La production biologique d'hydrogène (H2) représente une technologie possible pour la production à grande échelle durable de H2 nécessaire pour l'économie future de l'hydrogène. Cependant, l'obstacle majeur à l'élaboration d'un processus pratique a été la faiblesse des rendements qui sont obtenus, généralement autour de 25%, bien en sous des rendements pouvant être atteints pour la production de biocarburants à partir d'autres processus. L'objectif de cette thèse était de tenter d'améliorer la production d'H2 par la manipulation physiologique et le génie métabolique. Une hypothèse qui a été étudiée était que la production d'H2 pourrait être améliorée et rendue plus économique en utilisant un procédé de fermentation microaérobie sombre car cela pourrait fournir la puissance supplémentaire nécessaire pour une conversion plus complète du substrat et donc une production plus grande d'H2 sans l'aide de l'énergie lumineuse. Les concentrations optimales d’O2 pour la production de H2 microaérobie ont été examinées ainsi que l'impact des sources de carbone et d'azote sur le processus. La recherche présentée ici a démontré la capacité de Rhodobacter capsulatus JP91 hup- (un mutant déficient d’absorption-hydrogénase) de produire de l'H2 sous condition microaérobie sombre avec une limitation dans des quantités d’O2 et d'azote fixé. D'autres travaux devraient être entrepris pour augmenter les rendements d'H2 en utilisant cette technologie. De plus, un processus de photofermentation a été créé pour améliorer le rendement d’H2 à partir du glucose à l'aide de R. capsulatus JP91 hup- soit en mode non renouvelé (batch) et / ou en conditions de culture en continu. Certains défis techniques ont été surmontés en mettant en place des conditions adéquates de fonctionnement pour un rendement accru d'H2. Un rendement maximal de 3,3 mols de H2/ mol de glucose a été trouvé pour les cultures en batch tandis que pour les cultures en continu, il était de 10,3 mols H2/ mol de glucose, beaucoup plus élevé que celui rapporté antérieurement et proche de la valeur maximale théorique de 12 mols H2/ mol de glucose. Dans les cultures en batch l'efficacité maximale de conversion d’énergie lumineuse était de 0,7% alors qu'elle était de 1,34% dans les cultures en continu avec un rendement de conversion maximum de la valeur de chauffage du glucose de 91,14%. Diverses autres approches pour l'augmentation des rendements des processus de photofermentation sont proposées. Les résultats globaux indiquent qu'un processus photofermentatif efficace de production d'H2 à partir du glucose en une seule étape avec des cultures en continu dans des photobioréacteurs pourrait être développé ce qui serait un processus beaucoup plus prometteur que les processus en deux étapes ou avec les co-cultures étudiés antérieurément. En outre, l'expression hétérologue d’hydrogenase a été utilisée comme une stratégie d'ingénierie métabolique afin d'améliorer la production d'H2 par fermentation. La capacité d'exprimer une hydrogénase d'une espèce avec des gènes de maturation d'une autre espèce a été examinée. Une stratégie a démontré que la protéine HydA orpheline de R. rubrum est fonctionnelle et active lorsque co-exprimée chez Escherichia coli avec HydE, HydF et HydG provenant d'organisme différent. La co-expression des gènes [FeFe]-hydrogénase structurels et de maturation dans des micro-organismes qui n'ont pas une [FeFe]-hydrogénase indigène peut entraîner le succès dans l'assemblage et la biosynthèse d'hydrogénase active. Toutefois, d'autres facteurs peuvent être nécessaires pour obtenir des rendements considérablement augmentés en protéines ainsi que l'activité spécifique des hydrogénases recombinantes. Une autre stratégie a consisté à surexprimer une [FeFe]-hydrogénase très active dans une souche hôte de E. coli. L'expression d'une hydrogénase qui peut interagir directement avec le NADPH est souhaitable car cela, plutôt que de la ferrédoxine réduite, est naturellement produit par le métabolisme. Toutefois, la maturation de ce type d'hydrogénase chez E. coli n'a pas été rapportée auparavant. L'opéron hnd (hndA, B, C, D) de Desulfovibrio fructosovorans code pour une [FeFe]-hydrogénase NADP-dépendante, a été exprimé dans différentes souches d’E. coli avec les gènes de maturation hydE, hydF et hydG de Clostridium acetobutylicum. L'activité de l'hydrogénase a été détectée in vitro, donc une NADP-dépendante [FeFe]-hydrogénase multimérique active a été exprimée avec succès chez E. coli pour la première fois. Les recherches futures pourraient conduire à l'expression de cette enzyme chez les souches de E. coli qui produisent plus de NADPH, ouvrant la voie à une augmentation des rendements d'hydrogène via la voie des pentoses phosphates.

La croissance dramatique du commerce électronique des titres cache un grand potentiel pour les investisseurs, de même que pour l’industrie des valeurs mobilières en général. Prenant en considération ses risques particuliers, les autorités réglementaires vivent un défi important face à l’Internet en tant que nouveau moyen d’investir. Néanmoins, malgré l’évolution technologique, les objectifs fondamentaux et l’approche des autorités réglementaires restent similaires à ce qui se produit présentement. Cet article analyse l’impact de l’Internet sur le commerce des valeurs mobilières en se concentrant sur les problèmes soulevés par l’utilisation de ce nouveau moyen de communication dans le contexte du marché secondaire. Par conséquent, son objectif est de dresser le portrait des plaintes typiques des investisseurs, de même que celui des activités frauduleuses en valeurs mobilières propres au cyberespace. L’auteur fait une synthèse des développements récents en analysant l’approche des autorités réglementaires, les études doctrinales, la jurisprudence et les cas administratifs. The first two articles build procedures to simulate vector of univariate states and estimate parameters in nonlinear and non Gaussian state space models. We propose state space speci fications that offer more flexibility in modeling dynamic relationship with latent variables. Our procedures are extension of the HESSIAN method of McCausland[2012]. Thus, they use approximation of the posterior density of the vector of states that allow to : simulate directly from the state vector posterior distribution, to simulate the states vector in one bloc and jointly with the vector of parameters, and to not allow data augmentation. These properties allow to build posterior simulators with very high relative numerical efficiency. Generic, they open a new path in nonlinear and non Gaussian state space analysis with limited contribution of the modeler. The third article is an essay in commodity market analysis. Private firms coexist with farmers' cooperatives in commodity markets in subsaharan african countries. The private firms have the biggest market share while some theoretical models predict they disappearance once confronted to farmers cooperatives. Elsewhere, some empirical studies and observations link cooperative incidence in a region with interpersonal trust, and thus to farmers trust toward cooperatives. We propose a model that sustain these empirical facts. A model where the cooperative reputation is a leading factor determining the market equilibrium of a price competition between a cooperative and a private firm

Continuous exact non-atomic games are naturally associated to certain operators between Banach spaces. It thus makes sense to study games by means of the corresponding operators. We characterize non-atomic exact market games in terms of the properties of the associated operators. We also prove a separation theorem for weak compact sets of countably additive measures, which is of independent interest.

This thesis studied the impact of market orietnation on business performance, in the seafood industry, which is a unique situation wherein the firms were all 100% export oriented. The study was able to prove that in the context of the seafood indsutry, implementation of market orientation principles will lead to increase in business performance. The business performance variables were measured under two heads, namely economic performance and non-economic performance. Market orientation in Indian seafood firms was significantly and postiively related to both the performance measures. Under the non-economic performance, were the customer and employee consequences.Again market orientation was positively and significantly related to both the consequences.Thus, the implication arising from the study is this: market orientation in Indian seafood processing firms increases their business performance. The implementation of market orientation will help the seafood firms in gaining competitve advantages in exporting. This in turn will result in increased exports and the position of Indian seafood in the global market will be strengthened. It will thus become a leading player in the global fish trade. Next, the focus was on the effect of the antecedents on the market orientation of a firm. It was seen that several factors were antecedents to the adoption of market orientation principles. They include top management emphasis, conflict, centralization and reward system. It is noted that top management emphasis and support is vital to the market orientation programme. The top management needs to adopt market oriented behaviour and reinforce the need for being market oriented, for it to percolate down the line.Interdepartmental conflict is seen to affect market orientation positively. A large percent of the Indian seafood firms are traditionally family-owned companies, rather than professionally managed firms. This would result in promulgation of old ideas of management whereby, conflict was seen as a healthy exercise, which helped to build up each department's efficiency. But, this view in the long run proves to be detrimental to the firm's performance and must therefore be kept to a bare minimum, if any.Decentralisation of decision making facilitates the participation of the lower level employees and builds up their motivational levels and commitment to the firm. Thus employees are encouraged to make their own decisions, so that they can deal with customers faster and more efficiently. Reward systems help improve an employee's morale, provide encouragement and helps inculcate commitment and loyalty. It improves the employee's self worth and fulfills his need for achievement. A satisfied employee works better, produces more output and needs less supervision, and is happy, thereby reducing costs to the company for replacement and retraining, if the employee quits.Competitive intensity plays a moderating role on the market orientation business performance. Thus in times of greater competition, the relationship between market orientation and business performance grows stronger. Thus, this thesis was successful in investigating a positive relationship between business performance and market orientation.

The research problem selected for this study is one of the important issues in the field of financial market and its marketing dimensions on which researchers and academicians encourage more research studies. This research study may be relevant considering its significance in terms of some possible findings which may be useful to Fls in framing successful market segmentation approach to turn their dissatisfied and ‘merely' satisfied customers into ‘delighted’ customers, which in turn can result in better savings mobilisation. The household segments may also be benefited from the research findings if they bring about an attitudinal change in their savings behaviour. The importance of the study may be briefly highlighted in the following points. The research study examines existing theories on market segmentation by Fls and the findings might supplement the existing theories on this topic. The study brings to light certain clues to strengthen market segmentation approach of Fls.The study throws light on the existing beliefs and perceptions on customer behaviour which may be useful in effecting some positive changes in market segmentation approach by Fls. The study suggests certain relationship between market segmentation variables and customer behaviour in the context of marketing of financial products by Fls. The study supplements the existing knowledge on different dimension of market segmentation in the financial market which might encourage future research in the field.

This thesis is an outcome of the investigations carried out on the development of an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model to implement 2-D DFT at high speed. A new definition of 2-D DFT relation is presented. This new definition enables DFT computation organized in stages involving only real addition except at the final stage of computation. The number of stages is always fixed at 4. Two different strategies are proposed. 1) A visual representation of 2-D DFT coefficients. 2) A neural network approach. The visual representation scheme can be used to compute, analyze and manipulate 2D signals such as images in the frequency domain in terms of symbols derived from 2x2 DFT. This, in turn, can be represented in terms of real data. This approach can help analyze signals in the frequency domain even without computing the DFT coefficients. A hierarchical neural network model is developed to implement 2-D DFT. Presently, this model is capable of implementing 2-D DFT for a particular order N such that ((N))4 = 2. The model can be developed into one that can implement the 2-D DFT for any order N upto a set maximum limited by the hardware constraints. The reported method shows a potential in implementing the 2-D DF T in hardware as a VLSI / ASIC

Five hundred and thirty six samples offishes and 278 prawn samples from the major fish market ofCoimbatore, South India, were analysed for the prevalence of Aeromonas hydrophila over a period of2 years (June 1997–May 1999). The prevalence level of A. hydrophila varied from 17.62% in prawns to 33.58% in fishes. More than 30% of the popular table fishes such as Sardinella longiceps, Rastrelliger kanagurta, Mugil cephalus and Caranx sexfasciatus were tested positive for this organism. Among the different species of the prawns analysed, Penaeus semisulcatus showed higher incidence (23.52%). Seasonal variation in the prevalence levels of A. hydrophila in fish and prawns revealed a higher prevalence during the monsoon season during 1997–98 and 1998–99. Of the different body parts of the fishes analysed for A. hydrophila, the intestinal samples showed higher prevalence (38.43%), followed by body surface (32.46%) and gill (29.10%). Considering the psychrotrophic nature and role of A. hydrophila as a pathogen ofemerging importance, the considerably high levels ofthis organism in a popular food item such as fish and prawn raises serious concern

IT and related services played a major role for India’s current 9.2. GDP growth. Organized retailing in India is one more example for its open economy. The IT industries where able develop a demand for Indian talents all over the world and improved their living standards. It directly impacts only a small minority of Indian population while organized retail affects every single Indian and every sector of Indian society. The paper gives a glimpse of the slow evolution of retail market over the years in India and its contribution for economic growth. This study examines the behavioral factors that influence the Indian Investors to invest in the Real Estate Market. Among the various factors that affect the tendency of investors to invest in the real market, certain factors are greatly influenced the investors at greatest extend while others at least level. From this study it is revealed that motivation from the real estate developers and brokers (mean value- 3.46) is most influencing factor and happening of uncertain events (mean value- 1.75) is the least factor that influences the investors’ investment behavior. In this study, the behavioral factor like over confidence and the hypotheses regarding education, religion were analyzed and found that religious factor influences the Indian investors to invest in the real estate

Kerala, a classic ecotourism destination in India, provides significant opportunities for livelihood options to the people who depend on the resources from the forest and those who live in difficult terrains. This article analyses the socio-demographic, psychographic and travel behavior patterns and its sub-characteristics in the background of foreign and domestic tourists. The data source for the article has been obtained from a primary survey of 350 randomly chosen tourists, 175 each from domestic and foreign tourists, visiting Kerala’s ecotourists destinations during August-December 2010-11. Several socio-demographic, psychographic and life style factors have been identified based on the inference from field survey. There is considerable divergence in most of the factors identified in the case of domestic and international tourists. Post-trip attributes like satisfaction and intentions to return show that the ecotourism destinations in Kerala have significant potential that can help communities in the region.
