Rare earth complex Eu(phen)(2)Cl-3 was introduced into a SiO2-PEG-400 hybrid material by a sol-ger method. The result indicated that Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) could associate with Eu3+ and change the surroundings of Eu3+ in the hybrid material, greatly improving the decay time. Transparent SiO2-PEG400 hybrid doped with a very small amount of Eu(phen)(2)Cl-3 has better mechanical properties and can retain excellent luminescence properties of the rare earth complex. Three novel series of monomers, namely n-1-bromo-[4-(4-methoxyphenylazo)phenyloxy]-alkanes (Bn, n = 3, 6, 10), n-[4-(4-methoxyphenylazo) phenyloxy]alkyloxy-4-methoxybenzene (Cn, n = 3, 6, 10) and n-[4-(4-methoxyphenylazo)phenyloxyl]alkyloxy-[4-methoxy-2,5-bis-(chloromethyl)] benzene (Dn, n = 3, 6, 10) were synthesized and characterized with FTIR, H-1 NMR, UV-visible and fluorescence spectroscopy. Their thermal behaviour was studied by different scanning calorimetry and polarizing optical microscopy. The results show that B3, B6 and C6 exhibit monotropic nematic liquid crystalline behaviour.

The BaMA(10)O(17) (M = Be, Mg, Ca, Zn, Cd, Mn, Co, Li) system has been synthesized by solid state method and characterized by XRD. The results show that when M is Mg, Zn, Mn, Co, Li, there exists the structure of beta-Al2O3 for BaMAl10O17 system, and when M indicates Cd, beta-Al2O3 structure is formed accompanying alpha-Al2O3 phase, and when M represents Be and Ca, beta-Al2O3 structure cannot be formed. This demonstrates that the condition forming beta-Al2O3 structure compounds for the system BaMAl10O17 is 0.05nm < R-M < 0.09nm (R-M represents the radius of M). The thought that if a M ion can form a stable spinel structure there exsits a corresponding magnetoplumbite and beta-alumina structure is proposed for BaMAl10O17 system according to the experimental results. When M is Li, Be, Zn, Eu2+ activator produces an emission of nearly 450 nm with half height width about 50 nm, when M is Mn, there are simultaneously the emissions of Eu2+ and Mn2+ and the excitation energy of Eu2+ can transfer to Mn2+ in the host, when M is Cd, Eu2+ displays a double-emission band, which can be explained by the Jahn-Teller's effect. It is possible for the system BaMAl10O17 with M being Li, Be, Zn to become blue-emitting component in three colour lamp through further study.

After isothermal crystallization, poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) showed double endothermic behavior in the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) heating scan. During the heating scans of semicrystalline PET, a metastable melt which comes from melting thinner lamellar crystal populations formed between the low and the upper endothermic temperatures. The metastable melt can recrystallize immediately just above the low melting temperature and form thicker lamellae than the original ones. The thickness and perfection depends on the crystallization time and crystallization temperature. The crystallization kinetics of this metastable melt can be determined by means of DSC. The kinetics analysis showed that the isothermal crystallization of the metastable PET melt proceeds with an Avrami exponent of n = 1.0 similar to 1.2, probably reflecting one-dimensional or irregular line growth of the crystal occurring between the existing main lamellae with heterogeneous nucleation. This is in agreement with the hypothesis that the melting peaks are associated with two distinct crystal populations with different thicknesses. (C) 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

在BaMAl10O17 体系中 ,将M扩大到除镁以外的其它离子 ,研究和讨论了离子半径与基质结构的形成关系 ,提出能稳定(形成)尖晶石结构的M离子有相应的磁铅矿或β Al2O3 结构的化合物存在的思想 ,并研究了Eu2 +在体系中的发光性能。结果表明 ,M=Zn,Cd,Mn,Co,Li可形成 β Al2O3 结构化合物 ,M=Ca,Be时不能形成这类结构 ,Ca形成多相共存 ,Be形成一未知相 ;Eu2 +在M=Li,Be,Zn体系中具有良好的发光性能 ,发射波长450nm ,半高宽在50nm附近 ,将是一类很有前途的新的蓝色发光材料 ,Eu2 +在M=Mn的体系中存在Eu2 +和Mn2 +的同时发射 ,在M=Cd体系中 ,Eu2 +产生一双重宽带发射。对实验结果进行了合理的解释

通过高温固相反应法,在高纯N_2气氛中合成了BaLiF_3,KMgF_3中单掺和双掺Eu,Gd的ABF_3型复合氟化物。研究了各类掺杂体系的光谱特性,观察到了Gd~(3+)→Eu~(2+)的能量传递,分析了能量传递过程,探讨了能量传递机理,并讨论了Gd~(3+)和Eu~(2+)的取代格位。

Isothermal and nonisothermal crystallization behavior for PEKK(T) was studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and electron diffraction (ED). In the isothermal crystallization process, the Avrami parameters obtained were n = 2.33-2.69, which shows crystal growth of two-dimensional extensions consistent with our observations by TEM. The lamellar thickness increases with the crystallization temperature of PEKK(T) crystallized isothermally from the melt. However, for the nonisothermal crystallization of PEKK(T), the results from the modified Avrami analysis show two different crystallization processes. Avrami exponents n(1) = 3.61-5.30, obtained from the primary crystallization process, are much bigger than are the secondary n(2) = 2.26-3.04 and confirmed by the observation of the spherulite morphology. PEKK(T) crystallized isothermally from the melt possesses the same crystal structure (Form I) as that from nonisothermal melt crystallization. The results from TEM observation show that the spherulite radius decreases with an increasing cooling rate. (C) 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

The half-sandwich tert-butyl cyclopentadienyl lanthanoid complexes {[Cp ' Ln(THF)](2)(mu (2)-Cl)(2)(mu (3)-Cl)(3)Na(THF)}(n) [Cp ' = eta (5)-' BuC5H4; Ln = Nd (1a), Sm (1b), Gd (1c), Yb (1d)] are prepared by the reaction of anhydrous lanthanoid trichloride, LnCl(3), with NaCp ' in THF solution. Complex 1b reacts with Na2Se5 to give hexanuclear samarium polyselenide complexes [Na(THF)(6)](2)[Cp-6' SM6(mu (6)-Se)(mu -Se-2)(6)] (2). An analogous cyclopentadienyl neodymium polyselenide complex [Li(THF)(4)](2)[Cp6Nd6(mu (6)-Se)(mu -Se-2)(6)] (3) is synthesized by the reaction of [CpNdCl2. 2LiCl . 5THF] with Na2Se5 in THF solution. The molecular structures of 1a and 2 were determined by X-ray crystal structure analysis. Complex 2 contains an interstitial selenium atom which is coordinated with six samarium atoms. Nylon 10 10 crystals, which isothermally crystallized from the molten state and cold crystallized from melt-quenched samples at various temperatures, were investigated by using temperature-variable wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). No Brill transition occurred for the melt-crystallized crystals. However, this transition was easily observed for the cold-crystallized nylon 10 10, and the transition temperature is pertinent to the crystallization temperature. The sizes of these crystals was determined by SAYS and correlated with the Brill transition temperatures (T-B). It was found that the T-B had a linear relationship with the size of crystals, which was used to predict the T-B for those crystals with thick lamella and to calculate the crystal size showing T-B below room temperature. Nylon 10 10 crystal will possess the gamma form (pseudohexagonal form) rather than the a phase at room temperature if its size becomes small enough.

The nonisothermal crystallization behavior of polyethylene oxide (PEO) in poly(ethylene terephthalate)poly(ethylene oxide) (PETPEO) segmented copolymer and PEO homopolymer has been studied by means of differential scanning calorimetry, as well as transmission electron microscope. The kinetics of PEO in copolymer and PEO homopolymer under nonisothermal crystallization condition has been analyzed by Ozawa equation. The results show that Ozawa equation only describes the crystallization behavior of PEO-6000 homopolymer successfully, but fails to describe the whole crystallization process of PEO in copolymer because the secondary crystallization in the later stage could not be neglected. Due to the constraint of PET segments imposed on the PEO segments, a distinct two stage of crystallization of PEO in copolymer has been investigated by using Avrami equation modified by Jeziorny to deal with the nonisothermal crystallization data. In the case of PEO-6000 homopolymer, good linear relation for the whole crystallization process is obtained owing to the secondary crystallization does not occur under our experimental condition. The variation of lattice spacings of poly(iminosebacoyl iminodecamethylene) (nylon-10,10) with temperature was studied by wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) during both heating and cooling processes, which demonstrates a gradual and continuous transition with temperature. However, the crystal melts before the two peaks merge completely. Both WAXD and differential scanning calorimetry show that crystallization from molten sample results directly in the triclinic form. Additionally, this transition is thermodynamically reversible. Comparison of this transition with that of nylon-6,6, suggests that no hydrogen-bonded network is formed during or after the transition. We prefer to attribute this transition to asymmetrical thermal expansion in the nylon-10,10 crystals rather than to a true first-order phase transition. (C) 2001 Society of Chemical Industry.

The first mononuclear tungsten-citrato complex, (NH4)(3)[Li(H2O)(3)WO3(C6H4O7)] (1) has been prepared by the reaction of ammonium tetrathio tungstate and lithium citrate in CH3OH - H2O solution at pH 8.2. There are two crystallographically independent anions in the asymmetric crystallographic unit. The crystal structure of the title compound (triclinic, space group P (1) over bar, a = 6.901(1), b = 15.136(3), c = 16.107(3) Angstrom, alpha = 75.85(3), beta = 89.89(3), gamma = 89.97(3), V = 1631.4(6) Angstrom (3), R = 0.068, R-w = 0.1674 for 3878 reflections with I > 2 sigma (1)), reveals that in the compound a tungsten atom is coordinated to a fully deprotonated citrate as a tridentate ligand and three terminal oxygen atoms to form a distorted coordination octahedron.
