Dynamic optimization of track components to minimize rail corrugation

In this paper, the influence on corrugation of the most significant track parameters has been examined. After this parametric study, the optimization of the track parameters to minimize the undulatory wear growth has been achieved. Finally, the influence of the dispersion of the track and contact parameters on corrugation growth has been studied. A method has been developed to obtain an optimal solution of the track parameters which minimizes corrugation growth, thus ensuring that this solution remains optimum despite dispersion of track parameters and wheel-rail contact uncertainties. This work is based on the computer application RACING (RAil Corrugation INitiation and Growth) which has been developed by the authors to predict rail corrugation features.

三峡永久船闸高边坡开挖三维离散元数值模拟

采用面-面接触的三维离散元刚性块体模型，从实测节理面中取出其中的三组，按照其倾向、倾角和节理间距将三峡永久船闸未开挖的区域划分为10~5个离散单元，通过施加力边界条件，给出了与实测初始地应力场接近的数值模拟结果；然后，分4步模拟了永久船闸的开挖过程。计算结果表明：开挖过程会引起节理面出现张开趋势，个别岩体还会沿着节理面滑移。岩体位移的不对称现象较为自然地说明了由节理引起的岩体各向异性特征。

Distribución geográfica de los peces de aguas continentales de la República Argentina.

Este libro pretende reunir la información disponible sobre la distribución geográfica precisa de los peces continentales del país. Hasta el momento esta información se encontraba dispersa en varios cientos de publicaciones, muchas de ellas díficiles de encontrar por ser antiguas, estar publicadas principalmente en revistas extranjeras que se reciben en unas pocas -o a veces ninguna- biblioteca o estar en publicaciones de difusión restringida. A raíz de lo anterior, esta tarea sólo pudo ser posible gracias a la colaboración de los autores de los trabajos recopilados, y en particular a la ayuda de la cátedra de Ictiología de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata que posee una gran mayoría de la bibliografía utilizada. Es mi intención continuar trabajando en la actualización permanentemente de esta base de datos. Population response of triploid grass carp to declining levels of hydrilla in the Santee Cooper Reservoirs, South Carolina

Approximately 768,500 triploid grass carp ( Ctenopharyngodon idella Valenciennes) were stocked into the Santee Cooper reservoirs, South Carolina between 1989 and 1996 to control hydrilla ( Hydrilla verticillata (L.f.) Royle). Hydrilla coverage was reduced from a high of 17,272 ha during 1994 to a few ha by 1998. During 1997, 1998 and 1999, at least 98 triploid grass carp were collected yearly for population monitoring. Estimates of age, growth, and mortality, as well as population models, were used in the study to monitor triploid grass carp and predict population trends. Condition declined from that measured during a previous study in 1994. The annual mortality rate was estimated at 28% in 1997, 32% in 1998 and 39% in 1999; however, only the 1999 mortality rate was significantly different. Few (2 out of 98) of the triploid grass carp collected during 1999 were older than age 9. We expect increased mortality due to an aging population and sparse hydrilla coverage. Egg production, spawning biomass and factors influencing recruitment of striped bass in the Potomac River and the upper Chesapeake Bay

Ichthyoplankton surveys in the Potomac River and Upper Chesapeake Bay were carried out in 1989 to estimate striped bass egg productions, age specific spawning biomasses of adult females, cohort-specific larval growth and mortality rates, and hatch dates of 8.0 mm larvae survivors. Possible consequences to recruitment of environmental factors were examined in 1989 and for data collected in 1987-1988. Distribution of fishing effort and resulting tuna catches from the Eastern Tropical Pacific by quarters of the year, 1951-1958

ENGLISH: This is a data report based on information collected from the logbooks of baitboats and purse-seiners engaged in the fishery for yellowfin (Neothunnus macropterus) and skipjack (Katsulvonus pelamis) tuna in the Eastern Tropical Pacific Ocean from 1951 through 1958. The detailed analysis of these data appears in other research bulletins, some already published and others in preparation. SPANISH: Este es un informe basado en los datos contenidos en la información recogida de los registros de bitácora de los barcos de carnada y rederos que se dedicaron a la pesca de atún aleta amarilla (Neothunnus macropterus) y barrilete (Katsuwonus pelamis) en el Océano Pacífico Oriental Tropical de 1951 a 1958.
