Originally West Professor's house on North University. Became Homeopathic Hospital. Wing added in rear of building in 1879. School of Dentistry 1875-1877. Psychological Lab 1903-1914. Building razed in 1914. On verso: Homeopathic Medical Building

Catherine Street Hospital

The eastern-most of two similar buildings built in 1891 on Catherine St. The western housed the Homeopathic Hospital from 1891-1900. This building housed the Allopathic Hospital (called Uiversity Hospital) from 1891-1900. (The Homeopathic Hospital had a straight north facade; this building a rounded north facade). From 1900-1925 it housed the Surgical Ward; 1925-1944 the East Convalescent Ward; 1944-1950, the Rapid Treatment Center; 1950-1965, the Institute for Social Research. It was removed in 1965. Veterans Administration Hospital

Dedicated October 18, 1953. This is a general Medical and Surgical Hospital with 488 beds. It is a Residency hospital, cooperating with the Deans Committee, University of Michigan, for the treatment of veterans of our armed force. Color by Lucy Gridley

Opened October 1953. This is a general Medical and Surgical Hospital with 486 beds. It is affiliated with the University of Michigan Medical School for treatment of Veterans of our Armed Forces

Medical Center, U of M

Founded in 1869, this facility was America's first "University Hospital." The 1,000-bed general hospital, with its 200-bed children's hospital (C.S. Mott Hospital), is the heart of a vast health complex which includes School of Medicine, Nursing and Public Health...plus research facilities. The Mary Markley dormitory building may be seen in the foreground.
