A collection of the most approved pieces of music from various authors: transcribed while member of Harvard University, from July 1789 to July 1793

John Pierce kept this journal while he was a student at Harvard College. It consists of manuscript musical scores with annotations indicating the occasions at which the music was performed. These occasions included commencements, public exhibitions and Dudleian lectures. A note indicates that one anthem was prepared by Samuel Holyoke at Pierce's request, to be performed at Pierce's class commencement exercises, held on July 13, 1793. Several annotations were made in May 1794, the year following Pierce's graduation. There is a table of contents on the last page.

No âmbito de um projeto, já concluído, sobre escolhas vocacionais realizadas pelos alunos à entrada do ensino secundário em Portugal, um dado mereceu a nossa particular atenção: a renúncia da influência, ou seja, a crença de que a escolha efetuada foi liberta de qualquer tipo de influência evidenciou-se como valor comum partilhado por todos os jovens inquiridos. Com base em dados, quantitativos (inquérito por questionário a 1793 alunos do ensino secundário) e qualitativos (24 entrevistas individuais semidiretivas a alunos do mesmo nível de ensino), recolhidos no âmbito do citado projeto, este artigo procura (re)situar a negação das influências externas no processo de definição do percurso escolar no quadro dos processos de construção de si na adolescência. Faremos isso confrontando a autonomia reivindicada pelos adolescentes com as fontes de influência que participam e suportam essa mesma escolha. Assim, identificar-se-ão ao longo do artigo quem são os interlocutores dos alunos no processo de (re)definição das suas vocações, a que suportes informativos recorrem para apoiar as suas escolhas e que grau de importância atribuem a estas fontes de informação. O conjunto dos dados apresentados permite melhor compreender a complexidade inerente aos processos de individuação na adolescência, ao enquadrar os legítimos discursos de afirmação de si na densa teia de relações sociais em que têm lugar, destacando o papel diferenciado desempenhado pelo mundo escolar, pela família e pela mídia.

Does the European Semester deliver the right policy advice? Bruegel Policy Contribution 2013/12, 20 September 2013

The July 2013 European Council recommendations to the euro area recognise a number of fiscal and macrostructural challenges, but do not fully exploit the options made possible by the European economic governance framework. There are particular problems with the Council's suggestions for the euro area as whole, which are not (or not adequately) reflected by the country-specific recommendations. A major drawback is that the Council recommendations do not give sufficient importance to symmetric intra-euro area adjustments. Reference to the euro area's ‘aggregate fiscal stance’ is empty rhetoric. Insufficient attention is paid to demand management. The most comprehensive recommendations are made on structural reforms. The July/August 2013 Article IV IMF recommendations on macroeconomic policies could also have been more ambitious, but they correspond better to the economic situation of the euro area than the Council’s recommendations. The President of the Eurogroup should continue discussions on the completion of the economic governance framework, including completion of the banking union and the setting-up of a euro-area institution responsible for managing the euro area’s aggregate fiscal stance.
