The disadvantages generated by the acid etching of the dentin, such as an increase in its permeability, in the surface moisture and in the potential to denature the external dentinal collagen, the formation of a fragility zone and the citotoxicity of the adhesive monomers; which are all aggravated by the depth of the dentin, have stimulated new and different treatment philosophies of the dentin. The purpose of the present study, therefore, was to investigate the effects of three dentin treatments: laser irradiation, acid etching and hypermineralization, in the shear bond strength of the SMP Plus bonding system. Sixty bovine incisors were extracted and randomly selected immediatly alter the animal's death. They were kept frozen (-18°C) for no longer than 14 days. After buccal dentinal surface had been exposed, X-Rays were taken to control the dentin thickness. The specimens were separated into two groups: (1) Control, kept in distilled water at 4ºC; (2) Mineralized, kept in hypermineralized solution at 4°C for 14 days. Each group was divided into three sub-groups according to the type of dentin treatment used: group F - followed the manufacturer instructions (acid-etching + primer + bond), group AL (acid-etching + primer + bond + laser) and group LA (laser + (laser + acid-etching + primer + bond). A composite resin standard cylinder (Z100-3M) was bond to the dentinal surface and the shear bond strength performed on a Universal lnstron machine 4301, with 500 Kg load and at 0,5mm/min. speed. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) determined that the treatments influenced the shear bond strength values (p<0,05) with the following average shearing load at failure: AL (9,96 MPa), F (7,28MPa) e LA (4,87 MPa). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the possibility to obtaining guided bone regeneration utilizing a nonporous PTFE barrier in the osseointegrated implants, protruding from the bone level of the rabbit tíbia. The histologic characteristics of the interface between titanium implants, one group titanium-plasma coated, another group with acid-treated surfaces and the regenerated bone were also studied Twenty Screw-Vent implants were placed in tibias of five rabbits, two at the right side and two at the left side, protruding 3 mm from the bone level, to create a horizontal bone defect. ln the experimental side, the implants and adjacent bone were protected with a nonporous PTFE barrier. Histologic analysis after three months showed that all implants were in direct contact with the bane. Histologic measurements showed an average gain in bone height of the 2.15 and 2.42 mm for the barrier group and 1.95 and 0.43 mm for the control defects, in the titanium plasma-spray and acid-treated implant surfaces, respectively. The results suggest that the placement of implants protruding 3 mm from crestal bone defects may result in vertical bone augmentation and the regenerated bone is able to osseointegrate implants. lt seems to be critical the use of the PTFE barrier when acid-treated surface implants are inserted

It is know that endotoxin and various matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are involved in the development of periapical lesions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and correlate the presence of endotoxins and MMP- 3, MMP-8 and MMP-9 in root canals of teeth with necrotic pulp and periapical lesion before, during and after the biomechanical preparation (PBM) using a combination of different irrigations solutions and intracanal dressing. Thirty-three single-root teeth with a diagnosis of pulp necrosis and periapical lesion radiographically visible were selected. Immediately after the coronal opening was collected the first sample from the root canal content. Then, all canals were prepared (cervical and middle thirds) by oscillatory instruments (EndoEze) and irrigated by 2.5% NaOCl. After, a manual preparation was made for the apical third and the teeth were divided into three groups according to the irrigation protocol: G1) 2.5% NaOCl (4 manual files); G2) 2.5% NaOCl (2 manual files) + [Ca (OH)2 0.14%] (2 manual files) and G3) 2.5% NaOCl (2 manual files) + polymyxin B (2 manual files). After the PBM, the second sample was collected; then the third collect was performed after using EDTA final flush. The fourth sample was collected 14 days after placing the dressing [2% chlorhexidine gel + Ca(OH)2]. Quantification of endotoxins was performed by a kinetic chromogenic lysate from amoebocytes of Limulus (LAL) and quantification of MMPs by ELISA assay. The results were analyzed statistically by Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn's test (5%) and ordinal Spearman correlation. Presence of endotoxin was observed in 100% of cases and G3 showed the greatest reduction of endotoxins from the 1st to the 2nd samples (97%), being statistically similar to G2 (84.2%) and different from G1 (49.4%) (p<0.05). The presence of Candida and the production of histolytic enzyms by the isolated samples were observed in the saliva and gingival fluid in adult chronic periodontitis patients and health ones. It was also verified the quantity of antibodies against Candida (IgG, IgA, IgM and IgE) in the saliva and sera of the same patients through ELISA technique. Yeasts of the genus Candida mainly C. albicans were isolated from saliva in higher number from adult chronic periodontitis patients in relation to the controle with statistically significant difference. The meon of the quantity of isolated Candida (UFC/ml) were higher for periodontítis patients, although this difference was not statistically significative. Samples of Candida isolated from both groups produced hystolytic enzymes (hyaluronidase, condroitin sulfatase, proteinase, phospholipase) that are considered patogenicity factors in periodontol diseases. Only one sample of each group (C albicans) didn't produce the four analysed enzymes. The antibodies levels against Candida (IgG, IgM and IgA in saliva, IgG and IgA in sera and IgG and IgM in gingival Fluid), were statistically higher in adult chronic periodontitis patients in relation to periodontically health individuals, suggesting humoral immune response by periodontitis patients to the yeasts of the genus Candida

This work tells the first steps of a larger project, that has for objective to develop the ergonomic evaluation of clinics odontologics installed in the Basic Units of Health of the municipal districts from São Paulo of São José dos Campos and Bauru. It is looked for to the end of the work to have characterized them, making possible like this the analysis in the way as it happens the interface among the users, equipments and atmosphere. For so much some will be used methodologies consecrated in the international scenery. It is told the results obtained with the first developed analysis, as test equal calibration of the chosen methodologies, as well as determination of procedures and worn-out times, for planning of the process.
