Quantitative branch determination in polyolefins by solid- and melt-state 13C NMR has been investigated. Both methods were optimised toward sensitivity per unit time. While solid-state NMR was shown to give quick albeit only qualitative results, melt-state NMR allowed highly time efficient accurate branch quantification. Comparison of spectra obtained using spectrometers operating at 300, 500 and 700 MHz 1H Larmor frequency, with 4 and 7~mm MAS probeheads, showed that the best sensitivity was achieved at 500 MHz using a 7 mm 13C-1H optimised high temperature probehead. For materials available in large quantities, static melt-state NMR, using large diameter detection coils and high coil filling at 300 MHz, was shown to produce comparable results to melt-state MAS measurements in less time. While the use of J-coupling mediated polarisation transfer techniques was shown to be possible, direct polarisation via single-pulse excitation proved to be more suitable for branch quantification in the melt-state. Artificial line broadening, introduced by FID truncation, was able to be reduced by the use of π pulse-train heteronuclear dipolar decoupling. This decoupling method, when combined with an extended duty-cycle, allowed for significant improvement in resolution. Standard setup, processing and analysis techniques were developed to minimise systematic errors contributing to the measured branch contents. The final optimised melt-state MAS NMR method was shown to allow time efficient quantification of comonomer content and distribution in both polyethylene- and polypropylene-co-α-olefins. The sensitivity of the technique was demonstrated by quantifying branch concentrations of 8 branches per 100,000 CH2 for an industrial ‘linear’ polyethylene in only 13 hours. Even lower degrees of 3–8 long-chain branches per 100,000 carbons were able to be estimated in just 24 hours for a series of γ-irradiated polypropylene homopolymers.

Background: The number of available structures of large multi-protein assemblies is quite small. Such structures provide phenomenal insights on the organization, mechanism of formation and functional properties of the assembly. Hence detailed analysis of such structures is highly rewarding. However, the common problem in such analyses is the low resolution of these structures. In the recent times a number of attempts that combine low resolution cryo-EM data with higher resolution structures determined using X-ray analysis or NMR or generated using comparative modeling have been reported. Even in such attempts the best result one arrives at is the very course idea about the assembly structure in terms of trace of the C alpha atoms which are modeled with modest accuracy. Methodology/Principal Findings: In this paper first we present an objective approach to identify potentially solvent exposed and buried residues solely from the position of C alpha atoms and amino acid sequence using residue type-dependent thresholds for accessible surface areas of C alpha. We extend the method further to recognize potential protein-protein interface residues. Conclusion/Significance: Our approach to identify buried and exposed residues solely from the positions of C alpha atoms resulted in an accuracy of 84%, sensitivity of 83-89% and specificity of 67-94% while recognition of interfacial residues corresponded to an accuracy of 94%, sensitivity of 70-96% and specificity of 58-94%. Interestingly, detailed analysis of cases of mismatch between recognition of interface residues from C alpha positions and all-atom models suggested that, recognition of interfacial residues using C alpha atoms only correspond better with intuitive notion of what is an interfacial residue. Our method should be useful in the objective analysis of structures of protein assemblies when positions of only C alpha positions are available as, for example, in the cases of integration of cryo-EM data and high resolution structures of the components of the assembly.

本文详细分析了聚丁二烯分子链的序列结构,以聚丁二烯的(13)C-NMR波谱测试为依据,划分聚丁二烯分子链为三种序列、十七类脂碳碳核。在此基础上发现并论证了T_4碳核的存在,同时在聚丁二烯的~(13)C-NMR谱图上确认了与之对应的共振吸收峰-T_4峰。通过处理谱峰化学位移数据,得到一组计算聚丁二烯~(13)C-NMR谱图脂碳部分各谱峰化学位移的经验参数。应用这一组参数于聚丁二烯的~(13)C-NMR谱图(脂碳部分),各谱峰化学位移的计算值和实验值有良好的一致性。但是,与聚丁二烯分子链的1,2-序列两端的四类碳核:C_4、T_4、V_2和V_8相对应之谱峰的化学位移,其实验值一致地大于计算值而趋向低场方面,为深入研究聚丁二烯的链结构提供了有价值的情报。本文还讨论了对于4'峰和8'峰的归属,并对定量表征聚丁二烯分子链的序列结构进行了初步尝试。

采用Cr/Al催化体系,成功地合成了全同1,2-聚丁二烯(PBD),并用DSC方法、X-射线衍射、红外光谱及~(13)C-NMR的方法进行结构与物性测定,得如下结果:全同1,2-PBD的熔点为124.3℃;三角晶系中,分子链成了螺旋,晶胞参数为a=17.3A,c= 6.5A;在红外光谱中,其特征谱带出现在694.4 cm~(-1)处;在~(13)C-NMR谱中仅出现四条谱峰,其化学位移分别为142.51、111.56、39.26、37.43 ppm。全同1,2-PBD的~(13)C-NMR谱提供的实验数据表明,在~(13)C-NMR谱中1,2-PBD-CH二碳十个五元组谱峰的归属是有别于Elgert、Kumar已有的归属。它属于一种新的归属,与半经验方法所推演的结果相符。它恰巧同聚丙烯侧甲基五元组谱峰的归属一致。采用半经验方法研究了1,2-PBD的~(13)C-NMR增中CH二碳五元组、CH_2-碳四元组及六元组共振谱峰,同时讨论了模型链的链长、温度以及立构序列的排列对各立构序列键概率的影响,求得了相应的r值。同时采用经验方法对1,2-PBD的~(13)C-NMR谱中CH_2=碳、CH-碳五元组及CH_2-碳四元组谱峰做了归属。两种方法对CH_2-碳谱峰的归属得到了一致的结果。

本工作以EV共聚物为研究对象,明确地提出了共聚物的序列结构与其~(13)C NMR谱,包括符号表示在内的一致性问题。通过对EVAc共聚物~(13)C NMR谱的分析认为,共聚物的序列结构与其~(13)C NMR谱之间存在着某种内在的联系。我们从EV共聚物序列结构的符号表示和Bovey关系出发,阐述了它们之间的一致性,即一一对应关系,并发现了EV共聚物~(13)C NMR谱的两种类型,提出了利用取代基参数进行EV共聚物~(13)C NMR谱分类的判别标准及其衍生出的两种判别方法,阐述了关于EV共聚物~(13)C NMR谱峰分布的预见性。

通过亲核共缩聚合成了一系列酚酞聚芳醚酮砜共聚物和嵌段共聚物 ,并利用1 3C NMR方法研究了共聚物的链结构 ,通过观察酚酞单元中三个位置的季碳原子的化学位移及其相应强度的变化 ,计算共聚物中不同链段的共聚物的组成、平均序列长度和无规度 .结果表明 ,除嵌段共聚物外 ,其它共聚物的无规度均接近 1 ,表明共聚物为无规共聚物 ,而且对三个位置的季碳原子分析均得出了相同的结果.

通过计算机辅助方法对1 3 CNMR化学位移进行预测 .这个方法包括分子拓扑指数和几何参数特征值的计算及对所选特征进行的变量压缩 ,并对所选共振碳的化学位移与其提取的特征进行多元回归分析 ,从而得出其相关数学模型 .本文预测了环己烷中 45个仲碳原子的1 3 C化学位移 ,其标准误差约为 1 .4ppm.

用稀土离子诱导位移和顺磁弛豫时间测定等NMR方法研究了稀土柠檬酸配合物在pH7.4的溶液中的配位结构.结果表明稀土离子通过3-羟基和3-羧基与柠檬酸配体形成1:2的配合物,两个端羧基没有参与配位.通过计算稀土离子和柠檬酸配体中各个碳原子间的空间距离的相对比,建立了稀土离子与柠檬酸配体配位的新模式.

本文以EVAc共聚物为例,阐述了EV共聚物序列结构的符号表示与Bovey关系(Ⅰ)的一致性。在此基础上,选择了EV共聚物序列结构的Sung表示并赋予它以化学位移的意义,在二元组和三元组序列水平上分析了EV共聚物的13种序列结构与Sung表示,与取代基参数,与其~(13)C NMR谱13个谱峰之间的一一对应关系。其主要内容由Sung表示与取代基参数之间的α~S_1,β~S_2,γ~S_3,δ~S_4,δ~+~0ppm对应关系表征,从而构架了由EV共聚物的~(13)C NMR谱通向其序列结构的桥梁,建立起研究EV共聚物序列结构的普适方法。

用固体~(13)C NMR研究了呋喃醇(FA)和FA与三-(2-羟乙基)-异氰酸尿酯(THEIC)缩聚磺化反应及其产物结构,考察了2-甲基呋喃封端的FA线型齐聚物与甲醛水溶液在相转移催化剂(C_4H_9)_4N~+I~-和与大量硫酸作用下的反应特点,探讨了主要参数对反应的影响,阐明了缩聚交联磺化反应的规律,确定了产物的结构。

用~(13)C-NMR方法研完了不同配料比的丁二烯-异戊二烯本体共聚和溶液共聚物的结构,定量计算出了共聚物二元组的浓度和数均序列长度,采用T(?)DO″S法计算出了本体共聚和溶液共聚的竞聚率,并证明各种共聚产物的序列分布都服从一级Markov统计模型。

采用重稀土离子(Dy、Ho、Er、Tm、Yb)研究了水溶液中L-精氨酸的构象。结果表明,距稀土配位中心4个或4个键以上的配体核的接触位移都很小,在稀土离子附近的配体核具有显著的接触位移。通过对配体磁性核结构因子的实验值进行模拟,建立了水溶液中L-精氨酸的整体构象。在L-精氨酸稀土配合物中,配体的羧基与稀土离子配位,配体的骨架结构位于稀土离子的零偶极位移锥面的外侧。对于羧基的双齿配位模式,计算得到的RE~(3+)-O键长为0.21nm。在溶液中配体以伸展状态存在,分子骨架呈全反式构象。

本文应用取代基效应方法研究了氯化聚乙烯~(13)C NMR谱的归属。讨论了它的链结构并指出中氯含量氯化聚乙烯的结构特征是分子链中出现1,2-二氯乙烷式的结构,从氯化聚乙烯的~(13)C谱中归纳出取代基参数,发现氯含量和温度的改变对取代基参数没有明显的影响。而在溶剂ODCB中加入C_2Cl_4后,取代基参数S_1减小0.48ppm。文章最后研究了氯化聚乙烯的序列分布,讨论了氯含量对序列结构的影响。
