Serviço social e consultoria empresarial: uma possibilidade de intervenção crítica?

Esta tese consiste no estudo e sistematização dos resultados da pesquisa desenvolvida no curso de doutorado da Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, acerca da nova alocação, externa aos quadros de trabalhadores das instituições, através de empresas que intermediam esses serviços, denominadas de consultoria, por assistentes sociais, entre outros da área de recursos humanos, para prestação de serviços. Esta denominação é criticada, por diferir do sentido original desta atividade, uma vez que a concepção de consultoria adotada na tese supõe que esta competência tem o objetivo de qualificação do trabalho a ser desempenhado. Compreende um nível de profissional com maior conhecimento especializado, possibilitando formular análises, pareceres, planos e proposições sobre situações de trabalho. No caso do projeto profissional hegemônico do Serviço Social, o seu trabalho deve ser orientado com vistas à ampliação dos direitos dos trabalhadores. O que as empresas tem chamado de consultoria, na realidade tem se configurado principalmente como expressão do trabalho precário terceirizado e as vezes informal, com incidências nas formas de contratação do Serviço Social e no desenvolvimento do seu trabalho. O objetivo central desta tese consiste em verificar os caminhos que essa profissão vem trilhando por meio das denominadas consultorias e identificar se estes apontam para a consolidação do projeto ético-político profissional pela categoria ou se eles estão contribuindo para afastá-lo desse projeto, diante das condições de trabalho e de outros elementos no espaço sócio-ocupacional da chamada consultoria empresarial. Os resultados da pesquisa indicam que, com a substituição de profissionais contratados por outros subcontratados, terceirizados ou quarteirizados, como vem ocorrendo nas empresas pesquisadas, a prestação dos seus serviços tende a sofrer um retrocesso diante dos avanços alcançados pela profissão.

On the relative efficiency of different shaped otter boards

Rectangular, horizontal curved and oval otter boards were tested under identical fishing conditions and their relative efficiency ascertained on the basis of towing tension and the horizontal opening of the boards. While the tension in the warps with the different otter boards was not significant, the horizontal curved board gave increased lateral spread to the net.

On the relative catch efficiency of different shaped otter boards in bottom trawling

Three different types of otter boards varying in shape were tried to find out their relative catch efficiency. They were operated with two types of nets. The results indicated that the curved otter boards gave more catch per unit effort with all the combinations of nets and riggings tried.

The design and construction of flat rectangular otter boards for bottom trawling: a review

The design and construction of the otter board is a subject of great importance for economy in trawling. This review incorporates a historical resume tracing the change and development• of otter boards. The size of the otter board and its relationship with the horse power of the engine and size of the net and the methods of rigging are dealt with. The factors influencing the horizontal spread are discussed. The effect of the angles of attack, heel and tilt and the ground reaction on the force coefficients have been reviewed and discussed with particular reference to flat rectangular otter boards used for bottom trawling. A short account of other designs of otter boards used for improved efficiency is given. Suggestion for improving the efficacy of otter boards based on the work hitherto done has been made. The contributions relating to the various aspects of design and performance of trawl boards carried out till 1969 have been considered.

Results of comparative fishing trials with rectangular flat and rectangular curved otter boards

The communication deals with the results of comparative fishing operations conducted to study the effectiveness of rectangular flat and rectangular curved otter boards. Based on the analysis of data gathered during the course of actual field trials, following conclusions have been drawn: the average catch per hour of trawling was more by 22 kg during attachment of rectangular curved otter boards. The average horizontal spread between rectangular curved otter boards in action was more by 13% and works out to 50% of the head-rope length of the net including sweeps. The towing resistance of the gear with horizontally curved otter boards was more by 10%.

Further investigations on the relative efficiency of different shaped otter boards

Horizontal curved, vertical curved and V-shaped otter boards were studied to compare their relative efficiency under identical fishing conditions. The gear operated with V-shaped otter boards performed well followed by the gear fitted with horizontal curved boards. Vertical curved boards were found to be comparatively less efficient, but with slight modification, can be used advantageously for bottom and off bottom fishes. Fishing at various depths with horizontal curved and V-shaped otter boards at different scope ratios showed better performance of horizontal curved boards at a scope ratio of 1:6 and V-shaped otter boards at a scope ratio of 1:5.

Thermal insulation boards from coconut pith

Processing technique and physical characteristics of thermal insulation boards prepared from coconut pith using rubber latex as the binding agent are reported in this communication. In view of the easy processing, low cost and comparable physical properties with other insulating materials available indigenously, manufacture of these boards appears to be promising.

Effect of weight of otter boards on the horizontal opening of trawl nets

The paper gives briefly the experiments carried out to determine the optimum weight of otter board that should be used for a trawl gear for better efficiency.

On the comparative efficiency of "V" shaped and rectangular flat otter boards for trawling off Veraval, north west coast of India

V shaped all steel boards, with their inherent stability to tide over obstacles and mud, interchangeability of starboard and portside boards are found to be superior to conventional flat rectangular boards for bottom trawling. These are cheaper in construction, offer less resistance and give longer service. Comparative trials with the two types of boards showed significant difference in tension between the boards but not in catch or horizontal opening.

Malaysian school engages in bullfrog and turtle farming

A brief description is given of the culture methods used in the Sepang Today Aquaculture Centre, a private aquafarming training school in Malaysia, regarding American bullfrog (Rana catesbeiana) and the soft-shelled turtle (Trionyx sinensis). Seed production, grow-out, marketing and future potential are discussed, referring to the school s training brochures for both culture methods.

A probabilistic energy model for non-domestic building sectors applied to analysis of school buildings in greater London

The diversity of non-domestic buildings at urban scale poses a number of difficulties to develop models for large scale analysis of the stock. This research proposes a probabilistic, engineering-based, bottom-up model to address these issues. In a recent study we classified London's non-domestic buildings based on the service they provide, such as offices, retail premise, and schools, and proposed the creation of one probabilistic representational model per building type. This paper investigates techniques for the development of such models. The representational model is a statistical surrogate of a dynamic energy simulation (ES) model. We first identify the main parameters affecting energy consumption in a particular building sector/type by using sampling-based global sensitivity analysis methods, and then generate statistical surrogate models of the dynamic ES model within the dominant model parameters. Given a sample of actual energy consumption for that sector, we use the surrogate model to infer the distribution of model parameters by inverse analysis. The inferred distributions of input parameters are able to quantify the relative benefits of alternative energy saving measures on an entire building sector with requisite quantification of uncertainties.
