A crescente camada de população idosa que reside em Trás-os-Montes e no Douro e a prevalência de doenças crónicas e incapacitantes, conduz ao aumento do número de pessoas dependentes de cuidados, assim como de uma terceira pessoa que auxilie na satisfação das suas atividades de vida diária. A criação da Rede Nacional de Cuidados Continuados é uma mais-valia constituindo uma resposta adequada a pessoas que se encontram em situação de dependência, assim como aos seus familiares. Face à antevisão de alta da unidade e consequente regresso a casa, o cuidador familiar é, por vezes, assoberbado com múltiplas dúvidas e inseguranças, pelo que, merecem ser compreendidos. Com o objetivo de compreender vivências, sentimentos e expetativas que caraterizam o período que rodeia a alta do familiar da Unidade de Cuidados Continuados onde esteve internado desenvolveu-se o presente estudo que, face ao tipo de problemática a estudar, fez recurso da metodologia qualitativa, enveredando-se pela abordagem fenomenológica. Com base num guião de entrevista, inquiriram-se sete cuidadores informais que tinham, ou tiveram anteriormente, familiares internados numa Unidade de Cuidados Continuados. Perante a eminência da alta os cuidadores informais vivenciam um momento difícil que requer adaptação ao seu novo papel. A prestação de cuidados é uma tarefa exigente, contribuindo para uma ambivalência de sentimentos mencionada pelos participantes do estudo. Os sentimentos positivos traduzem-se em amor e gratificação, enquanto os sentimentos negativos estão relacionados com o medo, ansiedade e insegurança, face ao ato de cuidar. As redes de apoio informal/formal, manifestadas por apoio técnico, psicológico, financeiro e a necessidade de formação são fatores fundamentais, revelados pelos cuidadores informais do estudo. As expetativas referidas pelos participantes do estudo face às Unidades de Cuidados Continuados são: a adequação dos cuidados à situação da pessoa, promoção da autonomia e a humanização dos cuidados em saúde.

Background: Autoimmune encephalitis (AE) occurs in response to an antibody-mediated central nervous system disease and can lead to significant neurodisability. Prior research on family adjustment has described a reciprocal relationship between caregiver functioning, distress and clinical outcome in parents and children with encephalitis. There has been no previous research exploring the experiences of caregivers with a child with AE. Aims: To explore the perspectives of parents and/or caregivers with a child diagnosed with AE regarding (i) their own adjustment from hospital admission to post-discharge, and (ii) their experiences of care and service provision. Methods: A purposive sampling approach was used. Five parents of children with AE participated in a semi-structured interview exploring their experiences of caring for their child and service provision during acute care and post-discharge. Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) was used to analyse the transcripts. Main findings and conclusions: Four shared super-ordinate themes with related subthemes emerged: (a) uncertainty, (b) managing our recovery, (c) changes in my child, (d) experiences of service provision. Participants reported emotional distress, often underpinned by recurrent experiences of uncertainty, and ‘loss’ of the previous child, and mediated by coping strategies and social support. While an overall positive experience of inpatient services was reported, parents often perceived post-discharge services as lacking in co-ordination, communication and formal follow-up, resulting in unmet support needs. Implications and recommendations for services, practitioners and future research are discussed.

The present thesis aimed at understanding how the insertion of music in the work environment contributes to achieving Quality of Work Life. - QWL, under the perspective of biopsychosocial and organizational well-being. As to music insertion we considered the theoretical-empirical perception about how music is inserted at work and its functions on such place. The context where the study was taken was the manufacturing area of a major textile company, located in Natal, state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, in which music is used during labor activities. The only study case was the research strategy adopted, with exploratory and descriptive purposes. The primary data were collected through the focus group technique, applied to the collaborator in the manufacturing sector. The semi-structured interview was done as a complementary tool, directed to the supervisor in that sector. Respecting the theoretical saturation criterion, we formed four focus groups, each one composed of eight members randomly selected, among the seventy-six collaborators in the sector. The data were analyzed qualitatively, through the content analysis technique, more specifically the category analysis. We identified twenty-eight QWL attributes. Six of them were found present in the four focus groups and in the interview. Among these ones, the attribute of Interpersonal Relationship at Work, contemplating the Psychological and Organizational dimensions, was the only one anticipated in four out of fifteen theoretical models here listed. The attribute Music at Work Environment could be inserted in the four QWL dimensions, highlighting the power and relevance of this attribute for the research participants. The way music has been inserted in the labor environment contributes to promoting well-being at work, which goes against theoretical conceptions, especially when it comes to musical genre. We identified nine functions of music at work, among which, Improving Work Conditions, Improving Interpersonal Relationship at Work and Favoring Motivation for Work had to be emphasized for being associated to three QWL attributes. In the total, we highlighted seven associations. The most affected QWL dimension through the insertion of music at work was the Psychological one, followed by the Organizational one. We conclude that music insertion provides biological, social and, above all, psychological and organizational well-being to the contributors, thus contributing to obtaining QWL at the labor environment researched. However, we should consider the context and proceed to periodical plans and adjustments in the way of music insertion so as to avoid health and well-being problems to those people at work

Objectives. Recent literature indicates variance in psychosocial treatment preferences for negative symptoms of schizophrenia. Attempts at defining therapeutic aims and outcomes for negative symptoms to date have not included major stakeholder groups. The aim of the present study was to address this gap through qualitative methods. Design. Thematic Analysis was applied to qualitative semi-structured interview data to gather the opinions of people who experience negative symptoms, carers, and healthcare professionals. Participants were recruited from two mental health sites (inpatient/community) to increase generalisability of results. Ten people participated in the research. Methods. Semi-structured interview scripts were designed utilising evidence from the review in Chapter 1 of effective psychosocial intervention components for specific negative symptoms. Interviews were audio recorded and transcribed verbatim. Thematic analysis was employed to analyse data. Results. A common theme across groups was the need for a personalised approach to intervention for negative symptoms. Other themes indicated different opinions in relation to treatment targets and the need for a sensitive and graded approach to all aspects of therapy. This approach needs to be supported across systemic levels of organisation with specific training needs for staff addressed. Conclusions. There is disparity in treatment preferences for negative symptoms across major stakeholders. The findings suggest an individualised approach to intervention of negative symptoms that is consistent with recovery. Implementation barriers and facilitators were identified and discussed. There remains a need to develop a better understanding of treatment preferences for patients.

Background: Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) management often worsens as children become adolescents. This can be a difficult time for parents as they hand over responsibility of diabetes management to their adolescent. Objectives: To look at the experiences of parents with a child with T1D as they move to adolescence and take more responsibility for their diabetes management. To find out about parents’ experience of support during this transition. Subjects: Three parents of adolescents with T1D. Participants were recruited from the NHS Highland Paediatric Diabetes Service. Methods: Participants took part in a one-to-one semi-structured interview with a researcher. Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis was used to analyse the interviews and find common themes across the interviews. Results: Participants experienced worry throughout their child’s transition to adolescence. They found it difficult to let their child take responsibility for their diabetes but acknowledged that their involvement caused tensions with their adolescent. Participants’ experience was that there were a number of practical adjustments to be made with a diagnosis of T1D and educating the network around their child was important. The participants reported that the diagnosis of T1D had an impact on the whole family and not just the child with the diagnosis. The parents felt well supported medically but said that the amount of time before their first clinic appointment felt too long. All participants had concerns about their adolescent moving to the adult diabetic service. Conclusions: Participants experienced worry relating to aspects of their adolescents T1D that they could not control, but were aware of the tensions caused by trying to keep elements of control. Areas of future research were identified.

Introdução: A evolução da ciência e tecnologia, as mudanças no seio das organizações de saúde, as novas e emergentes filosofias de cuidados, exigem dos profissionais de saúde uma participação ativa na formação dos seus pares, tendo o processo de supervisão clínica uma importância relevante. Objetivos: Identificar a perceção dos enfermeiros tutores especialistas sobre as competências do supervisor clínico na área de saúde infantil e pediatria. Métodos: Estudo qualitativo exploratório descritivo, fenomenológico, numa amostra de dez enfermeiros tutores dos serviços da área de pediatria do Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça, SESARAM. Recorremos à entrevista semiestruturada e áudio gravada. Efetuámos análise de conteúdo ao “corpus” de todas as entrevistas, com definição de subcategorias e indicadores. Resultados:. Emergiu a categoria competências do supervisor clínico e as subcategorias mais referenciadas foram as caraterísticas pessoais com 38% de unidade de registo e as competências profissionais (25,7%). Nos aspetos relevantes em saúde infantil e pediatria destacaram-se também as competências pessoais e profissionais com 40,4% cada. O principal fator facilitador da supervisão foi o ser um processo estruturado (21,6%), e o dificultador foi o deficit no relacionamento interpessoal (21,7%). No global houve mais unidades de registo relacionadas com os aspetos dificultadores. Conclusão: Conscientes das perceções dos supervisores numa área tão específica como é a área de saúde infantil e pediatria, pensamos que este estudo poderá contribuir para melhorar a qualidade do processo supervisivo na enfermagem. É necessário o esforço conjunto entre o supervisor e supervisionado, melhorando os processos mediados entre as instituições e os atores, onde proliferam a partilha de saberes, experiências e objetivos profissionais. A realização desta pesquisa visa, essencialmente, explorar a interacção que as pessoas desenvolvem com os espaços físicos e sociais, ou seja, com o espaço ambiental. Assim, e a partir do ponto de vista da Psicologia Ambiental enquanto disciplina que integra o quadro conceptual da Ecologia Humana, procurámos conhecer a simbologia da vivência do espaço ambiental num serviço de obstetrícia, no contexto do parto, tendo definido como objectivo para a nossa investigação: "Descrever as vivências de parturientes, no decurso do nascimento de seus filhos, em particular no que concerne à interacção da pessoa com o ambiente físico e social". O enquadramento do tema foi traçado a partir de abordagens da Psicologia Ambiental que procuram investigar a interacção entre a pessoa e o ambiente físico e social. Depositámos o nosso interesse na concepção teórica de Roger Barker e partimos para o conhecimento da referida interacção num cenário comportamental, que neste estudo é a sala de partos. Recolhemos a opinião de 12 mulheres, que se disponibilizaram para participar, através de uma entrevista parcialmente estruturada. Os discursos recolhidos foram analisados com vista à construção de categorias que nos permitissem conhecer a experiência das parturientes enquanto utilizadoras temporárias de um espaço institucional com características particulares como é uma sala de partos. A análise dos discursos das participantes acerca da experiência do nascimento dos seus filhos deixou patente a interacção com o espaço ambiental permitindo recolher alguma informação interessante proveniente da sua influência na vivência do nascimento. No final, o que emana do estudo realizado é a convicção de que as relações interpessoais ocupam um papel destacado no panorama de um cenário comportamental, o que nos remete para a importância da promoção duma conduta profissional mais esclarecida e humanizante. Foi também esse o objectivo com que procurámo explorar o fenómeno e deixar algumas pistas nesta área ainda pouco investigada. ABSTRACT; This research looks, essentially, to acknowledge people interaction in a given physical setting, from Human Ecology's point of view. Thus, and from the point of view of environmental psychology as a discipline that integrates the conceptual framework of Human Ecology, we became interested in understanding the environmental space experience symbology in the birth context, in an obstetrics service. We were interested to know the experience of women as protagonists in the birth of their children, and the interaction they developed with the environment during hospitalization in the delivery room. Thus, we define as an objective: "Describe the experiences of the parturients, during the birth of their children, particularly in what concerns to the interaction between person and physical and social environment". The framework of the theme was drawn from environmental psychology approaches that seek to investigate the interaction between the person and the physical and social environment. We have our interest in the theoretical design of Roger Barker and left for the knowledge of that interaction in a behavioral scenario, which, in this study, is the delivery room. We collected the views of 12 informants who agreed to participate, through a partially structured interview. The results analysis was obtained through the dismantling of speech and significance links assignment. Understanding the experience was achieved through the analysis of the categories identified retrospectively, according to the subject that originated the approach. The survey, as we designed it, revealed us, in the context of the environmental space interaction, woman's point of view, as a temporarily user of an institutional space with special characteristics. ln the end, what comes from this study is the belief that interpersonal relationships play a prominent role in the panorama of a behavioral scenario, conducting us to the importance of promoting a more informed and humanizing professional conduct. This was also our objective as we tried to explore the phenomenon, leaving some clues in this area still poorly investigated.

Presenteeism consists in going to work without conditions to produce, which can have a much higher impact than absenteeism on the productivity of an organisation. Presenteeism translates in both physical as psychological perturbations. It is a difficult to quantify reality, as is its translation into direct and indirect costs within the organisation. Our goal was to analyse the effects of presenteeism on the productivity of a company in the food-procession sector through a descriptive and transversal study of exploratory nature. The Stanford Presenteeism Scale SPS-6 (validated by Ferreira et al, 2010) and a semi-structured interview were used. Most of the workers referred having already gone to work feeling ill at least two days in the last year, mentioning that their health condition affected their performance, made them feel desperate and lacking pleasure from work. Management mentioned that presenteeism has a direct impact on productivity without, however, being able to quantify the true costs. Presenteeism is a reality in organisational scenarios, exceling in the educational and health sectors. We underline the importance of making organisations aware of the psychosocial risks and the importance of having healthy leaderships, work stress control and the presence of clinical psychologists and professional coaches.

O presente relatório surgiu da nossa investigação e da nossa praxis tanto no contexto da Prática de Ensino Supervisionada em Educação Pré-Escolar, como em Ensino do 1º Ciclo do Ensino Básico, em instituições da cidade de Évora. O principal objetivo foi compreender a finalidade e funcionalidade atribuída pelas crianças à aprendizagem da leitura e da escrita. Neste sentido, foi construído um referencial teórico que sustentou todo o processo de investigação. Desta forma, considero fundamental, contextualizar de forma breve, os ambientes educativos e a conceção da ação educativa que regeu a minha prática. O presente relatório foi construído com base na investigação-ação, levando assim, à utilização de algumas técnicas e instrumentos de recolha de dados, de forma a atingir os objetivos propostos. Ao longo da investigação procurei promover o desenvolvimento da leitura e da escrita, por parte das crianças, no contexto educativo, bem como, promover uma exploração da língua portuguesa articulada com os diversos domínios curriculares. Os resultados que surgiram deste trabalho veem evidenciar que as crianças já apresentam diversos conhecimentos acerca do que é a leitura e a escrita, bem como a sua funcionalidade. Por outro lado, é notória a separação entre a educação pré-escolar e o 1º Ciclo do Ensino Básico, no sentido em que, no primeiro contexto, as crianças apresentam um papel central na aprendizagem, pois tudo é realizado com base nos seus interesses e necessidades, ao passo que, no segundo contexto, as atividades são planeadas para as crianças, mas elas não são participantes nesses processos. Assim, este relatório encontra-se organizado em quatro capítulos. O primeiro capítulo refere-se à fundamentação teórica que sustenta a investigação do tema. O segundo capítulo encontra-se relacionado com a conceção da ação educativa, na qual são apresentados os contextos onde desenvolvi a minha prática. No terceiro capítulo encontra-se a metodologia aplicada ao longo da PES, tendo por base a questão do educador/professor-investigador, bem como a análise, interpretação dos dados obtidos através da entrevista individual semiestruturada e respetivas conclusões. Por fim, no quarto capítulo tecerei implicações e investigações futuras acerca do estudo realizado; Supervised Teaching Practice in Pre-School Education and Teaching of the 1st Basic Education: Learning reading and writing in early childhood (from 3 to 10 years old) Abstract: This report emerged from our research and our praxis both in the context of Supervised Teaching Practice in Pre-School Education, as in teaching of the 1st Cycle of Basic Education in some institutions of the city of Évora. The main objective was to understand the purpose and function assigned by the learners to reading and writing. In this sense, a theoretical framework was created which underpinned the whole process of investigation. In this way, I consider fundamental to contextualize briefly the educational environments and the design of the educational action that conducted my practice. This report was built on the basis of research–action leading to the use of some techniques and tools for data collection in order to achieve the proposed objectives. Throughout the investigation I tried to promote the development of reading and writing by children in the educational context, as well as to promote an exploration of the Portuguese language in conjunction with the diverse curricular areas. The results that have emerged from this work prove that children have already a wide knowledge about what reading and writing are as well as its functionality. On the other hand, it is evident the separation of pre-school education from the first cycle of basic education in the sense that, in the first context, the children have a central role in learning, because everything is done based on their interests and needs, while in the second context activities are planned for the children, but they do not participate in those processes. Thus, this report is organized into four chapters. The first chapter refers to the theoretical background that supports research on the theme. The second chapter is related to the design of educational activity, which presents the contexts where I developed my practice. The third chapter presents the methodology applied along the PES based on the issue of educator/teacher-researcher, as well as the analysis, interpretation of data obtained through the individual semi-structured interview and the corresponding conclusions. Finally, in the fourth chapter I will discuss the implications and the future investigations about the study performed.

The treatments involved in cancers of the blood and bone marrow can be physically and psychologically challenging and be associated with adverse secondary effects, including cognitive impairment. The incidence and severity of treatment-related cognitive impairment varies widely, however it can significantly impact quality of life by interfering with patients’ activities of daily living, relationships and future plans. It can also pose challenges for the patients’ caregivers, an area which has received comparatively less research attention. The aim of this study was to investigate caregivers’ experiences of treatment-related cognitive impairment in patients who have undergone Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT); how they coped, both practically and emotionally, and what supports they believe could help them. Participants were caregivers to individuals who had undergone HSCT within the past 20 years and who had reported cognitive changes at the HSCT Late Effects Clinic, Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. Five participants completed a single semi-structured interview. The data was then analysed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Results of this analysis illustrated four super-ordinate themes: noticing change; managing expectations, managing personal feelings and commitment. Findings from the current study highlighted the importance of caregiver education regarding post HSCT cognitive and behavioural changes and providing caregiver emotional support. Future research should explore the mutual needs of both care recipient and caregiver.

The current paper aims at analyzing customer retention in Internet provider services. For this study, we sought to understand what are the client's expectations regarding the services available and compare them with management perception in relation to the use of those services. Identifying the coherence level between the two points of view, management and client, it is possible to pinpoint how service is assessed in real conditions. Then, from this point on, a new vision can be implemented on available services, and new customer service strategies aiming at best serving to their expectation and need, can be rethought. The exploratory research was utilized. It was based on case study, and quantitative and qualitative methods were used. The quantitative method was done by applying the cluster technique with six variables of control derived from the six main services, whose definition was done through qualitative survey of the internal management team. Then, an structured interview with 443 clients, from a probabilistic sample of 800 costumers. The total number of active clients of the internet provider is of 10.677. Client perception in relation to services varied, if compared with the four services that were under the managerial metric method, this comparison showed a more positive evaluation than the real use of the service. Thus, it was observed that the value of each service available for the client depends on his/her perception of it, regardless of using or not the offered service. As a result, it is possible to understand which services offered by the company under study effectively contribute to a good client-company relationship, and the upkeep of those clients

The theme Corporate Social Responsibility is relatively recent both in the academic field and in the business practice. Because of the lack of socialization of experiences and precision of concepts, there are gaps regarding the understanding of the subject and, also, how to conduct operations. This study just seeks to investigate such matter, focusing applications of social responsibility in business. It takes, as empirical field, winners of the PSQT - SESI Prize of Quality at Work in Rio Grande do Norte (2002-2007) in order to systematize the various approaches on the issue, aiming to reveal subjective visions and perspectives of the theme. It is characterized as a qualitative study, carried out by structured interview. The universe was composed by 15 companies. It was used analysis of content categorical as an axis for the interpretation of the information. Three approaches guided the analysis: Business Ethics, (normative); Business & Society (contractual); Social Issues Management (strategic). The findings are related in three ways: 1) reasons for the CSR practice; 2) the results obtained; 3) the means of CSR. It was found that the award participation occurs, mostly, linked to SESI invitations, so, as an articulated movement of industrial corporations in Brazil it occurs, also, because of the organizational commitment with the society and the possibility of internal and social growths and because of the importance attributed to the report as an instrument of consultancy. There are no indicators to check impacts of organizational interventions, in spite of the existence of planning for the actions. Social responsibility appears as a tool to reinforce the organizational image and to increase satisfaction of the employees. There is a tendency of large and medium firms to a contractual commitment while the small and the micros firms are on strategic or normative level. The analysis of the perspectives of social responsibility future revealed trends towards for strategic approach

This study aims to understand the effects of the mobile marketing use as a relationships tool for companies that operate locally, because of the lack of information about this new marketing tool, as well as the scarcity of studies in this area. This is an exploratory and qualitatively study, based on primary sources, raised through books, articles in the marketing area and the telecommunications industry organs as well as secondary sources. With the purpose to look into the issue, a semi-structured interview is made with the companies managers of the sectors of trade and services in Natal-RN. The advances in technology allow an important discussion focused on the marketing in the new communication technologies scenario. It appears that the mobile marketing adoption and use by local companies is already a reality and companies are awake to changes and technological innovations accessible, especially the mobile telephony as well as convergence with other media. There is, however, that the use of technologies offered by mobile marketing is still limited to the sending of text messages (SMS), despite the numerous possibilities of it use. Moreover, the results obtained with mobile marketing use show that companies can identify them, but there is no effective monitoring in quantity and financial terms. Only affect sales growth and support for progress in loyalty with customers. It shows up that the mentality of not measuring the results still in the plan of changes and technological innovations. The data allow saying that the mobile marketing is a reality, however has not yet signed as a tool for carrying out campaigns and marketing tool for loyalty of customers, despite presenting a wide range of possibilities to streamline and make more effective the marketing businesses process
