Multicomponent Reactions are defined as reactions between three or more reagents in a single reaction step in the same reaction vial, forming a product that includes the majority of atoms and structural characteristics of the reagents. Thus these reactions save time and energy. One of the ways to improve the yield and reaction time of a multicomponent reaction is to use different catalysts, an example of catalyst that shows great potential and has been studied in recent years is the molecular iodine is known to be a Lewis acid with high catalytic power. The functionalized piperidines, also known as tetrahydropyridines, are alkaloids that have pharmacological potential, this is due to the piperidine ring present in many natural product structures with muscarinic activity, nicotine, analgesic, antipsychotic, anti-proliferative, among others. In this paper we describe studies about on the application of molecular iodine (I2) in the multicomponent reaction between aniline derivatives, benzaldehyde and β-ketoester (methyl acetoacetate) for the synthesis of functionalized piperidines and the synthesis of a corresponding piperidone by acid hydrolysis. Data analysis allowed us to demonstrate the efficacy of molecular iodine in the synthesis of functionalized piperidines, obtaining results with yields 44-87% and short reaction time of 8 to 24 hours, and the efficacy of acid hydrolysis of enamine in the structure of the tetrahydropyridine derivative in a yield of 81%

Memória ambiental, cultural e turismo no vale histórico do Rio Paraíba do Sul: design de uma pesquisa

This text is aimed at disseminating cultural and environmental wealth of a region little known of major tour operators - which is strongly marked by historical traditions, in a bucolic rural still and by the hospitality of its residents. The Historic Valley of Rio Paraíba do Sul, although located in the Rio - Sao Paulo road lives in the shadow of the remarkable progress of the industrial cities in the main Valley. This paper presents results of research that deepened the knowledge of this region, with notable findings from the standpoint of culture and tourism, regional and national history. Isolated by considerable geographical barriers, this region has two aspects: the rebirth of nature after the decline of coffee plantations, with ecological sanctuaries that can now point toward environmental sustainability, and the formation of a culture with two historical times - refinement inherited from the barons coffee, paradoxically linked to the rustic countryside and modernity derived of its proximity to major centers. The results presented here are part of exploratory research, but were presented at different events, emphasizing the baroque character of practices derived from these two historical times and tourist potential related to the “cultura tropeira” and to hospitality that marks this countryside.

Análise das relações entre qualidade de vida e sobrecarga de cuidadoras de idosos de Assis, SP

This study aimed to draw the profile of informal caretakers in the city of Assis, SP, analyzing the relationships between quality of life (QL) and burden rates (BR) due to the care tasks. It is a Sample Study of the traverse type, in which 165 female informal caretakers, above 18 years old, residents in the urban area were interviewed through a structured questionnaire and standardized scales. We observed that the caretakers of our sample do not fell themselves too much burdened and, yet they present reasonable indexes of quality of life. However, differences in the rates of burden and quality of life were observed when considering social markers (social class, educational level, generation and parenthood), living or not with the person who is being cared. Besides, we found a significant negative correlation between BR and QL, that is, as higher the burden perception, as lower the QL evaluation. These inequalities urge for new studies and reflections in what concerns public policies in the sense of supporting and improving home care.

Inflammatory fibroid polyp (Vanek’s polyp): a case report and literature review

Inflammatory fibroid polyp (IFP) is a benign uncommon lesion (1%-4% of gastric benign lesions), originated from the submucosa of the gastrointestinal tract. Its origin is controversial and immunohistochemical studies of lesions have largely refuted the possible vascular, neural or smooth muscle origin. Recent studies suggest a neoplastic etiology due to a mutation, in some cases, in the alpha-type platelet-derived growth factor receptor gene (PDGFRa). Our objective is to report the case of a patient aged 70 years, with gastric IFP, comparing her immunohistochemical profile with those of other studies, and a brief review of the literature.

Dexamethasone is a synthetic glucocorticoid widely used to treat allergic and inflammatory processes. This drug is used in three main situations, are used to contain acute or chronic inflammatory processes, or like immunosuppressive drug's. In these cases the patient will receive high doses for a chronic period and, therefore, has a much greater chance of adverse side effects, such as hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidemia. Dexamethasone promotes deleterious effects on the arachidonic acid pathway, when administered in high doses, because it is a potent anti-inflammatory drug. We recently demonstrated that dexamethasone significantly reduces the protein expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in both skeletal muscle and heart, but the mechanisms involved remain unclear. Meanwhile, exercise has been shown to be effective against high blood pressure, diabetes and dyslipidemia, promoting, among other factors, the increase in VEGF and angiogenesis. One possible explanation for these effects would be the creation of new vessels mediated by inflammation, or by the stimulation of the formation of products of the metabolism of arachidonic acid (AA), such as prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and VEGF, by increasing the stimulation of the enzymes cyclooxygenase 1 and 2 (COX-1 and COX-2). Little is known about the preventive effects of training on the action of dexamethasone in the arachidonic acid pathway. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine whether aerobic exercise training, performed before and concomitant treatment with dexamethasone, was able to prevent the effects of the dexamethasone in the protein expression of COX-2 and VEGF. For this, we used young Wistar rats (n = 40) which were randomly divided into 4 groups: sedentary control (SC), sedentary and treated with dexamethasone (SD), trained control (TC) and trained and treated with dexamethasone (TD). Imunocastração e ractopamina na qualidade de lombos suínos processados com sal e tripolifosfato

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of immunocastration and supplementation with ractopamine in the quality of pork loin enhanced with salt and sodium tripolyphosphate. Treatments consisted of the sexual condition of the swine (females, physically castrated and immunocastrated males) and supplementation or not with ractopamine in finishing diet. The loins subjected to the enhancement with sodium tripolyphosphate and salt were evaluated as to physical-chemical, microbiological, and sensory parameters. There was no interaction between sexual condition and ractopamine on fresh pork loin characteristics. The addition of ractopamine in the diet increased the shear force in fresh loins. There was also no effect of sexual condition nor of ractopamine in purge loss and loin protein content. Loins of immunocastrated animals had less weight loss by cooking, whereas loins of animals non-supplemented with ractopamine showed higher moisture than those supplemented. Enhancement decreases the shear force of the cuts, which was lower in the immunocastrated animals without ractopamine supplementation. Immunocastration provided pork loins with high a* and L* values. Differences in the appearance and texture of pork loins, regardless of sexual condition and ractopamine, are not perceived by consumers, showing that enhancement standardizes the cuts.
