Phase 1: Florida's ocean and coastal economics report

This report was prepared for and funded by the Florida State Department of Environmental Protection with the encouragement of members from the Florida Ocean Alliance, Florida Oceans and Coastal Resources Council and other groups with deep interests in the future of Florida’s coast. It is a preliminary study of Florida’s Ocean and Coastal Economies based only on information currently found within the datasets of the National Ocean Economics Program. (NOEP). It reflects only a portion of the value of Florida’s coastal related economy and should not be considered comprehensive. A more customized study based on the unique coastal and ocean-dependent economic activities of the State of Florida should be carried out to complete the picture of Florida’s dependence upon its coasts. Las indicaciones de origen protegidas como elemento de diferenciación de los productos agroalimentarios: el caso del jamón en España

El origen es una de las estrategias utilizadas tradicionalmente por parte de los productos agroalimentarios para diferenciar una oferta de otra en el mercado. En nuestro país existen más de 140 Indicaciones de Origen reconocidas por la Comisión Europea que abarcan diferentes alimentos y bebidas. De todas ellas, las seis denominaciones de jamón existentes aportan casi el 15% del valor económico conjunto, aún suponiendo únicamente el 4,26% del total. A partir del análisis cuantitativo, y del desarrollo de un análisis DAFO del sector, se realiza una reflexión acerca del papel que el origen puede jugar como elemento de diferenciación y se ofrecen recomendaciones prácticas para incrementar el conocimiento y la notoriedad de las denominaciones en el mercado

液固脉冲流化床数值模拟和实验研究

对液固脉冲流化过程进行了数值模拟和实验研究。采用双流体模型和推广的Slis模型模拟了脉冲流化过程。比较了两种模型的联系与差异,得到脉冲流化过程中颗粒速度和浓度分布、压强分布和床高,以及它们随时间的变化,同时得到了脉冲流化过程中Slis波的传播规律。使用压力传感器测量了不同床高处压力随时间的变化,用数字摄像机记录了床面及颗粒浓度分布随时间的变化过程,与计算结果具有较好的一致性。

Considerada a mais importante de Sisson, esta obra teve tiragem reduzida e muitos exemplares foram desmanchados por antiquários que emolduravam os retratos, vendendo-os por alto preço. Segundo Borba de Moraes, "é muito difícil encontrar-se hoje em dia um exemplar perfeito e em boas condições" e que "só muito raramente aparece um exemplar à venda."

The Effects of Salinity, Temperature, and Food on the Growth and Reproductive Output of Polydora nuchalis Woodick, 1953

Polydora nuchalis Woodwick, 1953 (Polychaeta: Spionidae) is a protandric hermaphrodite commonly inhabiting intertidal mud flats in southern California. The species exhibits lecithotrophic larval development and adelphophagia. Reproduction of P. nuchalis was monitored for a year at four sites: Catalina Harbor, San Gabriel River, Huntington Harbour, and Malibu Lagoon. Females deposited from 11 to 31 egg capsules in their tubes, with up to 230 eggs per capsule. An average of 3% of the eggs developed into larvae: the remaining were nurse eggs serving as food for the developing larvae. Reproductive output was quantified by determining the number and size of larvae and nurse eggs for individual capsules. Significant differences among the four populations were found for all the quantified variables. In addition, two size classes of nurse eggs were found to exist in capsules from all of the sites. Egg capsules were found throughout the year at San Gabriel River, but none were found during the winter months at the remaining three sites. Size/frequency data for juveniles and adults of the Catalina Harbor population indicate an annual cycle of recruitment. The laboratory experiment consisted of a 3 x 3 x 2 £actor1al design with replication testing the effects of temperature, salinity, and food supply on growth and reproduction of P. nuchalis. Increasing temperature resulted in significantly increased survivorship, growth rates, and percentage reproduction. It also produced a significant decrease in the size of the nurse eggs and the volume of food per larva. The number of egg capsules was maximum at the intermediate temperature. Increasing the salinity resulted in significant increases in survivorship and Class I nurse egg size. Increaaing food availability produced a significant increase in the percentage of worms reproducing. The interactive effect of salinity and £ood level produced significant changes in the number of larvae per capsule and the number of nurse eggs per capsule. However, the number of nurse eggs per larva did not differ significantly among the experimental treatment groups. (PDF contains 129 pages)

En este artículo se explica que la feria es una herramienta comercial utilizada habitualmente en el área de Marketing Industrial y que, a pesar de las ventajas que ofrece, recibe diversas críticas. Gegenüberstellung von mathematisch-physikalischer Modellierung und Messungen an geschleppten fischereitechnischen Systemen

When drafting a new model of a towed technical system for fisheries (trawl, towed TV gear or similar), and also when measuring an existing and already tested system it is not easy to foresee of practical behaviour, which depends of various parameters. The measuring programme for recording all data needs a lot of time and money, and also has some limitations. Therefore we developed for such systems mathematical-physical models, which allow a complex calculation. Their real value, however, results only from practical verification. During the cruise no. 222 of “Walther Herwig III” in November 2000 comparative investigations for 2concrete systems were carried out. This was done in cooperation with the University in Rostock, where such models are being developed and computerized. One of the systems mesasured was a pelagic herring trawl and the other one the towed TV gear for underwater observations of the Institute for Fishery Technology and Fish Quality. The correspondence between model calculation and measurements was very high for both systems.
