O sucesso das restaurações metálicas indiretas depende, dentre outros fatores, de uma união eficaz entre a estrutura metálica e o cimento dentário empregados. Sabe-se que os primers para metal atuam com comprovada eficácia na resistência adesiva dos cimentos resinosos às ligas nobres. Entretanto, pouco foi estudado sobre o efeito de tais materiais em ligas não nobres. O propósito deste estudo foi avaliar a eficácia de primers para metal na resistência ao cisalhamento da união entre cimentos resinosos e metais não nobres. Discos (9 mm de diâmetro e 3 mm de altura) foram fundidos em liga de NiCr (n=80) e em titânio comercialmente puro (Ti c.p.) (n=80) e foram incluídos em anel de PVC com resina acrílica quimicamente ativada. As superfícies dos discos foram regularizadas com lixas de carbeto de silício de granulação 320, 400 e 600 e jateadas com partículas de óxido de alumínio de 50 µm. Espécimes de cada metal foram divididos em quatro grupos (n=20). Uma matriz metálica bi-partida (5 mm de diâmetro interno e 2 mm de altura) foi posicionada na superfície do espécime. As áreas adesivas receberam um dos seguintes tratamentos: 1) Panavia F; 2) Alloy Primer e Panavia F; 3) Bistite DC e 4) Metaltite e Bistite DC. Para evitar a exposição dos cimentos à luz, estes foram espatulados e inseridos na matriz dentro de uma câmara de revelação radiográfica. Quarenta minutos após a confecção, os espécimes foram armazenados em água destilada a 37ºC por 24 horas e então termociclados (1.000 ciclos, 5ºC e 55ºC, 30 segundos cada banho). Após a termociclagem, os espécimes foram armazenados novamente nas mesmas condições descritas anteriormente por um período de 24 horas (n=10) ou de 6 meses (n=10) antes do ensaio de cisalhamento em uma máquina de ensaios mecânicos (Material Test System 810).

This experiment aim was to evaluate the contamination of the trace elements (TE) arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, copper, mercury, molybdenum, nickel, lead, selenium, and zinc considered in the CONAMA resolution 375 after 13 years long using sewage sludge (SS) as fertilizer in two soils: an Eutroferric Clayed Red Latosol (Rhodic Eutrudox - RE) and a Dystrophic Red Latosol (Typic Haplorthox - TH). Experiment in the field under maize cultivation had four treatments (0, 5, 10, and 20 t of SS ha(-1), dry weight), five replications and an experimental design in randomized blocks. The agrochemicals (dolomitic limestone, single superphosphate, and potassium chloride), SS, soils, and the certified reference materials were digested according to the USEPA 3051A method and the chemical elements were quantified by ICP OES. The TE contents found in the agrochemicals used should not cause immediate environmental impact. The higher TE values were found in the RE and they did not reach the agricultural (more stringent) Investigation Level (IL) yet, according to 420 CONAMA resolution. Persisting the actual SS fertilization amount applied in the soil and the TE concentration in the SS is foreseen that Ba, Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, and Zn will be the first elements to reach the IL in the RE.

This project was originated from the national aircraft industry requirements to reduce the use of coated materials with electroplated chromium or cadmium that produce waste, which is harmful to health or the environment. The selected material is a Custom 465 stainless steel used in the aeronautical field due to its high mechanical strength. Considering the load sustained by the wheel axis of the landing gear, the Custom 465 was tested in axial fatigue. The objective is to compare the behavior of the Custom 465 stainless steel with plated AISI 4340 steel coated with cadmium. Fractographic analysis was conducted using scanning electron microscopy. X-ray diffraction method was used to determine the residual stress field induced by shot peening.

The tanning wastes are characterized to be significant sources of pollution in the hydrosphere when non adjusted or disposed adequated form. That happens because this industry type uses the chromium to tan hides, and this element is present in discharges concentrations in final wastes, characterizing this waste type as dangerous, according to the Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas, através da Norma Brasileira 10.004 de 2004. Due to this, the research proposes a form to reduction chromium of the tanning wastes through the process of adsorption. For that were used mining-wastes of Corumbataí Formation clays, material commonly used in the production of ceramic products in Rio Claro (SP). They were accomplished laboratory essays that involved the preparation of different clays pulps and subsequent mixture of these with the tanning wastes, maintaining them under different mixing times and adsorption contacts. After the separation of the mixtures, the leached were chemically analyzed and it was seen the efficiency of chromium reduction and your relationship with the variation of different times of contact clays/wastes and different grain sizes used in the pulps preparation.

Contamination of rivers and lakes, waste disposed by infiltration into the soil as fertilizer, for example, has been highlighted around the world, since such compounds can contain toxic elements, causing changes in aquatic and/or terrestrial ecosystem. Due to the possible presence of these elements in these wastes, it is possible assess damage to organisms exposed through breaks in genetic material and mutations. In this sense, this work aimed at exploring the cytotoxic, mutagenic and genotoxic vinasse pontential, residue used as fertilizer, from the processing of sugar cane into alcohol, using fish (Oreochromis niloticus - Cichlidae) as a test organism. The individuals were exposed to different dilutions of vinasse in the water and later carried out analysis of their erythrocytes using the micronucleus test and nuclear abnormalities associated and the comet assay. In the first bioassay, tilapia exhibited 5% and 10% vinasse concentrations died after 48h. The number of micronucleated erythrocytes was statistically significant for the 1% vinasse concentration and also for nuclear abnormalities such as broken-egg and nuclear bud, when compared with negative and positive controls; were also significant lobed type erythrocytes, when compared to the negative control. The test results of the comet assay were not significant for 1% vinasse when compared to the negative control, due to the high rate of comets with damage control, which is unusual. The same was observed for changes as notched and blebbed type. In the second chemical analyzes conducted, the detection of heavy metals in the vinasse sample, charged only the presence of copper and chromium, the latter with a concentration 89 times higher than in the first test. The steel type AISI 4130 (ultra-high strength steel) is an alloy of low carbon and its main alloying elements are chromium and molybdenum, which improves the toughness of the weld metal. It has numerous applications, especially where the need for high mechanical strength. It is widely used in equipment used by the aviation industry, such as cradle-tomotor, and this is the motivation for this study. Cots are of fundamental importance, because the engine supports and maintains balance in the fixed landing gear. This equipment is subjected to intense loading cycles, whose fractures caused by fatigue are constantly observed. Will be determined the effects caused by re-welding the structure of aeronautical equipment, and will also study the microstructure of the metal without welding. The studies will be done on materials used in aircraft, which was given to study. The results provide knowledge of microstructure to evaluate any type of fracture that maybe caused by fatigue. Fatigue is a major cause of aircraft accidents and incidents occurred, which makes the study of the microstructure of the metal, weld and re-solder the knowledge essential to the life of the material. The prevention and control of the process of fatigue in aircraft are critical, since the components are subjected to greater responsibility cyclic loading

The purpose of this study was to evaluate in vitro the antimicrobial activity of intracanal medications against Candida albicans, Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli present in root canals. It was used 24 single root human teeths, contaminated for 28 days and prepared with physiological saline solution as irrigation solution. The teeth were divided into 2 groups according to the intracanal medication used: 1) 2% gel chlorhexidine, 2) sterile and pyrogen free physiological saline solution. Samples were taken of the root canals immediately after instrumentation, 7 days after intracanal medication and 7 days after removal of intracanal medication. For all samples the antimicrobial activity was performed by plating method. All results were submitted to Mann-Whitney and Dunn's test with significance of 5%. There was significant reduction of microorganisms after instrumentation and the intracanal medication of 2% gel chlorhexidine completely eliminated C. albicans and E. coli, and significantly reduced E. faecalis. It was concluded that 2% gel chlorhexidine as intracanal medication for 7 days was effective on microorganisms
