In a context where the lack of male teachers is constructed as a worrying concern for many Western education systems, men who make the decision to become teachers, particularly in early childhood and primary education, are often adulated. However, alongside this adulation sits an expectation to be a ‘real man’. This paper tells the story of John, a male primary school teacher who left the teaching profession after one year as a result of incommensurable differences between the expectations held of him as a male teacher and his identity as a primary school teacher. While not an attempt to position John as a victim, this paper suggests that expectations of male teachers, such as to be effective disciplinarians, have normalising effects on men within the teaching profession that, in this case, led to a rejection of teaching as a career path. We contend that the image of the ‘imagined male teacher’ that underpins both current calls for more male teachers and John’s departure from schooling is likely to have a negative impact upon all students (boys and girls) and also denigrates the work of female teachers.

Discovering frequent patterns plays an essential role in many data mining applications. The aim of frequent patterns is to obtain the information about the most common patterns that appeared together. However, designing an efficient model to mine these patterns is still demanding due to the capacity of current database size. Therefore, we propose an Efficient Frequent Pattern Mining Model (EFP-M2) to mine the frequent patterns in timely manner. The result shows that the algorithm in EFP-M2l is outperformed at least at 2 orders of magnitudes against the benchmarked FP-Growth.

Food fortification takes many forms. The example discussed here is unusual, because in many countries now it is required by law: the fortification of flour with the B vitamin folic acid, or MFFFA for short. Voluntary fortification of various food products was first used to help prevent and control child and maternal anaemia associated with folate deficiency (1). In the mid-1990s, policy-makers in various countries began considering using mandatory fortification under a novel policy paradigm, that fortification was needed to increase the folic acid intake and protect the health status of people who had a special requirement for this nutrient, irrespective of the folate status of the population as a whole.

This chapter explores the possible ontological questions and epistemological propositions that arise from detailed empirical research into cinema closures. Repeated pronouncements of the ‘Death of Cinema’ in the wake of technological, social and industrial change serve to reinforce the coincidence of ‘death’ with a type of ‘closure’. The evocation of a ‘crisis’ in the cinema is ordinarily articulated within the terms of specific cultural concerns around transience and transformation in the social experience of the cinema. However, rather than adding another chapter to the apocalyptic historiography of the cinema this paper proposes instead the constitutive importance of ‘closure’ as a critical tool for rethinking our defining assumptions about cinema(s). Specifically, the chapter will demonstrate how the conceptual granularity entailed in the development of a detailed database of venue openings and closings (the Cinema and Audiences in Australia Project database) can in turn lead to a fundamental reconsideration of the ontology of the cinema itself.

Content authenticity and correctness is one of the important challenges in eLearning as there can be many solutions for one specific problem in the cyber space. Therefore, we feel the necessity of mapping problem to solutions using graph partition and weighted bipartite matching. This paper presents a novel architecture and methodology for a personal eLearning system called PELS that is developed by us. We also present an efficient algorithm to partition question-answer (QA) space and explore best possible solution to a particular problem. Our approach can be efficiently applied to social eLearning space where there is one-to-many and many-to-many relationship with a level of bonding. The main advantage of our approach is that we use QA ranking by adjusted edge weights provided by subject matter experts (SME) or expert database. Finally, we use statistical methods called confidence interval and hypothesis test on the data to check the reliability and dependability of the quality of results.
