CDS/ISIS: un bon producte a un preu regalat

Presentació de la base de dades que conté la col·lecció del Laboratori de l'Escola Universitaria Jordi Rubió i Balaguer de Biblioteconomia i Documentació amb el gestor CDS/ISIS -desenvolupat per la Unesco-. Després d'una explicació general sobre CDS/ISIS, s'exposa amb detall el procés del disseny de la base de dades: definició dels camps del registre seguint una adaptació del Format Comú de Comunicació (CCF); definició de les pantalles d'entrada de dades; selecció dels camps a indexar i métodes d'indexacióemprats, i definició del format de sortida. Finalment, es fa una avaluació del producte.

Estudio de la accesibilidad de los documentos cientificos en soporte digital

Resumen: El artículo analiza los problemas de accesibilidad que actualmente presentan los artículos científicos en soporte digital. El estudio se centra en los aspectos de facilidad de uso del contenido de los documentos digitales según la forma en que se publiquen, sin entrar en el estudio de los distintos sistemas de recuperación. Se analizan los dos formatos más utilizados para la publicación de artículos científicos en soporte digital: HTML y PDF, estudiando el desempeño lector en relación a la presencia de sumarios o de tablas internas o vinculadas. El estudio se ha realizado con dos colectivos: 30 sujetos ciegos, usuarios de Jaws, contactados gracias a la mediación de la Fundación ONCE, y 30 sujetos no ciegos, profesores del Departamento de Biblioteconomía y Documentación de la Universidad de Barcelona. El estudio muestra que la localización de los datos contenidos en tablas se ve facilitada en documentos HTML por la inclusión de un sumario que vincule con la tabla, así como la inclusión de tablas completas en el cuerpo del documento HTML facilita la actividad lectora por parte de los usuarios ciegos. A nivel metodológico la presente investigación aporta dos novedades relevantes respecto a la literatura existente en los estudios de usabilidad con ciegos: estudia la usabilidad del formato PDF y es un test de usabilidad cuantitativo; este último hecho dificulta su comparación con la mayoría de artículos publicados. Abstract: This paper analyses the problems of accessibility posed by scientific articles published in digital format, focusing on the ease of use of their content with respect to the form in which they are published (irrespective of the recovery system). The two most widely used formats for the publication of scientific articles in digital format, HTML and PDF, are analysed, examining reader performance in relation to the presence of contents lists or internal or linked tables. The study involved two groups: 30 blind subjects, all JAWS users, contacted through the ONCE Foundation, and 30 sighted subjects, lecturers in the Department of Librarianship and Documentation of the University of Barcelona. The results shows the location of data in tables is easier in HTML documents through the inclusion of a contents list linked to these tables. Further, the inclusion of complete tables in the body of HTML document facilitates the reading activity of blind users. At the methodological level, this work reports two novelties with respect to the existing literature on usability by blind people: it examines the usability of the PDF format, and discusses a quantitative usability test. The latter hinders comparison with the majority of published articles.

Distribució de bases de dades en el web amb Knosys Internet

No hi ha dubte que actualment el web és el sistema de distribució de bases de dades documentals que més s'està utilitzant i el que té majors perspectives de futur. El motiu és senzill: l'usuari que consulta la base de dades només cal que disposi d'un navegador i, aleshores, pot accedir als registres de forma actualitzada disposant pràcticament de totes les prestacions de consulta que tenen els sistemes de gestió documental, no necessita instal·lar al seu ordinador cap versió client del programa que gestiona la base de dades, sinó que tan sols ha d'indicar la seva petició dins d'un formulari html per tal de rebre les respostes també en aquest format.

Revistes electròniques, comunicació científica i biblioteques

El recent auge de les revistes científiques electròniques va tenir els seus inicis quan les biblioteques van començar a tenir accés a la World Wide Web (WWW) a mitjan dels noranta. El canvi del paper al suport digital ha afectat l'alineament i el paper tradicionals dels principals implicats, bàsicament autors, editors, universitats i biblioteques. L'autora ofereix una breu anàlisi de la història de la revista científica, seguida de l'evolució de les revistes electròniques durant les dues darreres dècades. L'article se centra aleshores en les implicacions que aquestes han tingut en els processos i serveis tradicionals de la biblioteca, com ara selecció, adquisicions, catalogació, emmagatzematge, preservació i serveis a l'usuari. A la conclusió, l'autora especula sobre l'efecte que l'edició en el web pot tenir a llarg termini sobre el format que la revista científica ha presentat des de fa més de 300 anys.

Electronic journals, scholarly communication and libraries

The recent surge in scientific electronic journals began when libraries began having access to the WWW in the mid-1990s. The shift from paper to digital has affected the traditional alignment and role of the primary "stakeholders" -mainly authors, publishers, universities and libraries. The author offers a brief review of the history of the scholarly journal followed by the evolution of e-journals in during the past two decades. The article then focuses on the implications that these have had on traditional library processes and services such as selection, acquisitions, cataloguing, storage, preservation and user services. In the conclusion the author speculates on the long term effect of Web-based publishing on the format of the traditional scholarly journal as it has existed for over 300 years.

Webs sempre accessibles: les biblioteques nacionals i els dipòsits digitals nacionals

The response was immediate and since the decade of the 1990s different projects have been designed to guarantee permanent access to the digital production -retrieval, storage, handling, preservation and dissemination. This article presents an international overview of existing models of national digital repositories, a name given to these projects that are normally generated by national libraries with a common objective: ensuring that web pages are always accessible.

Els fons i les col·leccions d'arxiu a les biblioteques: models per al seu control i accés

Second, we focus on the techniques used in library environments to describe archive materials and collections and to guarantee their accessibility. We examine the models used in the United States and the United Kingdom to describe and access these materials, and the cooperative projects launched in these two countries in the past few years. Finally, we offer a preliminary analysis of how these types of materials are currently dealt with in Catalan libraries, and issue some recommendations to improve their archiving and access.

Introducción de la semipresencialidad en el grado de Información y Documentación: evolucionando con la sociedad

[spa] El curso 2011-2012 se inicia la introducción de la semipresencialidad en el grado de Información y Documentación de la Facultad de Biblioteconomía y Documentación de la Universidad de Barcelona. Se ofrecen todas las asignaturas de primer curso en este formato para un grupo de 30 alumnos. La planificación ha supuesto la determinación de las condiciones y el grado de presencialidad, la creación del material docente de las asignaturas en un campus virtual y el establecimiento de indicadores y mecanismos de seguimiento y evaluación. Los primeros resultados apuntan diferencias importantes respecto al seguimiento de la titulación en formato presencial.
