Aquest és el llibre més complet que hi ha sobre la pedra de Santa Tecla i el llisós, dos materials procedents de Tarragona i molt utilitzats en època romana. Els autors, arqueòlegs i geòlegs, caracteritzen aquestes dues varietats i presenten el panorama de les seves aplicacions, i també donen pautes per identificar-les i diferenciar-les d’altres pedres que s’hi podrien confondre, com la “portasanta” o la pedra de Buixcarró.

The ager tarraconensis project (right side of river Francoli) (PAT): the application of geophysical survey to identify rural Roman settlement typologies

The methodology of the ager Tarraconensis project also included geophysical surveys aiming to distinguish different categories of rural settlements. Two geophysical techniques (resistivity and magnetometry) were combined to reveal traces of unearth structures from a selection of sites identified from the field survey. Results of geophysical surveys of these seven sites as well as conclusions obtained from this approach are discussed here.

Iowa Drainage Law Manual, TR-497, 2005

The relationship between Iowa’s roads and drainage developed when rural roads were originally constructed. The land parallel to roadways was excavated to create road embankments. The resulting ditches provided an outlet for shallow tiles to drain nearby fields for farming. Iowa’s climate and terrain are nearly ideal for farming, and more than 90 percent of the land suits the purpose. Much of the land, however, needs to be artificially drained to achieve maximum productivity. Most of this drainage has been accomplished with an extensive network of levees, open ditches, and underground tiles. The U.S. Census Bureau estimated that as early as 1920 approximately nine million acres of Iowa farm land had been artificially drained or needed to be. Couple this drainage system with Iowa’s extensive surface transportation system—approximately 100,000 miles of roads and streets, 90,000 on local systems— and potential for conflicts will naturally arise. This is particularly true with urban expansion resulting in residential and commercial development of rural land. This manual contains summaries of and references to the laws most relevant to drainage in Iowa. It also includes frequently asked questions about transportation agencies’ responsibilities related to drainage. Typical policies and agreement forms used by agencies to address drainage issues are illustrated and a glossary of common terms is included.

The ambiguous disruption of gender-role expectations in the law and the lady name

The main purpose of this research project is to analyse the major female figures in Wilkie Collins' work of fiction The Law and the Lady, in relation to the times in which the novel was produced and the situation of women in the Victorian era. After taking into account the major events of the life of the author, as well as the sociohistorical conditions of the Victorian period, I try to reach conclusions about whether the author challenges gender-role expectations, presenting the readers with a new form of femininity, of if, on the contrary, he preserves and maintains a conservative, traditional perspective of femininity and female conventions proper to the established parameters of the times in which he lived. Issu de la fin du Moyen Âge, le Roman de Perceforest est le plus long texte que le Moyen Âge nous ait laissé. Il entend décrire la vie des ancêtres préchrétiens d'Arthur et de ses chevaliers en les faisant descendre d'Alexandre le Grand. Au fil de son récit, l'auteur met en place une véritable poétique de la reprise, tant externe qu'interne. Il multiplie les références à des textes préexistants issus de différentes matières et va même jusqu'à en intégrer des morceaux entiers. Il reprend par ailleurs des parties de sa propre oeuvre, n'hésitant pas à reproduire des schémas, voire des séquences narratives précises. Cette esthétique répétitive a plusieurs conséquences, tant sur l'appartenance générique du texte, sur sa construction, que sur sa réception par le lecteur. Elle est au coeur de notre étude. Nous nous intéressons plus spécifiquement à un phénomène particulier de reprise qui montre l'intégration d'une séquence préexistante dans un contexte distinct de son apparition d'origine et que nous qualifions d'emprunt. Notre travail s'organise autour d'un examen successif des différents types d'emprunts qui apparaissent au sein du texte, tant intertextuels qu'intratextuels. À terme, c'est la cohérence et l'individualité du Perceforest, ainsi que la conception de l'écriture qui anime son auteur que nous mettons en avant, tout en proposant des jalons pour une théorie générale de l'emprunt. - The Roman de Perceforest, the longest known text from the Middle Ages, aims to describe the life of Arthur's pre-christian ancestors and knights, presenting them as descendants of Alexander the Great. Along the storytelling, a genuine poetics of external and internal repetition takes place: the Perceforest s authors multiply the references to previous texts belonging to several materials, integrating sometimes entire parts of other texts. Furthermore the narrative reproduces its own patterns and particular sequences in different places of the text. Throughout this research, we consider the influence of such repetition aesthetics on the literary genre definition, on its construction as well as on the reader's reception. In this dissertation, we explore a specific category of repetitions where pre-existing sequences are embedded in a narrative context that differs from the original context of occurrence, which we called emprunt (s). Reviewing the species of inter- and intra-textual recurrences occurring within the text, we reveal some overlooked aspects of the consistency, the specificity of the Perceforest and its author's idea of writing, striving to groundwork on general theory of «emprunts» that shall thereby be laid.

The Law of Lending Discrimination, June 2010

The purpose of this article is two-fold. First, it provides an overview of the types of lending discrimination, discusses what laws apply to lending discrimination, and explains how to establish a prima facie case and pretext. This discussion will borrow concepts and case law from the areas of employment discrimination and the related issue of rental discrimination. Each of these areas share similar required elements as well as the need to establish pre-text. Second, this article provides an overview of predatory lending practices, applicable law, and potential remedies.

Water planning efforts typically identify problems and needs. But simply calling attention to issues is usually not enough to spur action; the end result of many well-intentioned planning efforts is a report that ends up gathering dust on a shelf. Vague recommendations like “Water conservation measures should be implemented” usually accomplish little by themselves as they don’t assign responsibility to anyone. Success is more likely when an implementation strategy — who can and should do what — is developed as part of the planning process. The more detailed and specific the implementation strategy, the greater the chance that something will actually be done.
