Política e identidade cultural na América Latina

O volume é o resultado de um seminário internacional realizado na UNESP no âmbito de um programa de formação redes de historiadores latino-americanos. O conteúdo se desenvolve em torno de duas questões fundamentais: as identidades culturais e a política latino-americana durante o século XX. A identidade cultural é tratada sob diversos ângulos, que vão do exame das representações da nação e do continente latino-americano, ao estudo da produção artística e dos meios de comunicação de massa. Por sua vez, os fenômenos políticos, as relações internacionais e a economia são estudados em conexão com o problema das identidades coletivas na America Latina. Os textos encontram-se organizados em três partes: Intelectuais e Identidades; Cultura Visual e Produção de Imaginários; Processo Político e Relações Internacionais no Cone Sul

Efeitos da Ventilação Mecânica não Invasiva sobre a Modulação Autonômica Cardíaca

This review is intended to gather together recent studies that explore the effects of different types of noninvasive ventilation (NIV) on the autonomic nervous system, assessed through heart rate variability (HRV). A search for papers was conducted in the PubMed, PEDro, SciELO and Lilacs databases with the following descriptors: noninvasive ventilation, CPAP ventilation, intermittent positive pressure breathing and autonomic nervous system, for the period between 2008 and 2012. After eliminating papers not addressing the topic, we selected six studies, of which five applied NIV in CPAP mode and one used biphasic positive airway pressure. In general, the findings suggest that NIV promotes changes in autonomic modulation that are dependent on the conditions of the subjects analyzed and the time when these rates are assessed, meaning acute or long-term effects.

Identidades e diferenças: o caso da guerra civil na antiga Iugoslávia

Abstract: The civil war in the former Yugoslavia (1991 - 1995) had a strong ethnicreligious component. In an attempt to maintain the cohesion of an artificially created state post-first World War, identities were sought and accepted - and institutionalized - the differences between the various peoples that constituted the "land of the South Slavs". From the 1980s the differences were highlighted during the war and taken to the extreme, especially in the territories of Croatia and BosniaHerzegovina. From literature and the author's personal experience and using concepts of culture, ethnicity, identity, difference, belonging, nation and state, the text shows how the ethnic-religious differences were used during the civil war in Yugoslavia to claim possession of territories, strengthen discourse of the impossibility of coexistence, overvalue potential threats and fear and justify the perpetration of crimes against humanity.

A universalidade da educação em Hegel

Cannot the education reach the universality? Is the universality the annihilation of the individual? Can the individual have his identity preserved as such in the State? Those questions are answered with the attention returned and led to the education. To Hegel the education universalizes the individual insofar as it introduces him into the life of the State in which the subjectivity and individuality are known in fact, preserved and promoted. In the Elements of the Philosophy of Right, Hegel deals with the realization of freedom in the institution of State and identifies it with the realization of freedom. The aim here is to reflect upon the Hegelian comprehension of State towards education, its meaning, signification to the life of the State and its possible repercussions regarding the figures of the subject and individual also nowadays. To Hegel the education supports the State as such because it is the process of the Sate’s awareness along its formation as a living organism. A State that knows itself is a State that is known by its members who do not reach neither the State’s awareness nor themselves’ without the relation that gathers them together as the substantial universality. The education is the means that brings the individuals to the life of the State. Bringing the individual to the life in the State, the education reveals the individual to himself as well as to his true nature, that is, a being in relation to others who are not but himself. The knowledge of oneself in the education happens also through its formalization regarding the specific contents developed and accumulated throughout the history. Here comes the figure of the formal educator through whom the State aims its process of formation. This way Hegel confirms that nobody learns alone and that the universal is precisely this relation.

Cardiovascular responses induced by acute video game boxing performance in healthy women

BACKGROUND: Previous studies suggested that some interactive video games induce cardiovascular responses. However, some different styles of video games have not been investigated. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to evaluate cardiovascular responses induced by video game boxing performance in healthy women. METHOD: We evaluated ten female sedentary volunteers, aged 20.9 ± 1.4 years, weight 58.7 ± 8.0 kg, height 163.2 ± 5.4cm. All subjects were weighed and measured. Their heart rate, blood pressure and lactate levels were recorded before and after video game performance. The volunteers played a Sony video game (Nintendo® Wii) by using the boxing method, in which all volunteers played for 10 minutes without interruption. At the end of the game the volunteers were reassessed using the same parameters mentioned above. RESULTS: At the end of the video game boxing performance we observed highly significant increases of lactate production (p < 0.0035) and the double product (heart rate vs. systolic blood pressure) was also higher (p < 0.0001). Both parameters indicate that the performance increased demands of the cardiovascular system. CONCLUSION: We conclude that a ten-minute video game boxing performance induces cardiovascular responses similar to aerobic exercise. This may be a practical form of exercise, but care should be exercised concerning subjects with cardiovascular disorders.

O retorno: identidades à deriva no romance português contemporâneo

This paper concentrates on the analysis of how the typical voices of History are manifested, which is achieved by the aesthetics of the contemporary Portuguese narrative, as it aims at the same time the reflexion and the reformulation of the Lusitanian cultural imaginary in the course of O retorno, a novel by Dulce Maria Cardoso. The hypothesis that arises is that the trajectory of Rui’s individual experience, as wells as the other’s characters “retornados” looking for identity, is parallel to the proposed revision of the Portuguese nation collective cultural imaginary in the decolonization context, after the 25th April Revolution. It is its objective to investigate how the historical processes concerned to the concepts of exile and uprooting, displacement and belonging (BAUMAN, 2005) are fictionalized in the novel, seen as motes for Rui’s pursuit for identity and for the revision of the Portuguese Destiny theme

Os paralelos entre a capoeira regional e os métodos ginásticos europeus do século XIX

Na Europa do século XIX, consolidava-se, entre outras linhas de pensamento, o científicismo positivista e a defesa médica da necessidade de saúde, retidão e disciplina dos cidadãos. Neste contexto, as atividades físicas naquele continente passaram a ser estudadas como pontes para se alcançar tais objetivos. São portanto criados os métodos ginásticos europeus a partir de atividades que se mostrassem efetivas para o desenvolvimento físico do indivíduo, como manifestações populares de proeza acrobáticas e exercícios militares. O fenômeno esportivo desse período conjugou-se com a influência dos sistemas ginásticos europeus e a visão positivista de corpo. Tal modelo consolidou-se como dominante no século XX e a Capoeira não foi exceção. Na virada do século XIX para o XX, o Brasil era um país que buscava sua identidade como nação em diversos ambitos sociais, como arte, raça, vestimenta, idioma, história e cultura em geral. No campo das atívidades físicas buscava-se também uma manifestação que nos representasse. E apesar de ilegal, a capoeira surgiu como forte candidato ao posto de ginástica nacional. Assim como manifestações populares chamaram a atenção dos criadores dos métodos ginásticos europeus, a capoeira também despontou pelos benefícios visíveis que trazia para seus praticantes. Muitos fizeram sua defesa até que Manoel dos Reis Machado, o Mestre Bimba, metodizou a capoeira de então para criar a Capoeira Regional Baiana, um estilo que, de acordo com ele, seria mais eficaz tanto como luta, esporte e forma de aquisição de desempenho físico. Este presente trabalho pretende compreender o papel dos bancos públicos brasileiros durante os anos 2000 a 2012 e sua relação com o desenvolvimento socioeconômico nacional. Adota-se a importância de estratégias nacionais de desenvolvimento, visando à atuação do Estado na economia para garantir o progresso econômico e social de toda a nação igualitariamente. Torna-se necessário separar o estudo em dois períodos, pré e pós crise econômica de 2008, a fim de observar a existência ou não da ação anticíclica dos bancos públicos no mercado de crédito brasileiro

Monteiro Lobato e a geografia de Dona Benta

It is commonplace to rely on the notion that thought is expressed from a historical and geographical context that reveals the special nature of the thinking subject. In ways and wanderings of thought, the literature shows up as a means both permissive and facilitating the possibility of expression of thought, from the written language, also depend on the temporalities and spatialities that concern you. Based on the identification of a dominant matrix of thought, given by comtean positivism and the neopositivism or logical positivism, a historical and geographical context imbued with the defining characteristics of temporalities and spatialities own perspective and written language as a medium and as support for expression of thought is that we propose to discuss the clues that identify the Lobato narrative expressed in Geography of Dona Benta, a work dating from 1935, an idea of space and nation. What notions of geographic space tells Lobato? What are your references to address landscape and territory? What representation of nation and national identity proposes in his narrative? Pursuing this aim, we seek to contribute to the substantiation of geographical knowledge from a critical effort of thinking about and doing geography
