[EN] The aims of this work were (i) to evaluate the potential of nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) as a tool to 24 enhance the oral bioavailability of poorly soluble compounds using saquinavir (SQV), a BCS class IV drug 25 and P-gp substrate as a model drug, and (ii) to study NLC transport mechanisms across the intestinal barrier. 26 Three different NLC formulations were evaluated. SQV transport across Caco-2 monolayers was enhanced up 27 to 3.5-fold by NLCs compared to SQV suspension. M cells did not enhance the transport of NLCs loaded with 28 SQV. The size and amount of surfactant in the NLCs influenced SQV's permeability, the transcytosis pathway 29 and the efflux of SQV by P-gp. An NLC of size 247 nm and 1.5% (w/v) surfactant content circumvented P-gp 30 efflux and used both caveolae- and clathrin-mediated transcytosis, in contrast to the other NLC formulations, 31 which used only caveolae-mediated transcytosis. By modifying critical physicochemical parameters of the 32 NLC formulation, we were thus able to overcome the P-gp drug efflux and alter the transcytosis mechanism 33 of the nanoparticles. These findings support the use of NLCs approaches for oral delivery of poorly 34 water-soluble P-gp substrates.

Changes in sensory and instrumental quality parameter sand in thawing drip, cooking drip and total drip loss of frozen stored Baltic cod fillets (Gadus morhua) at different storage temperatures were investigated. Cod fillets stored at –20 °C and –30 °C exhibited the lowest drip losses and obtained the highest sensory scores. Drip losses were found to be highest in cod fillets stored at –10°C and in double frozen fillets stored at –20 °C. These two experiments also gave the lowest sensory scores. The texture parameters increased during storage parallel with storage time. The waterbinding capacity was lowest at –10 °C and almost constant at –30 °C. There is a good correlation between the sensory scores for “tough” and the instrumental texture measurement for hardness and chewiness.

ENGLISH: This report deals with the Japanese longline fishery for tunas and billfishes from 1967 through 1970, extending the studies made by Kume and Joseph (1969a, 1969b). The distribution of effort and catch is discussed and evaluated, and the changes in apparent abundance are examined. An analysis is made of the sexual maturity and size composition of the fish, and a brief comparison of the size composition of the catches from the longline and the surface fisheries is included. About 1500 ovaries of Baltic cod were prepared for estimating the potential absolute and relative individual fecundity. The female cod were sampled in the Belt Sea, ICES Subdivision (SD) 22, in the Arkona Sea, SD 24, and in the Bornholm Sea, SD 25. The investigations started in1992 and until 1999 cruises were carried out to catch female cod in the different sub-divisions every year. The results shows that the potential fecundity is not a stable biological parameter, and that significant changes are possible within a relative short period. It was demonstrated that the developments of the potential individual fecundity of the western (Gadus morhua morhua) and eastern Baltic cod stocks (Gadus morhua callarias) were different. In contrast to the stable individual fecundity of the western cod the absolute and relative fecundity of the eastern repeat spawners increased from 1993 to 1999, significantly. The reason of this development seems to be the dramatic decrease of the eastern cod stock and the more successful reproduction of individuals that produce oocytes with a lower dry weight in combination with a higher relative fecundity.

An examination is made of the requirements for the commercial propagation of carp and tilapia in Nigeria. It is concluded that the operation of a successful Fish Hatchery and fry production system will depend on the following factors: 1) Correct initial planning for intended production (both species and intended numbers); 2) Design of the appropriate facilities to enable required production; 3) Selection of top calibre, dedicated and experienced hatchery staff; and, 4) The ethical responsibility taken by the hatchery management to produce only the highest quality seed under the best possible conditions. Purchasing farmers are dependent on this

A total of 45 Male and 5 female Clarias gariepinus bred and reared in the hatchery in sunning for one year were obtained for this experiment. The fish were then housed separately according to their sexes and maintained on trout diet at 10% body weight for two days before they were subjected to induction. These were then induced using both human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG - 500iu) and carp pituitary suspension (CPS -3mg kg super(-1) suspended in 0.9% saline) either as priming or resolving doses. The milt produced was used to fertilize eggs tripped from females. The results indicated high milt production, motility and fertility in most males
