Ecology of phlebotomine sand flies (Diptera: Psychodidae)in a focus of Leishmania (Viannia) brasiliensis in northeastern Colombia

The phlebotomine sand fly fauna of two coffee plantations in a Leishmania-endemic area of Norte de Santander, Colombia was studied. Regular insect collections using a variety of methods were made for three and a half years. Information was obtained on diurnal resting sites, host range and seasonal abundance for 17 species, of wich five (Lutzomyia spinicrassa, Lu. serrana,Lu. shannoni, Lu. ovallesi and Lu. gomezi) were far more numerous than the others, anthropophilic and present throughout the year. The behaviour of these and the remaining 12 species is discussed in relation to their potential role in transmission of Leishmania (Viannia) brasiliensis in the area.

En l'actualitat, el desenvolupament permanent de les tecnologies informàtiques, Internet i el diner digital, fan cada cop més evolucionades i sofisticades les operacions financeres des de i cap a qualsevol lloc del món, potenciant la propagació del problema del blanqueig de capitals. Són desmesurats i enormes els recursos financers que es generen i provenen d'activitats il•lícites, la qual cosa genera un gran impacte en l'economia formal. El present treball, explora i analitza aspectes fundamentals del blanqueig de capitals, centrant-se en el cas d'Argentina i comparant-lo amb el d'Espanya. Es desenvolupa en l'evolució històrica i dels processos, com s'ha anat modificant la legislació existent en aquesta matèria i s’avalua el seu impacte en l'economia.

Medidas cautelares en la Ley Concursal en relación con la calificación del concurso y la responsabilidad concursal: el embargo preventivo de bienes de los administradores o liquidadores de la persona jurídica

S’aborda, des d’una òptica processal, l’estudi de l’article 48.3 de la Llei Concursal relatiu a l’embargament preventiu dels béns dels administradors i liquidadors de la persona jurídica declarada en concurs de creditors. En particular, s’analitzen els problemes derivats de la connexió d’aquest precepte amb l’específic règim de responsabilitat d’administradors previst en l’article 172.3 de la Llei Concursal, i es fa referència a les diferents solucions interpretatives aportades pels òrgans judicials, doncs la de l’article 48.3 LC depèn en gran mesura de la concepció que es tingui respecte a la naturalesa i pressupostos de la responsabilitat concursal. Transcorreguts cinc anys des del començament de la vigència de la Llei 22/2003, de 9 de juliol, Concursal, i de la seva coetània, la Llei Orgànica 8/2003, per la Reforma Concursal i per la que es modifica la Llei Orgànica del Poder Judicial sembla adequat referir quin és l’estat de la nova legislació, reflectir com s’ha posat en pràctica, quins problemes ha suscitat i quines interpretacions han efectuat els diferents operadors jurídics. Centrem aquest anàlisi en una matèria concreta: dins dels efectes que produeix la declaració de concurs sobre el deutor persona jurídica, la nova font de responsabilitat que instaura sobre els seus administradors i liquidadors, i les mesures que propicia per assegurar la seva efectivitat, qualificades per la seva indubtable transcendència com una de les novetats més importants introduïdes en el nostre Dret per la Llei Concursal. S’estudia l’embargament de béns dels administradors societaris per assegurar la cobertura del dèficit resultant de la liquidació de la massa activa.

Naturally acquired antibodies against the major merozoite surface coat protein (MSP-1) of Plasmodium falciparum acquired by residents in an endemic area of Colombia

A preliminary baseline epidemiological malaria survey was conducted in the village of Punta Soldado, Colombia. Parasite prevalence and density as well as serological data were obtained from 151 asymptomatic children and adults. Fifty individuals were infected with Plasmodium falciparum. The mean parasite density was 184 parasites/mm3. Greater than 90 of the sample population were P. falciparum antibody positive as detected by the indirect immunofluorescent antibody test (IFAT). The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to detect antibodies against the major merozoite surface protein (MSP-1) of P. falciparum. In this population, anti-MSP-1 antibody concentration is acquired in an age dependent manner with equal immunogenicity to both the N- and C-terminal regions of the molecule. Infection at the time of sampling was associated with a higher anti-MSP-1 antibody concentration than that found in non-infected individuals. Further studies are planned to assess the role of immune and non-immune factors in limiting the number of cases of severe malaria seen in this population.

Genetic variability and differentiation between populations of Rhodnius prolixus and R. pallescens, vectors of Chagas' Disease in Colombia

Enzyme polymorphism in Rhodnius prolixus and R. pallescens (Hemiptera, Reduviidae), principal vectors of Chagas' disease in Colombia, was analyzed using starch gel electrophoresis. Three geographic locations were sampled in order to determine gene flow between populations and to characterize intra- and interspecific differences. Of 25 enzymes assayed 10 were successfully resolved and then used to score the genetic variation. The enzymes PEPD, GPI, PGM and ICD were useful to differentiate these species and PGD, PGM and MDH distinguished between sylvatic and domiciliary populations of R. prolixus. Both polymorphism and heterozygosity indicated greater genetic variability in sylvatic habitats (H = 0.021) compared to domiciliary habitats (H = 0.006) in both species. Gene flow between sylvatic and domiciliary populations in R. prolixus was found to be minimal. This fact and the genetic distance between them suggest a process of genetic isolation in the domiciliary population.

This text aims at showing the history of indigenous peoples’ mobilization in Colombia, the effects that it has brought about on Colombian democracy and political system, and the state’s reactions to their claims and actions. It will show how they have moved from class-based claims to a politics where identity claims have been central in their agenda and part of their strategies to negotiate with the state. It will also show the existing constitutional and legal framework that recognizes the rights of indigenous peoples, despite the context of persecution, murder, and forced displacement.

Two new species of the subgenus Peytonulus of Sabethes (Diptera: Culicidae) from Colombia

The adults and male genitalia of two new species of Sabethes subgenus Peytonulus are described from Colombia. The male genitalia are illustrated and the species are distinguished from one another and other members of the subgenus.

La polémica de los libros de texto de historia como caso de estudio en las relaciones sino-japonesas

En el año 1982, la prensa japonesa publicó que el Ministerio de Educación nipón había suavizado en los libros de texto de historia las atrocidades cometidas durante la Guerra del Pacífico mediante el proceso de autorización de los libros realizado por el gobierno. Esta polémica y la publicación del Nuevo Libro de Historia en el año 2001, han sido dos de las controversias que con más fuerza se han debatido y han influenciado las relaciones bilaterales entre la República Popular China y Japón. El presente trabajo de investigación analiza los factores que contribuyeron al surgimiento del debate sobre la interpretación de la historia en Japón y a la posterior expansión internacional de la polémica de los libros de texto.

Man-biting activity of Anopheles (Nyssorhynchus) albimanus and An. (Kerteszia) neivai (Diptera: Culicidae) in the Pacific Lowlands of Colombia

The daily man-biting activity of Anopheles (Nyssorhynchus) albimanus and An. (Kerteszia) neivai was determined in four ecologically distinct settlements of the Naya River, Department of Valle, Colombia. Differences were found among the settlements with respect to the mosquito species present, intradomiciliary and extradomiciliary biting activity and population densities.
