Die Vermittlung des heimlichen Lehrplans im Klassenraum : - Beobachtungen zu genderspezifischen Interaktionen mittels experimentellem Design

Der heimliche Lehrplan beschreibt soziale Werte, Normen und Regeln, welcher als Sozialisationsprozess den Schulalltag beeinflusst. Die eigens für die Thesis erstellten Hypothesen fragen nach der Validität der Methode sowie genderspezifischen Interaktionen. Schwerpunkt dieser Bachelor-Thesis sind Beobachtungen in zwei Sekundarschulen. Das Untersuchungsdesign ist experimentell an den Erhebungsbogen von zwei amerikanischen Wissenschaftlerinnen aus dem Jahr 1993 angelehnt. Nach einer Pretestphase sowie Modifizierungsprozess wurde das gewonnene Material quantitativ mithilfe des SPSS-Programms und qualitativ durch die Inhaltsanalyse aufbereitet und ausgewertet. Die Hypothesen werden durch die Auswertung und mithilfe von Gütekriterien beantwortet, sodass die Methodenvalidität größtenteils belegt werden kann. Tendenzen für geschlechterspezifische Interaktionen sind erkennbar, allerdings schwer zu generalisieren. Im Fazit wird die Bedeutung des heimlichen Lehrplans sowie die Geschlechtergerechtigkeit in Schulen diskutiert.

On the design of peer punishment experiments

We discuss how technologies of peer punishment might bias the results that are observed in experiments. A crucial parameter is the “fine-to-fee” ratio, which describes by how much the punished subjects income is reduced relatively to the fee the punishing subject has to pay to inflict punishment. We show that a punishment technology commonly used in experiments embeds a variable fine-to-fee ratio and show that it confounds the empirical findings about why, whom, and how much subjects punish.

Competition with forward contracts: a laboratory analysis motivated by electricity market design

We use experiments to study the efficiency effects for a market as a whole of adding the possibility of forward contracting to a pre-existing spot market. We deal separately with the cases where spot market competition is in quantities and where it is in supply functions. In both cases we compare the effect of adding a contract market with the introduction of an additional competitor, changing the market structure from a triopoly to a quadropoly. We find that, as theory suggests, for both types of competition the introduction of a forward market significantly lowers prices. The combination of supply function competition with a forward market leads to high efficiency levels.

1st National Accessiblity Plan 2004-2012: achieving equal opportunities and full participation through design for all

According to official statistics, disabled people in Spain number 3.5 million and make up 8.8% of the Spanish population. This group of people are increasingly being recognised as members of society with equal rights, and many of their demands are gradually being transformed into solutions that benefit society as a whole. One example is improved accessibility. Accessible built environments are more human and inclusive places, as well as being easier to get around. Improved accessibility is now recognised as a requirement shared by all members of society, although it is achieved thanks to the demands of disabled people and their representatives. The 1st National Accessibility Plan is a strategic framework for action aimed at ensuring that new products, services and built environments are designed to be accessible for as many people as possible (Design for All) and that existing ones are gradually duly adapted.

Markup Test Reader: eina de creació i lectura de formularis de test

El projecte exposat en aquestes pàgines és un document d'estudi, anàlisi, disseny, programació i procés de proves en la confecció d'una aplicació de creació i lectura de formularis de test. Aquesta aplicació parteix de les possibilitats de millora de les prestacions, usabilitat i escalabilitat que poden oferir les tècniques de visió en computador en aquest camp. El projecte s'ha basat en un exemple en concret per tal d'oferir una eina vàlida per a la automatització de les tasques que en una empresa de recursos humans es poden donar a l'hora de gestionar la informació dels test psicotècnics que necessiten gestionar. El projecte parteix d'unes premisses bàsiques tals com: l'ús de tècniques en visió per computador, la modularitat, el compliment d'estàndards, la facilitat d'ús i la facilitat en la gestió de canvis.

Rational design of an organometallic glutathione transferase inhibitor.

Double trouble: A hybrid organic-inorganic (organometallic) inhibitor was designed to target glutathione transferases. The metal center is used to direct protein binding, while the organic moiety acts as the active-site inhibitor (see picture). The mechanism of inhibition was studied using a range of biophysical and biochemical methods.

Harmonization guidelines for HLA-peptide multimer assays derived from results of a large scale international proficiency panel of the Cancer Vaccine Consortium.

PURPOSE: The Cancer Vaccine Consortium of the Cancer Research Institute (CVC-CRI) conducted a multicenter HLA-peptide multimer proficiency panel (MPP) with a group of 27 laboratories to assess the performance of the assay. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: Participants used commercially available HLA-peptide multimers and a well characterized common source of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). The frequency of CD8+ T cells specific for two HLA-A2-restricted model antigens was measured by flow cytometry. The panel design allowed for participants to use their preferred staining reagents and locally established protocols for both cell labeling, data acquisition and analysis. RESULTS: We observed significant differences in both the performance characteristics of the assay and the reported frequencies of specific T cells across laboratories. These results emphasize the need to identify the critical variables important for the observed variability to allow for harmonization of the technique across institutions. CONCLUSIONS: Three key recommendations emerged that would likely reduce assay variability and thus move toward harmonizing of this assay. (1) Use of more than two colors for the staining (2) collect at least 100,000 CD8 T cells, and (3) use of a background control sample to appropriately set the analytical gates. We also provide more insight into the limitations of the assay and identified additional protocol steps that potentially impact the quality of data generated and therefore should serve as primary targets for systematic analysis in future panels. Finally, we propose initial guidelines for harmonizing assay performance which include the introduction of standard operating protocols to allow for adequate training of technical staff and auditing of test analysis procedures.
