The cases of June 2000, November 2002 and September 2002 as examples of Mediterranean floods

Four flood events that affected three different countries are here described in terms of meteorological genesis and in terms of consequences on the population and on the territory. Each event is a good representative of a class of phenomena that produce important effects on the urban and extra-urban tissue and that must be taken into account in an optic of civil protection and risk evaluation. This is the subject of the HYDROPTIMET project, part of the Interreg IIIB program, which is collocated in the framework of the prevention of natural hazards and, in particular, those related to severe meteo-hydrological events. This paper aims at being a general introduction of the four events which are the subject of more detailed studies, already published or under submission.

Preliminary results of the Social Impact Research Group of MEDEX: the request database (2000-2002) of two Meteorological Services

One of the aims of the MEDEX project is to improve the knowledge of high-impact weather events in the Mediterranean. According to the guidelines of this project, a pilot study was carried out in two regions of Spain (the Balearic Islands and Catalonia) by the Social Impact Research group of MEDEX. The main goal is to suggest some general and suitable criteria about how to analyse requests received in Meteorological Services arising out of the damage caused by weather events. Thus, all the requests received between 2000 and 2002 at the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya as well as at the Division of AEMET in the Balearic Islands were analysed. Firstly, the proposed criteria in order to build the database are defined and discussed. Secondly, the temporal distribution of the requests for damage claims is analysed. On average, almost half of them were received during the first month after the event happened. During the first six months, the percentage increases by 90%. Thirdly, various factors are taken into account to determine the impact of specific events on society. It is remarkable that the greatest number of requests is for those episodes with simultaneous heavy rain and strong wind, and finally, those that are linked to high population density.

En aquesta ocasió, Bilbao fou la ciutat amfitriona, i ALDEE (Artxibozain, Liburuzain eta Dokumentazainen Euskal Elkartea), una de les associacions professionals que existeixen al País Basc, participà en l'organització

Els programes de fonts i serveis d'informació a les escoles nord-americanes de biblioteconomia i documentació

S'estableix una relació entre els cursos bàsics de treball de referència, impartits en les escoles de Biblioteconomia i Documentació nord-americanes, i les assignatures Serveis d'informació i Serveis i fonts d'informació presents en els plans d'estudis de la Diplomatura en Biblioteconomia i Documentació de la Universitat de Barcelona durant la dècada dels noranta. Es presenta una revisió de la literatura recent sobre la naturalesa i les tendències del curs bàsic esmentat, i s'analitzen els programes corresponents a aquesta assignatura que s'imparteixen a les millors escoles dels Estats Units d'Amèrica

Los programas de fuentes y servicios de información en las escuelas norteamericanas de biblioteconomía y documentación

Se establece una relación entre los cursos básicos de trabajo de referencia impartidos en las escuelas de Biblioteconomía y Documentación norteamericanas, y las asignaturas Servicios de información y Servicios y fuentes de información presentes en los planes de estudios de la Diplomatura en Biblioteconomía y Documentación de la Universidad de Barcelona durante la década de los noventa. Se ofrece una revisión de la literatura reciente sobre la naturaleza y tendencias del citado curso básico, y se analizan los programas correspondientes a esta asignatura que se imparten en las mejores escuelas de los Estados Unidos de América.

Informe sobre el I Encuentro Británico-Español de Profesores de Biblioteconomía y Documentación, 2000 (Barcelona, 30-31 de març i 1 d'abril de 2000)

Sota el títol de Biblioteconomía y Documentación en la era digital: docencia e investigación, l'Observatori de la Comunicació Científica, la Secció Científica de Biblioteconomia i Documentació del Departament de Ciències Polítiques i Socials i l'Institut de Lingüística Aplicada (IULA) de la Universitat Pompeu Fabra organitzaren en les dates ja esmentades el I Encuentro Británico-Español de Profesores de Biblioteconomia y Documentación a la seu de la Rambla d'aquesta Universitat. Han col·laborat en aquesta activitat, a més, el Ministerio de Educación y Cultura, el Departamento de Biblioteconomía y Documentación de la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, la Llicenciatura en Documentació de la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, la Llicenciatura en Documentació de la Universitat de Barcelona, la Llicenciatura en Documentació de laUniversitat Oberta de Catalunya, el Col·legi Oficial de Bibliotecaris-Documentalistes de Catalunya (COBDC) i la School of Information and Media Robert Gordon University. Pel nombre d'institucions implicades i pelseu alt nivell, es constata fàcilment que la trobada naixia amb molt bons auguris.
