Cheese whey permeate was used as a substrate for the fermentation of Propionibacterium freudenreichi PS1 for the production of short chain fatty acids, components of the bio-aroma of Swiss cheese. The liquid bio-aroma was encapsulated by spray drying under different conditions of air inlet temperature and feed rate. A study was carried out on the stability of the bio-aroma during storage in laminated packages at 30 °C for 96 days using the product showing the greatest retention of acetic and propionic acids. The results showed that the best drying conditions were an air entrance temperature of 180 °C and a feed rate of 24 g/min resulting in particles with a smooth surface and few invaginations and micro-fissures. However, 72% of the acetic acid and 80% of the propionic acid were lost during storage showing that the wall material used was inadequate to guarantee product stability.

The marine bioprocessing industry offers great potential to utilize byproducts for fish meal replacement in aquafeeds. Jumbo squid is an important fishery commodity in Mexico, but only the mantle is marketed. Head, fins, guts and tentacles are discarded in spite of being protein-rich byproducts. This study evaluated the use of two jumbo squid byproduct hydrolysates obtained by acid-enzymatic hydrolysis (AEH) and by autohydrolysis (AH) as ingredients in practical diets for shrimp. The hydrolysates were included at levels of 2.5 and 5.0% of the diet dry weight in four practical diets, including a control diet without hydrolysate. Shrimp growth and survival were not significantly affected by the dietary treatments. Postharvest quality of abdominal muscle was evaluated in terms of proximate composition and sensory evaluation. Significantly higher crude protein was observed in the muscle of shrimp fed the highest hydrolysate levels, AH 5% (204.8 g kg- 1) or AEH 5% (201.3 g kg- 1). Sensory analysis of cooked muscle showed significant differences for all variables evaluated: color, odor, flavor, and firmness. It was concluded that Jumbo squid byproducts can be successfully processed by autohydrolysis or acid-enzymatic hydrolysis, and that up to 5.0% of the hydrolysates can be incorporated into shrimp diets without affecting growth or survival.

Pseudotumor cerebral (PC) é uma síndrome, caracterizada pela presença de hipertensão intracraniana (HIC) e sistema ventricular normal. Pacientes submetidos a transplante renal parecem ser mais suscetíveis a desenvolvê-la, devido à terapia com imunossupressores. Ciclosporina (CsA) é uma causa rara de PC, pouco descrita na literatura e que deve ser lembrada no diagnóstico diferencial de HIC e papiledema nesses pacientes. Relatamos um caso de um menino de 10 anos, há três anos com enxerto renal, em uso crônico de micofenolato mofetil (MMF), CsA e baixas doses de prednisona que apresentou quadro de cefaleia, vômitos, diplopia e fotofobia. Fundoscopia revelou edema de papila bilateral. Exame do líquor (LCR) e de imagem foram normais. Após exclusão de causas secundárias, foi feito diagnóstico de PC devido ao uso crônico de CsA, que, portanto, foi substituída por Sirolimus. O paciente apresentou melhora clínica progressiva, com resolução do papiledema após três meses

Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on tarkastella visuaalista runoutta nykyrunouden ilmiönä. Jokainen painettu tai kirjoitettu teos on määriteltävissä visuaaliseksi ja täten visuaalisella ilmaisulla on pitkät perinteensä. Nykyrunoudessa visuaalisuus on noussut kuitenkin keskeiseksi ilmaisutavaksi, mikä myös uudistaa perinteitä. Ilmaisutavan tarkastelu synnyttää katseen ja lukemisen prosesseja, joita havainnollistan tutkimuksessani nimittämällä visuaalista runoa katse- ja lukukoneeksi. Katse- ja lukukoneena runo toimii sekä katseltavista runoa rakentavista typografisista piirteistä että luettavista sisällön sanamerkityksistä. Lopulta näiden piirteiden yhdistyminen luo koko visuaalisen koneiston, jossa painettu sana on merkityksellinen sekä katseltuna että luettuna. Aineistokseni on valikoitunut Henriikka Tavin, Kaisa Ijäksen, Matti Kangaskosken, Olli-Pekka Tennilän ja Harry Salmenniemen runoja. Sovellan aineistoni käsittelyssä keskeisesti Gilles Deleuzen ja Félix Guattarin materialistista epistemologiaa. Viitekehykseni muotoutuu ajatukseen visuaalisesta runoudesta materiaalisena toimintana. Tätä toimintaa on mahdollista tarkastella typografisella, sisällöllisellä ja näiden muotosuhteiden tasolla. Muotosuhteiden tarkastelu on visuaalista lukutaitoa, mikä aktivoi myös katsoja-lukijaa. Kytkökset synnyttävät runoon vuorovaikutuksellista liikettä eli katse- ja lukukoneen toimintamekanismeja
