Immunomarquage des collagènes I, III et IV, de la laminine et de la fibronectine dans la capsule cristallinienne humaine [Immunolabelling of collagen types I, III and IV, laminin and fibronectin in the human lens capsule].

PURPOSE: To localize collagen types I, III, and IV, laminin and fibronectin in the anterior human lens capsule. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Twenty-one anterior capsules were sampled by capsulorhexis during extracapsular cataract extraction (mean age 71.5). All capsules were labelled by an immunostaining specific for each antibodies. Immunostaining of four capsules was revealed with immunoperoxydase and seventeen using indirect immunofluorescence. RESULTS: Labelling of collagen types I and III was observed throughout the entire thickness of the capsule for each technique, the strongest labelling was found in the base of the epithelial cells with immunofluorescence. Collagen type IV was observed at the base of the epithelial cells whichever technique was used. Laminin could be detected in the inner layer of the capsule, using immunoperoxydase or immunofluorescence. No specific labelling was found for fibronectin using the two techniques. CONCLUSIONS: Different kinds of collagens have been found in capsules, more particularly the type III. The latter does not appear on other ocular basement membrane. Because of this uneven distribution in the capsule's thickness, each collagen might have a specific function.

CRESCIMENTO E OXIDAÇÃO DE EXPLANTES DE BANANEIRA PRATA (Musa AAB) IN VITRO: IV. CONCENTRAÇÕES DE SAIS, ÁCIDOS ASCÓRBICOS E FREQÜÊNCIA DE SUBCULTIVOS

Avaliaram-se diferentes concentrações de sais do meio MS (Murashige & Skoog, 1962), freqüência de subcultivos e adição de ácido ascórbico ao meio de cultura, objetivando o controle da oxidação de explantes de bananeira-'Prata' (Musa AAB) na fase de estabelecimento. Os tratamentos constituíram-se das diluições dos sais do meio MS (100%, 50% e 33,33%), subcultivos (a cada 7 dias, a cada 14 dias e a cada 28 dias) e ácido ascórbico (0 e 25 mg L-1). O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, cujos tratamentos foram arranjados em um fatorial 3 x 2 x 2. Utilizaram-se 15 repetições. As avaliações relativas à massa da matéria fresca, altura e oxidação foram feitas aos 28 dias após a inoculação. Quando o período de subcultivos foi maior (28 dias), o crescimento em massa da matéria fresca foi reduzido em função da redução da concentração de sais do meio MS. Para meios de cultura menos concentrados e freqüência maiores de subcultivos, não houve necessidade da adição do ácido ascórbico para a redução do escurecimento e houve uma tendência de maior crescimento em massa dos explantes.

La ley orgánica por la que se hace efectiva la abdicación del rey: ¿era la única opción?

La abdicación del Jefe del Estado es el acto que inicia la sucesión, siendo la proclamación del nuevo rey el que la culmina. La intervención de las Cortes queda, entonces, garantizada si se hubiera optado por un acto complejo en el que el rey solemniza su decisión de abdicar ante las Cortes Generales, reunidas en sesión conjunta y acto seguido el príncipe se proclama como jefe del Estado ante las cámaras y procede a realizar el juramento que le exige la Constitución. La sucesión, que es el acto relevante para el Estado, se inicia y se culmina en el Parlamento. Lo que debiera haber solucionado esa ley orgánica es cómo se traduce jurídicamente esta formalización, así como los requisitos a cumplir para su validez legal.

Thrombocytosis as a prognostic marker in stage III and IV serous ovarian cancer.

OBJECTIVE: Thrombocytosis is an adverse prognostic factor in many types of cancer. We investigated if pre-treatment increased platelet counts provide prognostic information specifically in patients with stage III and IV serous ovarian cancer which is the most common clinical presentation of ovarian cancer. METHODS: Platelet number on diagnosis of stage III and IV serous ovarian adenocarcinoma was evaluated in 91 patients for whom there were complete follow-up data on progression and survival. Survival and progression free survival of patients with normal platelet counts (150-350 ×10(9)/L) was compared with that of patients with thrombocytosis (>350×10(9)/L) by χ(2) and logrank tests. RESULTS: The median age of the patients was 66 years-old. From the 91 patients, 52 (57.1%) had normal platelet counts (median, 273×10(9)/L; range, 153-350) at diagnosis of their disease and 39 patients (42.9%) had thrombocytosis (median, 463×10(9)/L; range, 354-631). In the group of patients with normal platelet counts, 24 of the 52 patients had died with a median survival of 43 months (range, 3-100). In the group of patients with thrombocytosis, 24 of the 39 patients had died with a median survival of 23 months (range, 4-79). In the entire group of 91 patients there was a statistically significant difference of the overall survival and progression-free survival between the two groups (logrank test P=0.02 and P=0.007, respectively). CONCLUSION: In this retrospective analysis of stage III and IV ovarian cancer patients, thrombocytosis at the time of diagnosis had prognostic value regarding overall survival and progression-free survival.

Caracterización mecánica de rollizos de sabina (Juniperus thurifera L.) de Castilla y León. Prueba de clasificación visual y evaluación mediante resonancia

El present treball es centra en la fusta en roll per a ús estructural de savina turífera (Juniperus thurifera L.) de Castella i Lleó. En ell s'ha caracteritzat mecànicament aquest material, determinant la resistència a flexió, el mòdul d'elasticitat i la densitat. En funció d'aquests tres paràmetres s'ha assignat una classe resistent al material. S'han avaluat diferents classificacions visuals per agrupar la població en subgrups en funció de les seves singularitats visuals, caracteritzant mecànicament cada un d'aquests subgrups. Així mateix s'ha avaluat el mètode de freqüència de ressonància com a estimador dels paràmetres mecànics. Aquesta metodologia està basada en la lectura de la freqüència sonora del material, a partir d'aquesta freqüència s'han proposat models per a estimar el mòdul d'elasticitat i la resistència a flexió del roll de savina.
