This work deals in a general way, the history and advantages of steel buildings, as well as its increasing usage in Brazil in the last century. This work also generally describes some types and its uses of metal frame. It also demonstrates the use of the NBR 8800: 2008 standard and its calculation methods through the scale out materials regulated in Brazil for an industrial warehouse project small and simple portico metal frame. Given that the construction requirements include a locational influence following the normative indications of the NBR 6123, for the winding scale out, since this effect combined with the permanent loads must be seriously evaluated due to the shape type effort about acting simultaneous axial force and bending moments obeying the limitations applied to the structure according to NBR 8800. As it has been explained the calculations that ensures mechanical stability and suggesting an analysis of the efficiency of the used materials

Amphibian populations worldwide have been suffering declines generated by habitat degradation, loss, fragmentation and habitat split. With habitat loss and fragmentation in the landscape comes habitat split, which is the separation between the adult anuran habitat and breeding sites, forcing individuals to move through matrix during breeding seasons. Thus, habitat split increases the chance of extinction of amphibians with aquatic larval development and acts as a filter in the selection of species having great influence on species richness and community structure. The use of functional diversity allows us to consider the identity and characteristics of each species to understand the effects of fragmentation processes. The objective of this study was to estimate the effects of habitat split, as well as habitat loss in the landscape, on amphibians functional diversity (FD) and species richness (S). We selected 26 landscapes from a database with anuran surveys of Brazilian Atlantic Forest. For each landscape we calculated DF, S and landscape metrics at multiple scales. To calculate the DF we considered traits that influenced species use and persistence in the landscape. We refined maps of forest remnants and water bodies for metrics calculation. To relate DF and S (response variables) to landscape variables (explanatory variables), we used a model selection approach, fitting generalized linear models (GLMS) and making your selection with AICc. We compared the effect of model absence and models with habitat split, habitat amount and habitat connectivity effects, as well as their interaction. The most plausible models for S were the sum and interaction between habitat split in 7.5 km scale. For anurans with terrestrial development, habitat amount was the only plausible explanatory variable, in the 5 km scale. In this paper are discussed the main project stages of an atmospheric storage tank with floating roof. It emphasizes the calculations of the bottom, the shell and the floating roof, discussing its stages and conditions, based on the technical standards of the project. The storage tanks are static equipment working under low pressure and has an essential importance for the operation of a process plant. This paper has the purpose of obtaining the dimensions and materials of each component of the tank through the calculations and prove them with results obtained by numerical simulation by finite elements with the help of Autodesk Inventor software, consolidating the project

The development of nanostructured materials have aroused great interest of the industries all over the country, since they enable the development of devices that can be used as gate insulators on silicon transistors, electrochromic devices, solid electrolyte oxygen sensors and as a photoluminescent materials . In this project, it is proposed to investigate the optical properties of CeO2 modified with rare earth Er processed in hydrothermal-microwave. The synthesis of one-dimensional nanostructures (1D) was measured from dilute aqueous solutions of acids and salts of starting reagents in the presence of chemical basis, after these aqueous solutions were processed on hydrothermal-microwave to particle growth. The particles obtained after processing were characterized by X-ray Diffraction, Rietveld Analysis and Raman Spectroscopy. The particle morphology was observed by scanning electron microscopy with field emission gun. The synthesis of 1D nanostructures are evaluated for different surfactants and starting precursors (ceria different salts), pH, temperature and pressure which can modify the morphology of the nanostructures. Combining laboratory experiments and theoretical calculations it was desired to understand the organization of the nanoparticles and their resulting structure. Strict control of chemical homogeneity, crystal structure, microstructure and interaction of the CeO2 cluster with different surfactants using the Hartree-Fock method, was intended to obtain properties compatible with their use in catalysts and optical devices. The use of mineralizer agent KOH and 8 minutes of processing time synthesis conditions were chosen to evaluate the effect of Er dopant. It has been proved that this doping with rare earth increases the photoluminescent properties of the compound obtained without change the structural and morphological propreties of ceria

This paper purpose is to analyze one of the main problems faced by cold rolling industry of the current time, the mechanical vibration. Factors such as strips with high velocity in order to increase the productivity and thickness becoming thinner and thinner cause the vibrations to be present at all times during rolling. These market requirements also drive the industry for technology development and thus bring the challenges that the operation of a new modern equipment and more powerful. The initial purpose is to analyze the forces that cause vibration in a rolling mill type four high with two stands, where is desirable to identify the origins of these vibrational forces to make possible dismiss them or at least control its intensity, in order to prevent damage in the rolling mill and ensure product quality to the customer. For it, will be used instruments to record and store the vibrations that occur during the lamination process. With this data will be able to analyze the characteristics of the vibrations and act at your elimination. At the end of the work is expected to demonstrate how important the critical view of the engineer in the analysis of graphics combined with the calculations of the natural vibration frequency and engagement of key parts of the laminator. With these two tools at hand, will be possible to increase the productivity of the rolling mill and act preventively in maintenance, thereby reducing your downtime and increasing its performance and efficiency

The main goal of this work is to investigate the effects of a nonlinear cubic term inserted in the Schrödinger equation for one-dimensional potentials studied in Quantum Mechanics textbooks. Being the main tool the numerical analysis in a large number of works, the analysis of this effect by this term in the potential itself, in order to work with an analytical solution, can be considered something new. For the harmonic oscillator potential, the analysis was made from a numerical method, comparing the result with the known results in the literature. In the case of the infinite well potential and the step potential, hoping to work with an analytical solution, by construction we started with the known wavefunction for the linear case noting the effects in the other physical quantities. The coupling of the physical quantities involved in this work has yielded, besides many complications in the calculations, a series of conditions on the existence and validity of the solutions in regard to the system possible configurations

This study aims to analyze the capacity of a helical coil heat exchanger to reach the requested heat transfer rates by a sodium hypochlorite production process. This heat exchanger was installed in an experimental way in order to reuse a source of low-temperatures water in such a way to become a more economical alternative than the existing cooling tower. Firstly, the concepts related to the theory of heat transfer applicable to the case were introduced. Then, the mapping of the main information about the production process and the technical specification of the current cooling system equipment's was realized. Using the dimensions of the heat exchanger installed today as reference, the calculations for determining the ideal length of the coil to different flows of hot fluid were performed. Finally, it was concluded that the heat exchanger currently employed does not provide heat transfer rates required for the maximum flow rate value supported by the cooling tower

Objective. To describe individual attitudes, knowledge, and behavior regarding salt intake, its dietary sources, and current food-labeling practices related to salt and sodium in five sentinel countries of the Americas. Methods. A convenience sample of 1 992 adults (>= 18 years old) from Argentina, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, and Ecuador (approximately 400 from each country) was obtained between September 2010 and February 2011. Data collection was conducted in shopping malls or major commercial areas using a questionnaire containing 33 questions. Descriptive estimates are presented for the total sample and stratified by country and sociodemographic characteristics of the studied population. Results. Almost 90% of participants associated excess intake of salt with the occurrence of adverse health conditions, more than 60% indicated they were trying to reduce their current intake of salt, and more than 30% believed reducing dietary salt to be of high importance. Only 26% of participants claimed to know the existence of a recommended maximum value of salt or sodium intake and 47% of them stated they knew the content of salt in food items. More than 80% of participants said that they would like food labeling to indicate high, medium, and low levels of salt or sodium and would like to see a clear warning label on packages of foods high in salt. Conclusions. Additional effort is required to increase consumers' knowledge about the existence of a maximum limit for intake and to improve their capacity to accurately monitor and reduce their personal salt consumption.

Este artigo reavalia o "modelo simplificado" da Teoria Geral de Keynes elaborado por James Meade e procura complementar alguns dos argumentos teóricos que Meade deixou apenas indicados. O artigo também responde às solicitações de Frisch a Meade, quanto à explicação do significado de estabilidade e à explicitação dos pressupostos que garantem suas conclusões. Além disso, apresenta alguns dos cálculos não desenvolvidos por Meade, e, quando necessário, suas devidas correções.

Neste artigo descreve-se uma pesquisa na qual se desenvolveu um analisador de desfibriladores e cardioversores e se executou sua avaliação metrológica, sendo apresentados os resultados obtidos. A avaliação das incertezas de medição do analisador foi realizada de acordo com as determinações da versão brasileira do EA-4/02 - Expressão da Incerteza de Medição de Calibração publicado pelo INMETRO. Os resultados obtidos mostraram-se adequados às exigências de exatidão determinadas pelas normas ANSI/AAMI DF2 (American..., 1996) e ANSI/AAMI DF80 (American..., 2003), tendo apresentado uma incerteza expandida relativa para as medições de energia igual a 1,0% no pior caso. Nesta pesquisa foi também realizada uma análise da incerteza definicional do processo de calibração utilizado e avaliou-se a capacidade do processo. Para os cálculos da capacidade do processo, foi determinado um erro máximo para as medições de energia igual a 5% ou 1,0 J, o que for maior. Este erro máximo é igual a 1/3 do erro máximo admissível para a energia entregue pelos desfibriladores, em outras palavras, é igual ao erro máximo admissível para um instrumento de medição pela Norma ANSI/AAMI DF2 (American..., 1996). Os resultados obtidos para a capacidade do procedimento de calibração mostraram-se adequados para as especificações de um analisador de desfibriladores e cardioversores, tendo obtido como resultado, no pior caso, um índice de capacidade Cm igual a 2,87, que é bem superior, portanto, a 1,0, sendo este o limite mínimo para que o procedimento seja considerado capaz de calibrar a medição de energia sem atribuir uma incerteza definicional demasiadamente grande.

INTRODUÇÃO: As modificações da frequência cardíaca (FC) durante a transição repouso-exercício podem ser caracterizadas por meio da aplicação de cálculos matemáticos simples, como: deltas 0-10 e 0-30s para inferir sobre o sistema nervoso parassimpático, e delta e regressão linear aplicados no intervalo 60-240s para inferir sobre o sistema nervoso simpático. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi testar a hipótese de que indivíduos jovens e de meia-idade apresentam diferentes respostas da FC em exercício de intensidade moderada e intensa, com diferentes cálculos matemáticos. MÉTODOS: Homens aparentemente saudáveis, sendo sete de meia-idade e 10 jovens, foram submetidos a testes de carga constante de intensidade moderada e intensa. Foram calculados os deltas da FC nos períodos de 0-10s, 0-30s e 60-240s e a regressão linear simples no período de 60 a 240s. Os parâmetros obtidos na análise de regressão linear simples foram: intercepto e inclinação angular. Utilizou-se o teste Shapiro-Wilk para verificar a distribuição dos dados e o teste t não pareado para comparação entre os grupos. O nível de significância estatística considerado foi 5%. RESULTADOS: O valor do intercepto e do delta 0-10s foi menor no grupo meia-idade nas duas cargas e a inclinação do ângular foi menor no grupo meia-idade no exercício moderado. CONCLUSÃO: Os indivíduos jovens apresentam retirada vagal de maior magnitude no estágio inicial da resposta da FC durante exercício dinâmico em carga constante nas intensidades analisadas e maior velocidade de ajuste da resposta simpática em exercícios moderados.

Este trabalho apresenta dois procedimentos para calcular o número de anos de escolaridade fornecidos pelo sistema educacional brasileiro. Um dos procedimentos é baseado nas taxas de conclusão dos ensinos fundamental, médio e superior. Tal procedimento, que depende do conhecimento da população nas várias faixas etárias e do número de concluintes de cada um dos níveis educacionais, foi utilizado para as estimativas no período posterior a 1962. O outro procedimento é baseado no número de anos de estudo declarado pela população adulta, tal como divulgado pelo Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), e foi utilizado para estimar o número de anos fornecidos pelo sistema educacional em períodos mais remotos. O bom acordo entre os resultados obtidos com os dois métodos no período entre 1962 e 1999 demonstra que eles são consistentes. A combinação dos dois procedimentos fornece resultados para um período de cerca de 90 anos, iniciando-se em meados da década de 1920. As incertezas dos resultados, estimadas a partir tanto das flutuações dos dados utilizados, quanto das aproximações numéricas que foram feitas, são da ordem de 3%. Alguns detalhes dos cálculos são apresentados ao final, nos apêndices. As variações no número de anos de escolaridade, quando maiores do que as incertezas estimadas, estão associadas a eventos políticos, sociais ou educacionais que marcaram o período analisado.

Neste artigo, abordo o capítulo VII de "A Origem das Espécies" (Instinto), no qual Charles Darwin efetua uma aplicação da teoria da evolução por seleção natural ao domínio dos instintos, inaugurando a análise biológica do comportamento. Darwin pretendeu mostrar a possibilidade de uma evolução gradual no caso de exemplos complexos como o parasitismo de ninhada do cuco, o hábito escravagista de formigas e a construção das células do favo de abelhas melíferas. Atribuiu ao comportamento um caráter funcional, comparou espécies próximas para reconstituir etapas evolucionárias, colocou os cálculos de custo e benefício e de otimização subjacentes à seleção do comportamento, indicou aspectos de competição entre espécies e de manipulação de umas por outras, e utilizou o pensamento da seleção de grupo para dar conta da presença de indivíduos estéreis em insetos eusociais. Mais do que soluções e resultados, Darwin traz, no capítulo Instinto, argumentos e uma proposta paradigmática para a análise dos comportamentos típicos da espécie, verdadeiro ponto de partida para as abordagens atuais da etologia e da ecologia comportamental.
