OBJECTIVE: Our objective is to describe pouchography, CT, and MRI features of the J-shaped pouch, both normal and with pouch-related complications. CONCLUSION: Pouchography is performed before closure of the loop ileostomy to assess the integrity of the ileal pouch and anastomosis. CT and MRI can be performed when postoperative complications, such as small-bowel obstruction, pouchitis, leakage, abscess, intramural hematoma, desmoid tumor, or recurrent Crohn's disease, are suspected.

The purpose of this article was to review the strategies to control patient dose in adult and pediatric computed tomography (CT), taking into account the change of technology from single-detector row CT to multi-detector row CT. First the relationships between computed tomography dose index, dose length product, and effective dose in adult and pediatric CT are revised, along with the diagnostic reference level concept. Then the effect of image noise as a function of volume computed tomography dose index, reconstructed slice thickness, and the size of the patient are described. Finally, the potential of tube current modulation CT is discussed.

The increasing incidence of children identified and diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and other developmental disabilities (DD) poses a major challenge to Title V and other programs as they try to meet the diverse and sometimes complex needs of these children. However, those state that have initiated coordinated efforts to meet the needs of these children cross systems have had the opportunity to form and/or strengthen relationships with new partners. In addition, these coordinated efforts will allow states to develop new policies, programs and financing mechanisms addressing the health of children with ASD, which may also strengthen the system of care for all Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs.

Capsule Habitat parameters associated with 706 Barn Owl (Tyto alba) nesting boxes in Israel were analysed. Pairs bred in 259 of the boxes. The intensity of agricultural practices at nestbox sites were shown to have only a weak effect on aspects of Barn Owl breeding in this region.

The MIT-Scan-T2 device is marketed as a non-destructive way to determine pavement thickness on both HMA and PCC pavements. PCC pavement thickness determination is an important incentivedisincentive measurement for the Iowa DOT and contractors. The thickness incentive can be as much as 3% of the concrete contact unit price and the disincentive can be as severe as remove and replace. This study evaluated the potential of the MIT device for PCC pavement thickness quality assurance. The limited testing indicates the unit is sufficiently repeatable and accurate enough to replace core drilling as the thickness measurement method. Further study is needed to statistically establish the single user and multi-user/device precision as well as establish an appropriate sampling protocol and PWL specification.

Objectives: The study aims to assess the feasibility and midterm outcome of trans-peritoneal laparoscopy for coeliac artery compression syndrome (CACS).Design: Retrospective chart review involving four European vascular surgery departments and two surgical teams.Materials and methods: charts for patients who underwent laparoscopy for symptomatic CACS between December 2003 and November 2009 were reviewed. Preoperative computed tomography (CT) angiography and postoperative duplex scan and/or CT angiography were performed. Results: Eleven consecutive patients (nine women) with a median age of 52 years (interquartile range: 42.5-59 years) underwent trans-peritoneal laparoscopy for CACS. All patients had a history of postprandial abdominal pain; weight loss exceeded 10% of the body mass in eight cases. Preoperative CT angiography revealed coeliac trunk stenosis >70% in all cases. One patient had additional aortitis and inferior mesenteric artery occlusion, while another patient presented with an occluded superior mesenteric artery. Two conversions occurred (one difficult dissection and one aorto-hepatic bypass needed for incomplete release of CACS). The median blood loss was 195 ml (range: 50-900 ml) and median operative time was 80 min (interquartile range: 65-162.5 years). Symptoms improved immediately in 10/11 patients (no residual stenosis) while one remained unchanged despite a residual stenosis treated by a percutaneous angioplasty. Symptoms reappeared in one patient due to coeliac axis occlusion. The mean follow-up period was 35 +/- 23 months (range: 12-78 months). Conclusion: Our study demonstrates that trans-peritoneal laparoscopy for treating median arcuate ligament syndrome is safe and feasible. Additional patients and a longer follow-up are needed for long-term assessment of this laparoscopic technique. (C) 2011 European Society for Vascular Surgery. Published by Elsevier Ltd.
