Die Konvektionstrocknung ist eine der ältesten Methoden zur Konservierung von Lebensmitteln. Es ist bekannt, dass Agrarprodukte temperaturempfindlich sind. Bei Überhitzung erleiden sie chemische und physikalische Veränderungen, die ihre Qualität vermindern. In der industriellen Praxis wird die Konvektionstrocknung in der Regel auf Grundlage empirisch ermittelter Werte durchgeführt, welche die Produkttemperatur nicht berücksichtigen. Es ist deshalb nicht sichergestellt, ob der Prozess optimal oder auch nur gut betrieben wird. Inhalt dieser Arbeit ist ein Vergleich der klassischen einstufigen Konvektionstrocknung mit einer Prozessführungsstrategie bei der die Produkttemperatur als Regelgröße eingeführt wird. Anhand der Untersuchung des Trocknungsverhaltens von Äpfeln werden die beiden Verfahren analysiert, die erhaltenen Ergebnisse miteinander verglichen und daraus optimierte Trocknungsbedingungen abgeleitet. Die für dieses Projekt entwickelte Prozessanlage erlaubt die simultane Untersuchung sämtlicher wesentlicher Temperaturen, der Gewichtsveränderung und der optischen Qualitätskriterien. Gleichzeitig ist es möglich, entweder die Lufttemperatur oder die Temperatur des Produktes zur regeln, während die jeweils andere Größe als Messwert erfasst wird. Es kann weiterhin zwischen Durch- und Überströmung gewählt werden.

DIADEM, created by THOMSON-CSF, is a methodology for specifying and developing user interfaces. It improves productivity of the interface development process as well as quality of the interface. The method provides support to user interface development in three aspects. (1) DIADEM defines roles of people involved and their tasks and organises the sequence of activities. (2) It provides graphical formalisms supporting information exchange between people. (3) It offers a basic set of rules for optimum human-machine interfaces. The use of DIADEM in three areas (process control, sales support, and multimedia presentation) was observed and evaluated by our laboratory in the European project DIAMANTA (ESPRIT P20507). The method provides an open procedure that leaves room for adaptation to a specific application and environment. This paper gives an overview of DIADEM and shows how to extend formalisms for developing multimedia interfaces.

The statistical analysis of compositional data is commonly used in geological studies. As is well-known, compositions should be treated using logratios of parts, which are difficult to use correctly in standard statistical packages. In this paper we describe the new features of our freeware package, named CoDaPack, which implements most of the basic statistical methods suitable for compositional data. An example using real data is presented to illustrate the use of the package

The statistical analysis of compositional data should be treated using logratios of parts, which are difficult to use correctly in standard statistical packages. For this reason a freeware package, named CoDaPack was created. This software implements most of the basic statistical methods suitable for compositional data. In this paper we describe the new version of the package that now is called CoDaPack3D. It is developed in Visual Basic for applications (associated with Excel©), Visual Basic and Open GL, and it is oriented towards users with a minimum knowledge of computers with the aim at being simple and easy to use. This new version includes new graphical output in 2D and 3D. These outputs could be zoomed and, in 3D, rotated. Also a customization menu is included and outputs could be saved in jpeg format. Also this new version includes an interactive help and all dialog windows have been improved in order to facilitate its use. To use CoDaPack one has to access Excel© and introduce the data in a standard spreadsheet. These should be organized as a matrix where Excel© rows correspond to the observations and columns to the parts. The user executes macros that return numerical or graphical results. There are two kinds of numerical results: new variables and descriptive statistics, and both appear on the same sheet. Graphical output appears in independent windows. In the present version there are 8 menus, with a total of 38 submenus which, after some dialogue, directly call the corresponding macro. The dialogues ask the user to input variables and further parameters needed, as well as where to put these results. The web site http://ima.udg.es/CoDaPack contains this freeware package and only Microsoft Excel© under Microsoft Windows© is required to run the software. Our essay aims at studying suitable statistical methods for the clustering of compositional data in situations where observations are constituted by trajectories of compositional data, that is, by sequences of composition measurements along a domain. Observed trajectories are known as “functional data” and several methods have been proposed for their analysis. In particular, methods for clustering functional data, known as Functional Cluster Analysis (FCA), have been applied by practitioners and scientists in many fields. To our knowledge, FCA techniques have not been extended to cope with the problem of clustering compositional data trajectories. In order to extend FCA techniques to the analysis of compositional data, FCA clustering techniques have to be adapted by using a suitable compositional algebra. The present work centres on the following question: given a sample of compositional data trajectories, how can we formulate a segmentation procedure giving homogeneous classes? To address this problem we follow the steps described below. First of all we adapt the well-known spline smoothing techniques in order to cope with the smoothing of compositional data trajectories. In fact, an observed curve can be thought of as the sum of a smooth part plus some noise due to measurement errors. Spline smoothing techniques are used to isolate the smooth part of the trajectory: clustering algorithms are then applied to these smooth curves. The second step consists in building suitable metrics for measuring the dissimilarity between trajectories: we propose a metric that accounts for difference in both shape and level, and a metric accounting for differences in shape only. A simulation study is performed in order to evaluate the proposed methodologies, using both hierarchical and partitional clustering algorithm. In this article we compare regression models obtained to predict PhD students’ academic performance in the universities of Girona (Spain) and Slovenia. Explanatory variables are characteristics of PhD student’s research group understood as an egocentered social network, background and attitudinal characteristics of the PhD students and some characteristics of the supervisors. Academic performance was measured by the weighted number of publications. Two web questionnaires were designed, one for PhD students and one for their supervisors and other research group members. Most of the variables were easily comparable across universities due to the careful translation procedure and pre-tests. When direct comparison was not possible we created comparable indicators. We used a regression model in which the country was introduced as a dummy coded variable including all possible interaction effects. The optimal transformations of the main and interaction variables are discussed. Some differences between Slovenian and Girona universities emerge. Some variables like supervisor’s performance and motivation for autonomy prior to starting the PhD have the same positive effect on the PhD student’s performance in both countries. On the other hand, variables like too close supervision by the supervisor and having children have a negative influence in both countries. However, we find differences between countries when we observe the motivation for research prior to starting the PhD which increases performance in Slovenia but not in Girona. As regards network variables, frequency of supervisor advice increases performance in Slovenia and decreases it in Girona. The negative effect in Girona could be explained by the fact that additional contacts of the PhD student with his/her supervisor might indicate a higher workload in addition to or instead of a better advice about the dissertation. The number of external student’s advice relationships and social support mean contact intensity are not significant in Girona, but they have a negative effect in Slovenia. We might explain the negative effect of external advice relationships in Slovenia by saying that a lot of external advice may actually result from a lack of the more relevant internal advice

One of the techniques used to detect faults in dynamic systems is analytical redundancy. An important difficulty in applying this technique to real systems is dealing with the uncertainties associated with the system itself and with the measurements. In this paper, this uncertainty is taken into account by the use of intervals for the parameters of the model and for the measurements. The method that is proposed in this paper checks the consistency between the system's behavior, obtained from the measurements, and the model's behavior; if they are inconsistent, then there is a fault. The problem of detecting faults is stated as a quantified real constraint satisfaction problem, which can be solved using the modal interval analysis (MIA). MIA is used because it provides powerful tools to extend the calculations over real functions to intervals. To improve the results of the detection of the faults, the simultaneous use of several sliding time windows is proposed. The result of implementing this method is semiqualitative tracking (SQualTrack), a fault-detection tool that is robust in the sense that it does not generate false alarms, i.e., if there are false alarms, they indicate either that the interval model does not represent the system adequately or that the interval measurements do not represent the true values of the variables adequately. SQualTrack is currently being used to detect faults in real processes. Some of these applications using real data have been developed within the European project advanced decision support system for chemical/petrochemical manufacturing processes and are also described in this paper

Process supervision is the activity focused on monitoring the process operation in order to deduce conditions to maintain the normality including when faults are present Depending on the number/distribution/heterogeneity of variables, behaviour situations, sub-processes, etc. from processes, human operators and engineers do not easily manipulate the information. This leads to the necessity of automation of supervision activities. Nevertheless, the difficulty to deal with the information complicates the design and development of software applications. We present an approach called "integrated supervision systems". It proposes multiple supervisors coordination to supervise multiple sub-processes whose interactions permit one to supervise the global process

Expert supervision systems are software applications specially designed to automate process monitoring. The goal is to reduce the dependency on human operators to assure the correct operation of a process including faulty situations. Construction of this kind of application involves an important task of design and development in order to represent and to manipulate process data and behaviour at different degrees of abstraction for interfacing with data acquisition systems connected to the process. This is an open problem that becomes more complex with the number of variables, parameters and relations to account for the complexity of the process. Multiple specialised modules tuned to solve simpler tasks that operate under a co-ordination provide a solution. A modular architecture based on concepts of software agents, taking advantage of the integration of diverse knowledge-based techniques, is proposed for this purpose. The components (software agents, communication mechanisms and perception/action mechanisms) are based on ICa (Intelligent Control architecture), software middleware supporting the build-up of applications with software agent features

The paper focuses on taking advantage of large amounts of data that are systematically stored in plants (by means of SCADA systems), but not exploited enough in order to achieve supervisory goals (fault detection, diagnosis and reconfiguration). The methodology of case base reasoning (CBR) is proposed to perform supervisory tasks in industrial processes by re-using the stored data. The goal is to take advantage of experiences, registered in a suitable structure as cam, avoiding the tedious task of knowledge acquisition and representation needed by other reasoning techniques as expert systems. An outlook of CBR terminology and basic concepts are presented. The adaptation of CBR in performing expert supervisory tasks, taking into account the particularities and difficulties derived from dynamic systems, is discussed. A special interest is focused in proposing a general case definition suitable for supervisory tasks. Finally, this structure and the whole methodology is tested in a application example for monitoring a real drier chamber

El avance tecnológico está gestando un nuevo concepto de unidades de información que supone la desaparición progresiva de los actuales modelos caracterizados por grandes plantas físicas destinadas a atender a un significativo número de visitantes y custodiar importantes cantidades de valiosos materiales impresos. Los nuevos centros de información, investigación y documentación están llamados a satisfacer de una manera más eficiente a sus usuarios y permitirles acceder a la información de una manera más expedita y confiable. Dentro de este contexto, se ubicó el siguiente trabajo que tuvo como objetivo diseñar un software para la digitalización, ordenamiento y creación de la base de datos del Centro de Documentación del Pedagógico José Manuel Siso Martínez con el fin de optimizar la búsqueda de información, la elaboración de estadísticas y el control de procesos del mismo.

En el transcurso del desarrollos de este trabajo se puede observar el análisis del Departamento Administrativo Nacional de Estadística en Colombia (DANE), La Dirección de Impuestos y Aduanas Nacionales DIAN, el Departamento Nacional de Planeación DNP, La Superintendencia de Sociedades y Cámara de comercio) para entender si estas en un entorno actual a la realidad empresarial están ayudando o no a las PYMES en Colombia. Entiendo si presentan un buen servicio informativo para el apoyo estratégico y productivo desde la creación de estas mismas. Así mismo se analiza las puntos positivos y negativos que cada entidad representa hacia las PYMES y como es la percepción que las empresas tiene de las entidades gubernamentales, para lograr establecer las mejoras posibles, con el fin de manejar un mejor camino a mejorar el vínculo Logístico y administrativo en el entorno empresarial del sector privado y gubernamental.

Introduction: the 5, 10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) is an essential enzyme in folate metabolism; their polymorphisms have been associated with heart disease risk increase, obstetric problems, neural tube defects in fetuses and cancer susceptibility. This gene has a single nucleotide polymorphism, a C-T change at nucleotide 677, which affects significantly its enzymatic activity. Objective: because of the biological importance of this enzyme and the Colombian population genetic heterogeneity characteristic, a study was performed to determine allele and genotype frequencies of MTHFR C677T polymorphism in healthy individuals, taking into account that in Colombia there are only studies that have involved case-control methodology. Methods: we analyzed this polymorphism trough the amplification of the DNA of a 206 students sample population. Additionally, Colombian overall frequencies were calculated, using data from healthy controls reported in other studies. Results: a Hardy-Weinberg disequilibri m was found in the sample tested. For the Colombian data, we found that the global population was in equilibrium. Conclusion: T allele population frequency seems to be under positive selection pressure, which is reflected in the population allele increase, despite its deleterious effect. A Spanish study reported similar results and identified folic acid supplementation on expectant mothers as a probably cause of this change.

Desde la adopción de un significado integral de salud por la Organización mundial de la salud (OMS) donde esta es definida como “…un estado de completo bienestar físico, mental y social, y no solamente la ausencia de enfermedad… 1948”, ha sido fundamental entender las motivaciones colectivas e individuales que se involucran como determinantes del proceso de bienestar y enfermedad, estos mismos hacen que se torne el estado de salud en una compleja sinfonía de variables dinámicas que se transforman de lugar a lugar o de individuo a individuo. Desde allí, el entorno, en todos sus aspectos ha mostrado gran importancia imprimiendo patrones en las conductas comunes e individuales que se transfiguran finalmente sobre el individuo.

Introducción: La utilización de catéteres venosos centrales (CVC) en la unidad de cuidado intensivo tiene gran importancia y amplio uso, son fuente de apoyo para la realización de varia actividades, pero con un gran potencial de complicaciones, por lo cual es fundamental conocer todos los aspectos relacionados con su uso, para así poder controlarlas. Métodos: Realizamos un estudio descriptivo de corte transversal con el objetivo de caracterizar los pacientes que requirieron CVC en el Hospital Universitario Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá durante junio de 2011 y mayo de 2013, describimos sus complicaciones asociadas tanto mecánicas como infecciosas, determinamos la tasa de bacteriemia, gérmenes causales y sus patrones de resistencia. Resultados: Se colocaron 2.286 CVC, el 52,9% en hombres, la media de edad fue 58,9 años. El total de las complicaciones ascienden al 4,5%, infecciosas 4,0% y mecánicas 0,6%. Dentro de las mecánicas solo encontramos inmediatas, no tardías. Con respecto a las infecciosas encontramos infección del sitio de inserción y bacteriemia. Se documentó una tasa de bacteriemia de 3,4 por 1000-días catéter en 2013, en disminución con respecto a 2012 (3,9) y 2011 (4,4). El microorganismo mas frecuentemente aislado fue el Staphylococcus Coagulasa Negativo con patrón usual de resistencia. Conclusión: Las complicaciones asociadas al uso de CVC en el HUFSFB, se presentan en menor frecuencia a las descritas internacionalmente; la tasa de bacteriemia asociada al CVC ha disminuido año tras año, posiblemente asociado al cuidado mas estricto posterior a la implementación de protocolos de manejo.
