Implementation of a unified userspace time handling library under the Linux OS

An appropriate assessment of end-to-end network performance presumes highly efficient time tracking and measurement with precise time control of the stopping and resuming of program operation. In this paper, a novel approach to solving the problems of highly efficient and precise time measurements on PC-platforms and on ARM-architectures is proposed. A new unified High Performance Timer and a corresponding software library offer a unified interface to the known time counters and automatically identify the fastest and most reliable time source, available in the user space of a computing system. The research is focused on developing an approach of unified time acquisition from the PC hardware and accordingly substituting the common way of getting the time value through Linux system calls. The presented approach provides a much faster means of obtaining the time values with a nanosecond precision than by using conventional means. Moreover, it is capable of handling the sequential time value, precise sleep functions and process resuming. This ability means the reduction of wasting computer resources during the execution of a sleeping process from 100% (busy-wait) to 1-1.5%, whereas the benefits of very accurate process resuming times on long waits are maintained.

Software for Explicitly Parallel Memory-Centric Processor Architecture

Advances in computer memory technology justify research towards new and different views on computer organization. This paper proposes a novel memory-centric computing architecture with the goal to merge memory and processing elements in order to provide better conditions for parallelization and performance. The paper introduces the architectural concepts and afterwards shows the design and implementation of a corresponding assembler and simulator.

Entwicklung einer benutzerfreundlichen Software zur Berechnung von Rundfunk-Sendeantennen

Die Abteilung Sendertechnik des Norddeutschen Rundfunks betreibt die Sender zur Versorgung der Rundfunknutzer und befasst sich unter anderem mit der Planung und Optimierung von Sendeantennen. Das Ziel dieser Bachelorarbeit war die Entwicklung einer Software, mit der Horizontaldiagramme von Antennen erstellt, angepasst und dokumentiert werden können. Dafür wurde eine vorhandene LabVIEW-Software in ihren Grundzügen übernommen, in eine neue, in Java entwickelte Programmumgebung übertragen und dort erweitert und optimiert. Die Arbeit dokumentiert die Grundlagen der Sendeantennenplanung und die programmiertechnischen Entwicklungsschritte bis hin zur fertiggestellten und funktionsfähigen Software. Im Speziellen geht sie dabei auf die Berechnung von Antennensystemen, die Erstellung von Horizontaldiagrammen sowie die objektorientierte Programmierung und die Erstellung von grafischen Benutzeroberflächen ein. Dabei werden die einzelnen Entwicklungsschritte dokumentiert und erläutert sowie die Validierung der Software beschrieben.

Erstellung und Lokalisierung von EPUB-Dokumenten

Because of the transformation of the mainstream of information media nowadays, it is vital to constitute a standard of electronic publishing in this emerging field. EPUB is the key standard of the organization IDPF, which is the official standard format for digital books. The present dissertation aims at creating and localizing EPUB documents of the module handbook for the master's degree program software localization at Anhalt University of applied Sciences (Hochschule Anhalt) from German into Chinese as example. This dissertation describes the technical and theoretical foundations of e-book formats and represents especially the structures and features of EPUB. In order to spread the information widely in the world, localization of the products plays an important role. An introduction of localization technology and localization tools is constructed and included in the project. The work processes are mentioned, so as to show, how to translate an EPUB document and ensure good quality. The summary and the view of EPUB are illuminated at the end.
