On a mathematical model arising in MHD perturbed equilibrium for Stellarator devices. A numerical approach.

Abstract?We consider a mathematical model related to the stationary regime of a plasma of fusion nuclear, magnetically confined in a Stellarator device. Using the geometric properties of the fusion device, a suitable system of coordinates and averaging methods, the mathematical problem may be reduced to a two dimensional free boundary problem of nonlocal type, where the corresponding differential equation is of the Grad?Shafranov type. The current balance within each flux magnetic gives us the possibility to define the third covariant magnetic field component with respect to the averaged poloidal flux function. We present here some numerical experiences and we give some numerical approach for the averaged poloidal flux and for the third covariant magnetic field component.

Assessing the landscape value of public works: validation of the method in the lowlands of the middle section of the Tajo river (Spain)

This paper proposes a method of landscape characterisation and assessment of public works associated with fluvial landscapes, which is validated in the middle section of the Tajo River. In this method, a set of criteria is identified that unifies various characteristics of the landscape associated to the infrastructures. A specific weight is then assigned to each criterion in such a way as to produce a semi-quantitative value ranging from a minimum value of 0 to a maximum value of 10. Taken together, these criteria enable us to describe and assess the value of the public works selected for study, in this case helping us to evaluate the sections of the River Tajo analysed in our study area. Accordingly, the value of all the infrastructures associated to a stretch of the river covering several hundred kilometres was determined and after dividing this stretch into sections, they were compared under equivalent conditions to provide a hierarchal ranking.

Adaptive Control for ZVS Three Phase Full Active Bridge Converter with ARCN

This paper presents an adaptive control for the auxiliary circuit, called ARCN (Auxiliary Resonant Commutating Network), used to achieve ZVS in full active bridge converters under a wide load range. Depending on the load conditions, the proposed control adapts the timing of the ARCN to minimize the losses. The principle of operation and implementation considerations are presented for a three phase full active bridge converter, proposing different methods to implement the control according to the specifications. The experimental results shown verify the proposed methodology.

Combining Wireless Sensor Networks and Semantic Middleware for an Internet of Things-Based Sportsman/Woman Monitoring Application.

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are spearheading the efforts taken to build and deploy systems aiming to accomplish the ultimate objectives of the Internet of Things. Due to the sensors WSNs nodes are provided with, and to their ubiquity and pervasive capabilities, these networks become extremely suitable for many applications that so-called conventional cabled or wireless networks are unable to handle. One of these still underdeveloped applications is monitoring physical parameters on a person. This is an especially interesting application regarding their age or activity, for any detected hazardous parameter can be notified not only to the monitored person as a warning, but also to any third party that may be helpful under critical circumstances, such as relatives or healthcare centers. We propose a system built to monitor a sportsman/woman during a workout session or performing a sport-related indoor activity. Sensors have been deployed by means of several nodes acting as the nodes of a WSN, along with a semantic middleware development used for hardware complexity abstraction purposes. The data extracted from the environment, combined with the information obtained from the user, will compose the basis of the services that can be obtained.

Pasarela sobre el jardín Turia entre la calle Pedro Aleixandre y la avenida de Francia nº1 (Valencia)

El proyecto de la pasarela sobre el cauce, hoy Parque del Turia, entre la Calle Pedro Aleixandre y Avda. de Francia nº1, queda enmarcado dentro de un proyecto mucho más ambicioso, que pretende revolucionar la ciudad de Valencia. La integración total del parque dentro de la ciudad sin que éste suponga una barrera. Por dicha razón su diseño y concepción debe englobarse dentro de un contexto determinado que sea coherente con todo lo proyectado y diseñado hasta el momento. En la actualidad el parque es un lugar de encuentro referente en Valencia con más de tres millones de visitantes anuales, es el más visitado y grande de España. El parque posee integrado en su interior la Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, el Parque Gulliver, el Palau de la Música, el Parque de Cabecera, el Bioparc y el Zoo de Valencia. La pasarela será un paso de referencia para la gran cantidad de usuarios que cruzan a diario y especialmente los fines de semana, por esta zona de gran importancia por su valor turístico y comercial. Por tanto, será una infraestructura discreta pero estética, útil y confortable, que tiende a estar integrada con el entorno, manteniendo una inversión y mantenimiento adecuados.

Middleware architectures for the Smart Grid : survey and challenges in the foreseeable future

The traditional power grid is just a one-way supplier that gets no feedback data about the energy delivered, what tariffs could be the most suitable ones for customers, the shifting daily needs of electricity in a facility, etc. Therefore, it is only natural that efforts are being invested in improving power grid behavior and turning it into a Smart Grid. However, to this end, several components have to be either upgraded or created from scratch. Among the new components required, middleware appears as a critical one, for it will abstract all the diversity of the used devices for power transmission (smart meters, embedded systems, etc.) and will provide the application layer with a homogeneous interface involving power production and consumption management data that were not able to be provided before. Additionally, middleware is expected to guarantee that updates to the current metering infrastructure (changes in service or hardware availability) or any added legacy measuring appliance will get acknowledged for any future request. Finally, semantic features are of major importance to tackle scalability and interoperability issues. A survey on the most prominent middleware architectures for Smart Grids is presented in this paper, along with an evaluation of their features and their strong points and weaknesses.

Presentación del editor [del libro "Homenaje a Agustín de Betancourt y Molina"]

Se presenta el segundo tomo de la serie Homenajes dedicado a Agustín de Betancourt y Molina. En primer lugar se llevó a cabo un Acto Público de Homenaje en el Ayuntamiento del Puerto de la Cruz; posteriormente, en Santa Cruz, le fue entregada a su Presidente, Excmo. Sr. D. Adán Martín, la medalla de la RAI , en un acto previo y se llevaron a cabo a continuación las sesiones de contenido académico. Éstas se iniciaron con una primera intervención para centrar al personaje en su contexto histórico, exponiendo los sucesivos ponentes la situación en los últimos años de las técnicas que trató Betancourt. Para ello, se celebraron dos mesas redondas en las que participaron Académicos Numerarios de la RAI que presentaron el desarrollo de las diferentes ramas de la ingeniería en que actuó Betancourt desde los tiempos de este genial canario. Es decir, que el homenaje no consistió en un tratamiento hagiográfico del personaje, sino que fue una ocasión para meditar sobre la situación actual, aunque, lógicamente, los ponentes arrancaron de una reflexión inicial sobre los trabajos y méritos del homenajeado.
