This work describes the evolution of temperature measurement in the last four centuries using thermometers based on the thermal expansion of liquids such as ethyl alcohol and mercury. The concept of temperature was strongly dependent on the researcher and there was no systematic temperature scale for universal use. The precursor of the common thermometer was the thermoscope, probably invented at the end of the XVIth century. In the XVIIIth century the instrument was greatly improved and several thermometric scales were proposed some of which have been in use until now. These scales were based on arbitrary points. Mercury and ethyl alcohol were the most employed thermometric fluids. In the XIXth century, the concept of absolute zero was a great advance in this field. The most important contribution during the XXth century was the establishment of international temperature scales. The design of the thermometer has been essentially the same along the last 300 years, but many models were proposed for industrial and research purposes. Its association with the densimeter was of great importance for control of industrial chemical processes and also for teaching purposes in the past. Nowadays, there is a clear tendency to replace mercury-based thermometers by electronic digital models. Thermochemistry is the natural relationship between temperature and chemistry.

This work describes the establishment of the concept of pH and the evolution of its measurement. The origin of the pH definition can be found in the development of the chemistry of aqueous solutions during the XIXth century. The electrolytic dissociation theory by Svante Arrhenius played a central role. After the proposal of the pH scale by Srensen, many years were necessary for the acceptance of this new parameter among chemists in general. Its importance was first recognized in biochemistry and related areas. Twenty years after, its importance had been recognized in many industrial and laboratorial practices. The previous methods were based on colorimetric and electrometric methods, but both suffered from many problems. Acceptance of pH in Chemistry was only possible after the development of experimental trustable measurements. The invention of the pH meter was the primordial step.

The present article comes from a doctoral thesis that turns on digital learner portfolio, which is an innovating methodology from the perspective of European Higher Education Area. First, the educative concept of eportfolio is described in the sense of its procedure and its structure, by means of the technological support of a platform of virtual campus. Second, it is shown the pedagogical model of an eportfolio that adapts subjects with an instrumental character to one organization based on tasks and reflections. This design of virtual learning environment is based on a teaching- learning methodology sustained in the activity of the student, which tries to give support to the management of his or her own process of learning and assessment. Finally, the article illustrates the experience of implementation of the first digital learner portfolios in the University of Barcelona and the Autonomous University of Barcelona, with the objective of reflecting about the pedagogical consequences that this assessment model with technological support has in a traditional higher education institution.

Digital learner portfolios are of growing importance in higher education as the sector seeks new teaching-learning-assessment methods which promote students" autonomy as managers of their own virtual learning environment. The purpose of this study was to analyse descriptively the undergraduate students" perceptions, attitudes and behaviour when using an eportfolio to support their learning and assessment in practice based courses at two traditional Spanish universities. The participants were 88 students, who were studying through a blended learning mode. Data were collected through questionnaires: a computer experience survey, another which examined the psychological, pedagogical and technological dimensions of eportfolios use. Further, an individual overall reflection was obtained from each student to help gain an understanding of their experiences of using the eportfolio. A mixed-method analysis was applied in order to study the impact of this technological innovation on students and their satisfaction. The results showed that the students had positive opinions and self-efficiency through the eportfolio as a tool to manage their learning and assessment during a semester, especially from the second month of use. However, the expected impact on their learning was not so significant. Nevertheless, the students emphasised that the eportfolio was valuable as a personal developmental learning tool.

This paper describes a bibliographic analysis of the vision of Marshal McLuhan and the vision adopted by diverse current authors regarding the use of new interactive learning technologies. The paper also analyzes the transformation that will have to take place in the formal surroundings of education in order to improve their social function. The main points of view and contributions made by diverse authors are discussed. It is important that all actors involved in the educational process take in consideration these contributions in order to be ready for future changes.

El Centre d'Innovaci i Formaci en Educaci (CIFE) de la Universitat de Vic (UVic) promou la creaci, a l'inici del curs 2010-2011, de dos grups dInnovaci. Un dells s el grup CIFE-GI Incorporaci de les TIC a la docncia, que est treballant en lestudi i la utilitzaci deines digitals en la docncia, que integrin els vessants tecnolgic, didctic, metodolgic i formatiu. Durant el curs 2010-2011, el grup ha treballat en la creaci dun Dipsit Digital dActivitats Docents (DDAD) amb la intenci que sigui un espai dintercanvi entre els professors, i de transferncia de les experincies portades a terme a les aules amb el suport de les TIC. Aquesta comunicaci mostra els resultats de lanlisi de les dades registrades en el DDAD fins al juny del 2011, amb lobjectiu didentificar la tipologia daquestes activitats.

A digital game was created as a resource for cognitive learning and afterwards it was used in primary schools in order to survey its active users. The methods used to recollect data were observation, in-depth interviews and focus groups. The main target of this study is to collect points of view of different primary school teachers. Conclusions show us how the group of study members perceive the use of digital games in the classroom.

Des de fa 20 anys, el sector audiovisual viu una important transformaci, tant de loferta com del consum, en el marc de la convergncia digital. La convergncia anuncia la coexistncia dels nous mitjans digitals amb lapogeu duna cultura participativa, protagonitzada per comunitats dusuaris amb una activitat quasi frentica (Jenkins,2008). Noves modalitats de treball cooperatiu que permeten la creaci i recreaci grupal de continguts, i la creaci de comunitats dusuaris que utilitzen i reutilitzen les noves modalitats de serveis. En aquest context, augmenta la segmentaci, la fragmentaci i labonament dels usuaris (Tous, 2009), perqu la tipologia de les plataformes de continguts ha variat de manera significativa, shan incorporat els dispositius mbils i shan diversificat i sofisticat les ofertes a Internet.

La difusin de la tercera generacin de dispositivos mviles y su integracin con la World Wide Web son un reto para los medios de comunicacin. Como en cualquier otro ecosistema, la llegada de una "nueva especie" crea tensin, antiguas especies deben adaptarse a las nuevas especies hbridas y al ambiente (como la televisin mvil) en que aparecen. La comunicacin mvil presenta el mismo reto que present Internet hace 15 aos: tenemos el medio de comunicacin, pero an no sabemos qu hacer con [+]l. Si la web ya ha desarrollado su propia lengua y se han creado nuevos servicios y experiencias, la comunicacin mvil se encuentra todava "en construccin". La importancia de la comunicacin mvil est fuera de discusin: los dispositivos mviles y los servicios son la nueva frontera de la revolucin digital. En este contexto, la investigacin ocupa un lugar estratgico: tanto en Brasil como en Espaa se estn haciendo contribuciones fundamentales a la sociedad mvil y se estn desarrollando nuevos contenidos y servicios para dispositivos mviles.

Internet sha alat en poc temps com el mitj ms utilitzat pels turistes per a planificar, organitzar i comprar un viatge, s per aix que es proposa donar les mateixes facilitats en el dest. La Publicitat Dinmica o Digital Signage s un nou servei de comunicaci que consisteix en un conjunt de tecnologies i aplicacions informtiques que permeten emetre missatges multimdia i comunicar-se aix duna manera innovadora amb el pblic objectiu de cada empresa, si safegeix un sistema independent, multimdia i interactiu que pot utilitzar-se per a proporcionar informaci i/o permetre la realitzaci de transaccions es potencia al mxim el servei. Daquesta manera es proposa crear una Xarxa Digital Multimdia de Kioscs Interactius recolzats amb una pantalla de plasma per a la tecnologia Digital Signage. La ubicaci escollida estratgicament s en un dels punts de major afluncia turstica, tal com lentrada dels hotels. Aix es tracta de crear circuits tancats en rees geogrfiques on es troben els principals nuclis turstics de Mallorca. La possibilitat daccedir a segments de poblaci altament interessants per al producte o servei es multiplica al ser una manera fcil, efica i altament suggestiva de promocionar el qu es pretn. Un avantatge s la simplicitat de la infraestructura tecnolgica que es necessita, el dispositiu mitjanant el qual es visualitzaran els missatges ser una pantalla de plasma convencional, i un terminal de punt de venda instal.lat en un lloc de pas. Cada mdul est connectat a la xarxa ADSL mitjanant un servidor local a Internet. La connexi a la xarxa s imprescindible per a que el manteniment i actualitzaci dels continguts es puguin efectuar remotament. Lobjectiu principal daquest treball s estudiar la viabilitat de la implantaci de la xarxa, mitjanant la realitzaci dun estudi de mercat on sanalitzen els grups claus per a la implantaci: els hotelers, la indstria turstica i el Govern Balear. Sidentifiquen els beneficis que aportar al nou servei i les repercussions que tendr la seva instal.laci. Entre els resultats ms destacats daquest estudi cal remarcar lacceptaci que ha tengut la idea entre els hotelers entrevistats i la resposta positiva de la indstria turstica. Es reconeix: una millora de la imatge del sector, ls com a eina de promoci turstica pel Govern, i la contribuci a la sostenibilitat econmica pel fet que augmenta la competitivitat de les empreses i aix millora la qualitat del servei.

En lactual context de la societat de la informaci, les noves tecnologies de la comunicaci i, especficament, el fenomen dInternet, adquireixen una importncia rellevant en tots els sectors socials i fan replantejar la comunicaci de masses. Les caracterstiques que ofereixen els mitjans digitals (multimedialitat, hipertextualitat, interactivitat) comporten una nova forma destructurar i llegir la informaci. Aix, capaleres i periodistes shan dactualitzar en la producci de la informaci i en la seva transmissi, i lusuari ha daprendre noves formes de lectura per adaptar-se al nou paradigma comunicacional. Daltra banda, la societat del benestar en qu vivim reclama cada cop ms als mitjans de comunicaci generals i tamb especficament als digitals que parlin de temes de salut. Aquests mitjans esdevenen fonts principals daquest tipus dinformaci, desprs del metge, per a la gesti autnoma de la prpia salut. s a partir daquesta convergncia de mitjans digitals, periodisme i salut, de la necessitat dexplorar la situaci actual i del desig daportar coneixements per a la millora de la prctica professional del periodisme, que es desenvolupa el treball que es presenta en aquesta memria. El projecte que es presenta s una anlisi restrospectiva i descriptiva de les notcies de salut que es produeixen durant un mes als diaris digitals que publiquen en llengua catalana: El Peridico de Catalunya, lAvui, i LaMalla.net.
Digital social media: An interactive technology incorporated as a competitive advantage for business

In a more transparent and dynamic world, in which consumers trust other consumers more for advice and recommendations on products and services, the continuity of organizations appears to be associated with socialization, the sharing of interests and the interaction with the audience. This is associated with the incorporation of digital technologies to business, specifically the use of social media. Consequently, it is timely and interesting to explore the phenomenon of virtual socialization, although it is a littlestudied field and what is needed is an innovative and theoretical approach based upon theories of marketing and communication. Expertise in these areas is present in all organizations and their performance is important for appropriate development of them. This work is a qualitative analysis about the behavior, reactions and attitudes of individuals to organizations, in order to understand the social factors that contribute to sustainable competitive advantages of organizations which can support strategic and future actions. We conclude that relevant factors associated with the tacit knowledge of the organization, specifically to learning and social interaction of the organization and their knowledge of virtual communities. The higher the coexistence of factors, the more difficult is the replication and greater will be the hypothesis of sustainable competitive advantage.

The carrot leaf dehydration conditions in air circulation oven were optimized through response surface methodology (RSM) for minimizing the degradation of polyunsaturated fatty acids, particularly alpha-linolenic (LNA, 18:3n-3). The optimized leaf drying time and temperature were 43 h and 70 C, respectively. The fatty acids (FA) were investigated using gas chromatography equipped with a flame ionization detector and fused silica capillary column; FA were identified with standards and based on equivalent-chain-length. LNA and other FA were quantified against C21:0 internal standard. After dehydration, the amount of LNA, quantified in mg/100 g dry matter of dehydrated carrot leaves, were 984 mg.

Whether digital book will become the dominant design of books and be a widely accepted format for reading is a question that is currently asked by every e-publisher, publishing industry worker and many book consumers. This study is the first to holistically approach Christensens disruptive innovation theory for an instrument of measuring the phenomenon of the digital book. The disruptiveness of an innovation could be measured by its disruptive potential and the disruption process it passes. The empirical part of the thesis is designed so to investigate the digital books features as an innovation for disruptive potential and then the current digital book market, monitoring it for disruption processes. Proving that the digital book is a disruptive innovation may allow understanding its prospects and even help in making a pattern of the innovations market infiltration in the future. The framework created for answering the research question could also be used in a similar way to analyze other E-publishing products (e.g. e-newspapers, emagazines).

Konsistens och frndring i finlndsk etermediapolitik. Implementering av digital television och en jmfrelse med Kanada Avhandlingen handlar om hur det finlndska televisionssystemet frndrades i slutet av 1990-talet frn en nationell institution till ett dualistiskt system som prglas av stark marknadsorientering. Syftet med avhandlingen r att frst p vilket stt en s snabb frndring kunde ske och analysera de institutionella faktorerna bakom utvecklingen. P teoretisk niv diskuteras tesen om det nra sambandet mellan statliga politiska institutioner och rundradioverksamhetens institutioner. Avhandlingen bestr av tv fallstudier. Den frsta stter fokus p de frsta ren av den finlndska televisionens digitaliseringsprocess som startade med starka industriell-nationalistiska motiveringar. Analysen, som baserar p offentliga dokument, strcker sig framtill hsten 2001 d de digitala televisionssndningarna startade och regeringspropositionen om den nya kommunikationsmarknadslagen lmnades till riksdagen. Dessa policy-processer analyseras som en marknadisering av de traditionella styrningsprinciper och ider gllande finlndsk rundradioverksamheten. En jmfrelse mellan Finlands och Kanadas nationella rundradiopolitik gr att man kan koppla slutsatserna till den internationella utvecklingen. Jmfrelsen visar hur kommunikationspolitiska linjen i de tv lnderna har kommit att likna varandra trots att lndernas tv-system och deras styrordningar r mycket olika. Exemplet med Kanada visar att den srskilda teknologin inte r viktig utan snarare de kommersiella intressen som str bakom och som beslutsfattare grna dljer i en nationalistisk retorik. Studien visar att det r viktigt att beakta vilken tyngd man i politiken ger de tv sidor som rundradioverksamheten bestr av: sndningsteknologin och verksamheten som en speciell kulturform. Nationalstatens handlingsutrymme minskar inom fltet om mlet r att vara framgngsrik i konkurrensen i den nya internationella ekonomin. Enligt de nyliberalistiska principer som det politiska systemet verlag har tillgnat sig det r nskvrd men ocks helt inhemska institutionella traditioner och praxis som fljdes i den finlndska digitaliseringsprocessen frmjade utvecklingen som ledde till att nstan alla ursprungliga nationella syften fll snder.
