - were examined by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the main morphological features are descirbed.
