There is an increased interest in using broadcast disks to support mobile access to real-time databases. However, previous work has only considered the design of real-time immutable broadcast disks, the contents of which do not change over time. This paper considers the design of programs for real-time mutable broadcast disks - broadcast disks whose contents are occasionally updated. Recent scheduling-theoretic results relating to pinwheel scheduling and pfair scheduling are used to design algorithms for the efficient generation of real-time mutable broadcast disk programs.

This paper describes a Framework for e-Learning and presents the findings of a study investigating whether the use of Blended Learning can fulfill or at least accommodate some of the human requirements presently neglected by current e-Learning systems. This study evaluates the in-house system: Teachmat, and discusses how the use of Blended Learning has become increasingly prevalent as a result of its enhancement and expansion, its relationship to the human and pedagogical issues, and both the positive and negative implications of this reality.

The Web's link structure (termed the Web Graph) is a richly connected set of Web pages. Current applications use this graph for indexing and information retrieval purposes. In contrast the relationship between Web Graph and application is reversed by letting the structure of the Web Graph influence the behaviour of an application. Presents a novel Web crawling agent, AlienBot, the output of which is orthogonally coupled to the enemy generation strategy of a computer game. The Web Graph guides AlienBot, causing it to generate a stochastic process. Shows the effectiveness of such unorthodox coupling to both the playability of the game and the heuristics of the Web crawler. In addition, presents the results of the sample of Web pages collected by the crawling process. In particular, shows: how AlienBot was able to identify the power law inherent in the link structure of the Web; that 61.74 per cent of Web pages use some form of scripting technology; that the size of the Web can be estimated at just over 5.2 billion pages; and that less than 7 per cent of Web pages fully comply with some variant of (X)HTML.

Actor Network Theory (ANT) is explored as a useful tool in researching the intersection of English teaching and Information Communication Technologies (ICTs), to understand the complex interaction of influences, both human and non-human, that combine to achieve a particular outcome, in this case the uptake of ICTs by English teachers in an Australian school. What this means is that alongside interviewing the teachers, administrators and technical support people, recognition is given to the influence of inanimate objects such as computers, bluestone walls and curriculum documents. This constructs a more complex picture of the change process accounting both for the invisible ideology of teacher beliefs as well as the technical capacity and incapacity of machines, buildings and policies. At the heart of ANT lies the metaphor of the heterogeneous network which is made up of diverse, not simply human, materials. Often these networks become consolidated as single point actors e.g. the English curriculum, the computer laboratory, the library, which are then seen as fixed entities rather than an amalgamation of parts prone to change. ANT allows for the constituent parts to be investigated, and following Bruno Latour's Aramis, (1996) this can be done creatively by literally giving voice to inanimate objects such as computers.

Human associated delay-tolerant networks (HDTNs) are new networks for DTNs, where mobile devices are associated with humans and demonstrate social related communication characteristics. As most of recent works use real social trace files to study the date forwarding in HDTNs, the privacy protection becomes a serious issue. Traditional privacy protections need to keep the attributes semantics, such as data mining and information retrieval. However, in HDTNs, it is not necessary to keep these meaningful semantics. In this paper, instead, we propose to anonymize the original data by coding to preserve individual's privacy and apply Privacy Protected Data Forwarding (PPDF) model to select the top N nodes to perform the multicast. We use both MIT Reality and Infocom 06 datasets, which are human associated mobile network trace file, to simulate our model. The results of our simulations show that this method can achieve a high data forwarding performance while protect the nodes' privacy as well.
