Conducting polymers are excellent microwave absorbers and they show technological advantage when compared with inorganic electromagnetic absorbing materials, being light weight , easily processable, and the ability of changing the electromagnetic properties with nature and amount of dopants, synthesis conditions, etc. In this paper we report the synthesis, dielectric properties, and expected application of conducting composites based on polyaniline (PAN). Cyclohexanone soluble conducting PAN composites of microwave conductivity 12.5 S/m was synthesized by the in situ polymerization of aniline in the presence of emulsion grade polyvinyl chloride. The dielectric properties of the composites, especially the dielectric loss, conductivity, dielectric heating coefficient , absorption coefficient, and penetration depth, were studied using a HP8510 vector network analyzer. The microwave absorption of the composites were studied at different frequency bands i.e, S, C, and X bands (2-12 GHz). The absorption coefficient was found to be higher than 200 m -' and it can be used for making microwave absorbers in space applications

A new configuration that employs a conducting conformal strip to excite the low-profile equilaterial-triangular dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) of very high permittivity is proposed. As compared with the previous aperture-coupling configuration, the new configuration has a wider impedance bandwidth (- 5.5%) and a higher front-to-back radiation ratio. The return loss, radiation patterns, and antenna gain are measured and discussed

The electron donating properties, surface acidity/ basicity and catalytic activity of cerium - zirconium mixed oxides at various compositions have been reported at an activation temperature of 500 degree C. The catalytic activity for the esterification of acetic acid with n-butanol has heen correlated with electron donating properties and surface acidity/basicity of the oxides.

Alkylation of phenol with methanol has been carried out over Sn-La and Sn-Sm mixed oxides of varying compositions at 623 K in a vapour phase flow reactor. It is found that the product selectivity is greatly influenced by the acid-base properties of the catalysts. Ortho-cresol formation is favoured over catalysts with weak acid sites whereas formation of 2,6-xylenol occurs in the presence of stronger acid sites. The cyclohexanol decomposition reaction and titrimetric method using Hammett indicators have been employed to elucidate the acid-base properties of the catalysts.

An investigation on the physical and chemical characterisation of rare earth oxide supported vanadia is attempted in the present study. La2O3, Sm2O3 and DY2O3 serve the purpose of supports. Supported catalysts were prepared and characterised using various physico chemical techniques. A detailed investigation of acid base properties is also carried out. The nature of interaction of vanadia with lanthanide oxide is discussed and the effect of vanadia loading on the activity of the systems towards reactions of industrial importance is explored.

In the present work, we have tried to evaluate systematically the surface properties of sulphated tin oxide systems modified with three different transition metal oxides viz. iron oxide, tungsten oxide and molybdenum oxide. The catalytic activities of these systems are checked and compared by carrying out some industrially important reactions such as oxidative dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene and Friedel-Crafts reactions.

The primary aim of this work has been to develop conductive silicone and nitrile rubbers, which are extensively used for making conductive pads in telephone sets, calculators and other applications. Another objective of the work has been to synthesise and characterize novel conducting polymers based on glyoxal and paraphenylenediamine- poly(p-phenylenediazomethine. Conducting polymer matrices were developed from polymer blends such as poly(pphenylenediazomethine), polyethylene, PVC and silica and their properties were studied.

Surface acidity of phosphate modified La2O3,CeO2 and SnO2 has been estimated by titrimetric Method using Hammett Indicators.Mixed Oxides of tin and lanthanum have also been prepared and subjected to phosphate modification.Surface characterizartion of the samples has been carried out using XRD, surface area, thermal analysis and IR spectroscopy. Phosphate content in the samples has been chemically estimated. The catalytic activity for benzylation and esterification reaction has also been investigated.
