Four new species of Periscelididae are described from Brazil - Neoscutops cariri, sp. n., and Scutops marcgrafi sp. n., from the northern extreme of the Atlantic Forest, S. lopesi, sp. n., from southeastern Brazil, and S. goianiensis, from central Brazil. S. chapmani is herein synonymezed to S. fascipennis. A key is provided for the known species of Neoscutops and Scutops. A brief discussion is made about the possiblem phylogenetic relationships among the species of each of these two genera.

With the purpose of maiking easier the determination of the physiological age of Stomosys calcitrans population, a classification based on the oocitary developtment and number of ovipositions was proposed. Female were reared under laboratory conditions, in individual cages and maintained in the presence of male for copulation. On the proper time, ovary and oviduct were removed and the stage of development was observed. Adult female were classified as: 1-New emerged female, 2 - Young nuliparous female, 3 - Old nuliparous female, 4 - Uniparousfemale, 5 - Two or three ovipositions times female, and 6 - Multiparous female.

Nine genera and 16 species of Chilean Voriini Tachinid flies are reported in this paper, with a key to differentiate them, a list of recorded species, its geographic distibution within the country and known hosts. The examined examples belong and are deposited at the Collection of Insects of the Instituto de Entomología (UMCE), Santiago. Neochaetoplagia pastranai Blanchard, 1963, from Argentina, and Velardemyia ica Valencia, 1972, from Perú, are reported as present in Chile, while Nothovoria praestans n. gen. & sp., is described as a new monotypic genus.

The predation and phoretic association (occasional?) among simulids and mollusks are being registered here for the first time on the Neotropical region. These inter-relations observations were obtained among Asolene (Pomella) megastoma (Sowerby, 1825) and the simulids: Simulium (Thyrsopelma) Orbitale Lutz, 1910; Simulium (Psaroniocompsa) spp. The material studied is proceeding from the Uruguai river Hidrological Basin. Based on the mollusks natural habitat, it is here suggested his use as a possible integrated management element for simulids species which immature stages live on mighty river with rocks.

A key is given for the identification of females of all Holarctic species included into this genus, and keys are provided for distinguishing third instar larvae and puparia of two Palaeartic species. In addition to these, the description of the A. monachae (Kr.) female has been expanded.

This paper describes some results of a systematic survey of the Ceratopogonidae midges of the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Three species, Stilobezzia punctulata Lane, 1947, Heteromyia chaquensis Duret & Lane, 1955 and Dasyhelea paulistana Forattini & Rabello, 1957 were identified from a small lake, "Lagoinha" or "Olhos d'Água", near to the main lake of Lagoa Santa. The first descriptions of the males of Heteromyia chaquensis and Dasyhelea paulistana are presented.

Based on type examination, Culex (Melanoconion) theobaldi (Lutz, 1904) is redescribed. The species Cx. (Mel.) chrysonotum Dyar & Knab, 1908, was put back as synonym of theobaldi. Besides, examination of Cx. (Mel.) chrysothorax (Newstead & Thomas, 1910) type, leads to retiring as synonym of theobaldi and considered it as "species inquirenda".

Along 24 consecutive months, from January 1984 to December 1986, mosquito captures were performed in a rural area of said municipality. Aiming to evaluate the comparative frequency of the mosquito species inside houses and in the immediate vicinity and far from houses, the captures were made in two types of domiciles - one permanently and the other only sporadically inhabited - as well as in surrounding woods. Variations in temperature, relative humidity and rainfall were locally recorded. A tendency for domiciliation became evident by the presence of Aedes scapularis in the human domiciles, mainly in those permantely inhabited. Culex quinquefasciatus showed to be adapted to live with humans also in rural areas, in which, in some instances, insecticides had to be used to keep in under control. Such observations, mainly in terms of Ae. scapularis, reinforce the possibility of those mosquitoes, under favourable conditions, becoming carries of arboviroses to humans in rural environments.

The subfamily Rogenhoferinae stat. nov. (Diptera, Cuterebridae) is revised. Two genera are recognized: Rogenhofera Brauer (Type-species, trigonophora Brauer) and Andinocutereba Guimarães (Type-species, fassleri Guimarães). Five species are recorded in Rogenhofera, one R. lopesi is described as new. Key to species, illustrations and distribution are presented.
