Objective. To analyze the role of the institution in choosing, receiving and chaperone professors. Methodology. Qualitative study, which body analysis was composed of 32 participations in a thematic forum of a group of nine health professionals. Results. After professor hiring it is necessary to receive and chaperone him. Professors with longer time in the institution represent a more important role in the admission of the new professor. Chaperone process is an opportunity to change and redefine the rules, and should be supported by permanent evaluation. The university as a legitimate learning scenario, production and knowledge reconstitution, should accompany changes of contemporary science and support the interdisciplinary demands in the new knowledge construction. Conclusion. It is fundamental the role of the university receiving and chaperoning teachers from joining. As well university should favor the growth of the professor, not only by supporting the challenges of their pedagogic activity, but mainly through the respect of autonomy.

The research aimed to evaluate the relationship between the thermal environment of the rest pens in a pig slaughterhouse and the surface temperature (ST) of the animals as well as the effect of intermittent water spraying on thermal comfort. There were two visits to slaughter industrial being in each selected three pens of rest, one for control treatment (no spray throughout the period) and two for the treatment of intermittent spraying water (30 minutes intervals with constant spray followed by 30 minutes then turned off). Assessments began at the time of discharging animals in which are taken the thermographic images from lots using an infrared thermographic camera. After housing in the pens, were registered the thermographic images and the respiratory frequency (RF) every five minutes for four hours. Were evaluated the temperature, relative humidity and temperature-humidity index (THI). Considering the values of THI was observed that the animals remained in a condition of comfort only at the time of his arrival at the slaughterhouse. The ST and RF of the animals kept in the pens without sprinkler system (control) showed a linear increase in function of time of day, with increasing temperature. The treatment with intermittent sprinkling of water was observed oscillatory behavior of the ST and RF, however it was always lower than the control treatment, even in times when the water sprinklers were turned off. The time required of spray to reduction and stabilization of the ST of the animals was limited to the combination of temperature and relative humidity, being estimated at 25 minutes at times of higher THI. The maximum environmental temperature during evaluation was 28.4 oC.

This study was conducted to evaluate the performance and characteristics of manure produced by Saanen goats with 90, 120 and 150 days of age and fed three diets, diets 1 = 80 % roughage (R) and 20 % concentrate (C), diets 2 = 60 % R and 40 % C, diets 3 = 40 % R and 60 % C. Were evaluated 24 goats (divided into three groups according to diet ) during the fattening stage, making up the collection of waste at 90, 120 and 150 days of age to quantify the mass of manure produced each day, beyond the content of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Na, Fe, Cu, Zn and Mn. The animals were weighed weekly and during the collection of waste is evaluated the digestibility of DM, CP and NDF, in addition to the estimate of feed conversion and rate of waste. The best results of feed conversion coefficient of waste and the apparent digestibilities of DM, CP and NDF occurred at the age of 150 days and in animals fed diets containing higher proportions of concentrate. Insofar as the increased age of the animal and level of concentrate in the diets were verified higher production of faeces. All nutrients were also affected, with higher concentrations occurred in the feces of animals at 150 days old and fed with diet 40% R and 60% C.

Arthrospira platensis was cultivated in tubular photobioreactor in order to evaluate growth and biomass production at variable photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD?=?60, 120, and 240?mu mol photons m-2?s-1) and employing three different systems for cell circulation, specifically an airlift, a motor-driven pumping and a pressurized system. The influence of these two independents variables on the maximum cell concentration (Xm), cell productivity (Px), nitrogen-to-cell conversion factor (YX/N), photosynthetic efficiency (PE), and biomass composition (total lipids and proteins), taken as responses, was evaluated by analysis of variance. The statistical analysis revealed that the best combination of responses' mean values (Xm?=?4,055?mg?L-1, Px?=?406?mg?L-1?day-1, YX/N?=?5.07?mg?mg-1, total lipids?=?8.94%, total proteins?=?30.3%, PE?=?2.04%) was obtained at PPFD?=?120?mu mol photons m-2?s-1; therefore, this light intensity should be considered as the most well-suited for A. platensis cultivation in this photobioreactor configuration. The airlift system did not exert any significant positive statistical influence on the responses, which suggests that this traditional cell circulation system could successfully be substituted by the others tested in this work. Pensando em melhorar a qualidade de vida dos pacientes com doenças do humor vítreo, os oftalmologistas começaram a utilizar recentemente implantes biodegradáveis com corticoide. Estes mesmos implantes podem ser uma alternativa no tratamento da RSC e, para isso, realizamos um estudo experimental em seios maxilares de coelhos. OBJETIVO: Avaliar histologicamente a mucosa de seio maxilar de coelhos após a colocação de implante biodegradável de prednisolona. MÉTODO: Dezoito coelhos foram divididos aleatoriamente em dois grupos: Grupo 1: no seio maxilar esquerdo foi inserido um implante biodegradável com prednisolona; Grupo 2: No seio maxilar esquerdo foi inserido um implante biodegradável sem medicação. Os seios maxilares do lado direito serviram como controle. Após 7, 14 e 28 dias foram escolhidos aleatoriamente três coelhos de cada grupo e a resposta tecidual inflamatória foi avaliada. RESULTADOS: Foi encontrada diferença não significativa de inflamação na mucosa, quando comparamos o grupo de coelhos que receberam implantes com e sem medicação com o grupo controle; ou quando comparamos o grupo que recebeu implante com prednisolona com o grupo que recebeu implante sem medicação. CONCLUSÃO: Não foram observados sinais de toxicidade ou inflamação na mucosa do seio maxilar do coelho à presença do implante com ou sem prednisolona.

Binary and ternary systems of Ni2+, Zn2+, and Pb2+ were investigated at initial metal concentrations of 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mM as competitive adsorbates using Arthrospira platensis and Chlorella vulgaris as biosorbents. The experimental results were evaluated in terms of equilibrium sorption capacity and metal removal efficiency and fitted to the multi-component Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The pseudo second order model of Ho and McKay described well the adsorption kinetics, and the FT-IR spectroscopy confirmed metal binding to both biomasses. Ni2+ and Zn2+ interference on Pb2+ sorption was lower than the contrary, likely due to biosorbent preference to Pb. In general, the higher the total initial metal concentration, the lower the adsorption capacity. The results of this study demonstrated that dry biomass of C. vulgaris behaved as better biosorbent than A. platensis and suggest its use as an effective alternative sorbent for metal removal from wastewater. Introduction: The treatment of adult transverse maxillary deficiency is the surgically assisted maxillary expansion. Several surgical techniques have been described for this and complications have been related to these procedures. Objective: the aim of this study was evaluate the incidence of complications associated with surgically assisted maxillary expansion. Material and method: 33 individuals undergone surgically assisted maxillary expansion by subtotal Le Fort I osteotomy with a step in the zygomatic-maxillary buttress and associated to pterigomaxillary disjunction and osteotomy of intermaxillary suture. Operative complications, post-operative complications and the distance between the upper teeth were recorded. Result: 12 men and 21 women with an average age of 24.64 years undergone the procedure. The interdental distances increased from preoperative to 2 months post?operative time. The prevalent complications were sinusitis (6%) and teeth displacement and inclination (6%). Conclusion: Surgically assisted maxillary expansion is an effective and low morbidity procedure to treat transverse maxillary deficiency in adults.

Objective: To assess the effects produced by the MARA appliance in the treatment of Angle’s Class II, division 1 malocclusion. Methods: The sample consisted of 44 young patients divided into two groups: The MARA Group, with initial mean age of 11.99 years, treated with the MARA appliance for an average period of 1.11 years, and the Control Group, with initial mean age of 11.63 years, monitored for a mean period of 1.18 years with no treatment. Lateral cephalograms were used to compare the groups using cephalometric variables in the initial and final phases. For these comparisons, Student’s t test was employed. Results: MARA appliance produced the following effects: Maxillary growth restriction, no change in mandibular development, improvement in maxillomandibular relationship, increased lower anterior facial height and counterclockwise rotation of the functional occlusal plane. In the upper arch, the incisors moved lingually and retruded, while the molars moved distally and tipped distally. In the lower arch, the incisors proclined and protruded, whereas the molars mesialized and tipped mesially. Finally, there was a significant reduction in overbite and overjet, with an obvious improvement in molar relationship. Conclusions: It was concluded that the MARA appliance proved effective in correcting Angle’s Class II, division 1 malocclusion while inducing skeletal changes and particularly dental changes.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the response of treatment of central giant cell lesion to intralesional corticosteroid injections. Study Design: Review of articles indexed in PubMed on the topic between the years 1988 and 2011, and development of a descriptive meta-analysis of the results. Results: Sample of 41 patients primarily treated with intralesional corticosteroid injections was obtained, with a male female ratio of 1:0.95, being 23 aggressive and 18 non-aggressive central giant cell lesions. Triamcinolone acetonide and triamcinolone hexacetonide were the drugs used, and 78.0% cases were considered as good result, 14.6% were considered as moderate response and 7.3% were considered as negative result to treatment. Considering the aggressiveness, 88.9% of non-aggressive lesions presented a good response to treatment, in aggressive central giant cell lesions, 69.6% presented a good response to intralesional corticosteroid injections. Conclusion: In view of the results analyzed, intralesional corticosteroid injections could be considered as first treatment option for central giant cell lesion.

As fissuras labiopalatinas são defeitos congênitos comuns entre as malformações que atingem a face e a prevalência varia entre 1 e 2 indivíduos brancos para cada 1000 nascimentos e no Brasil os dados estatísticos oscilam em torno de 1:650. Essas malformações são estabelecidas precocemente na vida IU (intra-uterina) e a formação da face ocorre da diferenciação dos processos maxilares, frontal, nasais mediais, nasais laterais e mandibulares e da 4ª semana de vida IU até o final da 8ª semana as estruturas se fusionam adquirindo feições humanas e no final da 12ª semana os processos palatinos tem a sua completa coalescência. A falta de fusão dos processos faciais levam a diferentes tipos de fissuras labiais, faciais e palatinas. A meta terapêutica é a reabilitação integral do paciente que envolve uma equipe multi e interdisciplinar, reconstruindo o defeito anatômico, devolvendo a estética, a função e sobretudo a integração psicossocial com a sociedade. As fissuras labiopalatinas englobam uma ampla variedade de malformações com extensões e amplitudes que determinam protocolos e prognósticos de tratamento distintos. Portanto é fundamental uma proposta simples e prática para o diagnóstico e classificação das fissuras, calcado na embriologia, identificando sua anatomia e priorizando as abordagens terapêuticas. A reabilitação envolve procedimentos cirúrgicos e extracirurgicos em épocas oportunas, envolvendo as especialidades quase todas médicas, odontológicas, fonoaudiológicas e psicossociais. Serão abordados as características morfológicas e funcionais dos diferentes tipos de fissuras, sua etiologia, as variáveis que interferem no crescimento maxilar e facial e as etapas e condutas terapêuticas que levam à reabilitação de excelência

A técnica de Fixação Zigomática serve como um meio alternativo para pacientes que apresentam grande perda de estrutura maxilar decorrentes de atrofia maxilar severa, traumas, cirurgias ressectivas tumorais ou defeitos congênitos. Pacientes portadores de fissura de lábio e palato podem ser beneficiados com esta técnica, pois apresentam baixo desenvolvimento de seus maxilares devido às cirurgias primárias de queiloplastia e palatoplastia. O implante zigomático de titânio que possui em média 30 mm a 52,5 mm de comprimento, se insere no rebordo alveolar remanescente em direção ao corpo do zigoma. Por meio dessa técnica, é possível ancorar uma prótese fixa utilizando carga precoce. Objetivo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi de relatar um caso ocorrido no Hospital de Reabilitação de Anomalias Craniofaciais, Bauru, São Paulo, com resolução protética de um paciente portador de fissura labiopalatina através da ancoragem zigomática. Relato Clínico: Em 2008, paciente do Hospital de Reabilitação de Anomalias Craniofaciais, portadora de fissura labiopalatina, foi realizado um planejamento criterioso e a opção mais adequada foi a resolução protética através de uma ancoragem em zigoma. Foi utilizado implante zigomático do lado direito e implantes unitários na região dos dos elementos dentários 13 e 11, após exodontia do elemento 11. Assim, confeccionada uma prótese sobre implantes e placa miorrelaxante com controle de 45 dias. Conclusão: Esta alternativa possibilita ao paciente uma menor morbidade, sem a necessidade de cirurgias de reconstrução óssea, apresenta um tempo menor de tratamento e consequentemente integrando o paciente à sociedade.

[ES] Hacer un recorrido por la historia de Canarias es muy fácil con la Memoria Digital de Canarias (mdC), un proyecto inédito en el seno de una universidad española que vio la luz en el año 2003 y que atesora la producción intelectual que el archipiélago canario aglutinó a lo largo de cinco siglos y que muchos isleños desconocen por tratarse en gran parte de obras antiguas, valiosas, raras, agotadas o que nunca vieron la luz. Gracias a la digitalización de estas obras, también se ha evitado el posible deterioro como consecuencia de las múltiples manipulaciones, por lo que de este modo, mdC contribuye en la actualidad a la conservación del patrimonio documental canario.

[ES] A través del contencioso plátano, importante para Canarias, se puede analizar la evolución del mecanismo de solución de controversias en el seno del GATT -actual OMC- y su influencia en las políticas de la Unión Europea, sobre todo de la Política Agrícola Común. Aún hoy no se conocen exactamente, las debilidades y fortalezas de un sistema, que estudiaremos tanto, a través de jurisprudencia comunitaria, dictámenes de los paneles, etc.
