A presente pesquisa teve como objetivo principal compreender os processos que conduzem à produção da exploração sexual comercial de adolescentes na sociedade contemporânea. Realizamos uma análise da literatura da área e um estudo de campo, que contou com a participação de 14 adolescentes do sexo feminino, que se encontravam em situação de prostituição. Foram utilizados como procedimentos metodológicos: aplicação de questionários-entrevista, realização de entrevistas abertas, observações e informações de educadoras sociais. Elaboramos o perfil sócio-demográfico das adolescentes e suas famílias e criamos categorias temáticas expressivas dos conteúdos identificados. Constatamos que na produção do fenômeno encontram-se presentes múltiplos fatores que se entrecruzam de forma sinérgica nas trajetórias de vida das adolescentes. Ações de enfrentamento ao fenômeno requerem ações macro-estruturais e focais, nos mostrando a necessidade de repensarmos as concepções sobre os direitos das crianças e adolescentes, vivência de sexualidade, valores culturais e sociais, que acabam por permitir a emergência e perpetuação da exploração sexual comercial de crianças e adolescentes.
Children's labour as a risky pathways to resilience: children's growth in contexts of poor resources

Nesse artigo, analisamos a questão do trabalho infantil como um fenômeno complexo, englobando fatores de risco por um lado e possíveis resultados positivos por outro. Baseados na teoria da resiliência e a partir de uma revisão de literatura, centrada em pesquisas que analisam a própria experiência de crianças sobre o trabalho desenvolvido, mostramos que quando inseridos em ecologias socialmente e fisicamente pobres em recursos, crianças associam sua experiência de trabalho como um caminho para assegurar recursos próprios para superação de adversidades. A compreensão de aspectos subjetivos da experiência de crianças trabalhadores nos permite considerar o trabalho como uma construção culturalmente embasada. Apesar da exploração de crianças não se configurar como o melhor para elas, há evidências de que elas usam quaisquer oportunidades disponíveis, incluindo o trabalho, para navegar em busca de recursos que necessitam e negociam por uma identidade associada à resiliência. Implicações para políticas públicas e intervenções também são discutidas.

O presente artigo visa apresentar as principais idéias e conceitos sobre resiliência, tendo como parâmetro a produção de Michael Ungar. Inicialmente será apresentada a perspectiva pós-moderna, na qual discutir-se-á sobre a construção social do conceito de resiliência e em seguida será introduzido ao leitor o conceito de hidden resilience, aqui traduzido como resiliência oculta e relacionado a estratégias de coping não-convencionais. As pesquisas com adolescentes no Canadá e em vários países possibilitou a consolidação da proposta elaborada pelo autor, para o qual resiliência refere-se a uma experiência relacionada à capacidade do indivíduo de navegar por recursos associados ao bem-estar e à capacidade de suas famílias e comunidade em prover tais recursos de formas culturalmente significativas. Implicações para práticas profissionais na área da adolescência e juventude serão discutidas.

Dynamic viscosity of binary mixtures of poly(ethylene glycol) molar mass 1500 da + water, potassium phosphate + water, and ternary mixtures of poly(ethylene glycol) molar mass 1500 da + potassium phosphate + water were determined at 303.15 K Binary and ternary mixture viscosities showed a direct logarithm-type relation with the increase of poly(ethylene glycol) and potassium phosphate contents. The models used for viscosity correlation gave a good fit to the experimental data.

The accurate determination of thermophysical properties of milk is very important for design, simulation, optimization, and control of food processing such as evaporation, heat exchanging, spray drying, and so forth. Generally, polynomial methods are used for prediction of these properties based on empirical correlation to experimental data. Artificial neural networks are better Suited for processing noisy and extensive knowledge indexing. This article proposed the application of neural networks for prediction of specific heat, thermal conductivity, and density of milk with temperature ranged from 2.0 to 71.0degreesC, 72.0 to 92.0% of water content (w/w), and 1.350 to 7.822% of fat content (w/w). Artificial neural networks presented a better prediction capability of specific heat, thermal conductivity, and density of milk than polynomial modeling. It showed a reasonable alternative to empirical modeling for thermophysical properties of foods.

Heat capacity, thermal conductivity, and density of whole milk, skimmed milk, and partially skimmed milk were determined at concentrations varying from (72.0 to 92.0) mass % water content and from (0.1 to 7.8) mass % fat content, at temperatures ranging from (275.15 to 344.15) K. Heat capacity and thermal conductivity varied from (3.4 to 4.1) J(.)g(-) K-1.(-1) and from (0.5 to 0.6) W(.)m(-1) K-1.(-1), respectively. Density varied from (1011.8 to 1049.5) kg(.)m(-3). Polynomial functions were used to model the dependence of the properties upon the studied variables. A linear relationship was obtained for all the properties. In the tested range, water content exhibited a greater influence on the properties, while fat content showed a smaller influence.

Density, heat capacity and thermal conductivity of liquid egg products, such as egg white, egg yolk, whole egg and various white and yolk blends, were determined as affected by temperature and water content ranging from 273 to 311 K and 51.8 to 88.2% (mass), respectively. Polynomial models fitted the experimental data very well, showing a linear relationship both for temperature and water content. (c) 2005 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

The aim of this work war to study the behavior of the plan tangential grinding process with conventional grinding wheels, under several machining conditions and a selected dressing condition. The analysis of the grinding performance was done regarding the cutting surface wear behavior of the grinding wheel for brittle and ductile steels workpieces. The grinding input parameters, which were, cutting speed, workpiece speed and cutting feed, were chosen based on the grinding machine characteristics. The results discussion emphasized the wear mechanism of the grinding wheel cutting surface and the cutting phenomenology of the grinding process.

Clay mineral analysis contributed to the mineralogical characterization and stratigraphic setting of continental Cenozoic deposits of central-eastern portion of São Paulo State, southeastern Brazil. These deposits, often thin and discontinuous, comprise the Itaqueri Formation (Cretaceous-Paleogene), Rio Claro Formation (Pliocene) and associated Neocenozoic deposits. X-ray diffractometry provided mineralogical and semiquantitative constitution of clays, while scanning electron microscopy (SEM) provided details about mineralogical constitution, packing of microscopic grains and nature (detrital or diagenetic) of clays. These results supported interpretations about paleoenvironmental conditions during sedimentation, revealing possible links between changing climates (dry or humid) and correlative Cenozoic deposits in southeastern Brazil. In addition, SEM images showed microstructures which influence on geotechnical behaviour (erosion and collapse phenomena) of sedimentary materials.

Results are reported of the behaviour of the plane tangential grinding process using diamond grinding wheels. Grinding performance is analysed in terms of the wear behaviour of the wheel in the grinding of ceramic. Discussion of the results concentrates on the wear mechanism of the diamond wheel and the process of material removal.

In this work are presented the values found with the experimental testing, in the semi-elliptic leaf spring, utilizing 24 strain gages, distributed in five leaves of springs; these values have been compared to the calculated values found with the application of Norm SAE J788 (1982). The results showed discrepancy between the values measured and calculated and that the Norm is not indicated to determine the actuating stress in any point of any leaf of the leaf spring, but due to its simplicity and quickness of the process it presents good precision for the pre-development of the product. Gender influences the progression of chronic renal failure (CRF). We studied male (M) and female (F) Wistar rats for 90 days: castrated (CMc, n=7; CFc, n=6) and non castrated controls (CM, n=9; CF, n=6); castrated (CRFMc, n=8; CRFFc, n=6) and non castrated animals submitted to 5/6 nephrectomy (CRFM, n=13; CRFF, n=6). Data are expressed as mean ± SEM. Proteinuria (PTN) was higher in CRFM (554 ± 69mg/24h) compared to CRFMc (277 ± 85 mg/24h), but not in females (CRFF=193 ± 20mg/24h, CRFFc=164 ± 71mg/24h). Mesangial fractional volume increased in all CRF animals. CRF animals showed an increase of glomerular sclerosis index (GSI) and tubulointerstitial damage (TID) but in a smaller proportion in male castrated animals; the opposite occurred with females: castration induced an increase of these parameters. CRF animals showed increased cortical and glomerular fibronectin (FN) rates. Castration decreased glomerular and cortical FN rates in CRFM but not in females. In conclusion, proteinuria was higher in CRFM and probably led to glomerular and interstitial damage, as well as to FN accumulation, castration seems to protect against development of PTN, TID and FN accumulation in males. Castrated female rats presented mesangial expansion, with no changes in PTN, TID and FN rates. It seems that female sex hormones do not protect against renal disease progression, instead, we suggest that male sex hormones lead to acceleration of CRF.
