The synthesis, characterization, and electrochemical study of the Zn(II)-Al(III) and Zn(II)-Cr(III) Layered Double Hydroxides (LDHs) containing 2-thiopenecarboxylate as the interlayer anions are described. The LDHs were prepared by the constant pH coprecipitation technique followed by hydrothermal treatment for 72 h. The materials were analyzed by PXRD, FT-IR, C-13 CP-MAS, EDX, TEM, and CV. The presence of the organic heterocyclic anions was confirmed by FT-IR and the related solid-state C-13 NMR data strongly suggested that these were dimerised during coprecipitation. Accordingly, the basal spacing found by the X-ray technique was similar to 15.3 Angstrom, a distance coincident with the formation of bilayers of the intercalated anions. The structural organization of all the new materials was greatly enhanced by hydrothermal treatment, as shown by PXRD. The improved organization of the bilayered structures had a strong influence in the electrochemical behaviour of clay-modified electrodes produced with these materials, such as the diminished resistance to the ionic flow through the LDHs films. The reaction of TlTp' (Tp' = HB(3-mesitylpyrazolyl)(3)(-) (Tp(Ms)), HB(3-mesitylpyrazolyl)(2)(5-mesitylpyrazolyl)(-) (Tp(Ms)*)) with NiCl(2).6H(2)O affords Tp(Ms)NiCl (1) and Tp(Ms)*NiCl (2) in good yield. The compound 2 undergoes an isomerization process to form [{Tp(Ms)**}NiCl](2) (3) (Tp(Ms)** = HB(5-mesitylpyrazolyl)(2)(3-mesitylpyrazolyl)(-)) in 68% yield. Treatment of the tris(pyrazolyl)-borate nickel compounds 1 and 2 with alkylaluminum cocatalysts such as methylalumoxane (MAO) and trimethylaluminum (TMA) in toluene generates active catalysts for ethylene oligomerization. The compound 1 shows turnover frequencies in the range of (2.2-43.1) x 10(3) h(-1). Oligomerization reaction conditions can be adjusted that lead to selectivities as high as 81% for butene-1.

Chemical characterization as well as spectroscopical study of the L-histidine-europium(III) complex were developed both experimental and theoretically. Molecular mechanics (MM) simulation was performed in order to have indication of the compound structure and the Eu 3+ chemical environment. The Simple Overlap Model (SOM) was applied to predict spectroscopic quantities as 5D 0→ 7F 0/ 5D 0→ 7F 2 intensity ratio, 5D 0→ 7F 1 transition splitting and the intensity Ω λ parameters (λ = 2 and 4). Satisfactory results are obtained with 0.1 and 2/3 as the effective charges of the nitrogen (gN) and oxygen (gO) respectively, and their polarizabilities (α) depend on the distance. © 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. Aim: There is little information considering the framework association between cast clasps and attachments. The aim of this study was to evaluate the retention strength of frameworks match circumferential clasps and extra resilient attachment cast in three different alloys (cobalt-chromium, nickel-chromium titanium and commercially pure titanium), using two undercut (0.25 and 0.75 mm) and considering different period of time (0, 1/2, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 years). Methods: Using two metallic matrices, representing a partially edentulous mandibular right hemiarch with the first molar crown, canine root and without premolars, 60 frameworks were fabricated. Three groups (n = 20) of each metal were cast and each group was divided into two subgroups (n = 10), corresponding the molar undercut of 0.25 mm and 0.75 mm. The nylon male was positioned at the matrix and attached to the acrylic resin of the prosthetic base. The samples were subjected to an insertion and removal test under artificial saliva environment. Results: The data were analyzed and compared with ANOVAs and Tukey's test at 95% of probability. The groups cast in cobaltchromium and nickel-chromium-titanium had the highest mean retention strength (5.58 N and 6.36 N respectively) without significant difference between them, but statistically different from the group cast in commercially pure titanium, which had the lowest mean retention strength in all the periods (3.46 N). The association frameworks using nickel-chromium-titanium and cobalt-chromium could be used with 0.25 mm and 0.75 mm of undercut, but the titanium samples seems to decrease the retention strength, mainly in the 0.75 mm undercut. The circumferential clasps cast in commercially pure titanium used in 0.75 mm undercuts have a potential risk of fractures, especially after the 2nd year of use. Conclusion: This in vitro study showed that the framework association between cast clasp and an extra resilient attachment are suitable to the three metals evaluated, but strongly suggest extra care with commercially pure titanium in undercut of 0.75 mm. Clinical significance: Frameworks fabricated in Cp Ti tend to decrease in retentive strength over time and have a potential risk of fracture in less than 0.75 mm of undercut.

O objetivo do experimento foi testar a eficácia de diferentes diluidores, a base de Ringer-Lactato, Leite Desnatado, TRIS (hidroxi-methil-amino-methan) e Lactose/TRIS, na criopreservação de sêmen bubalino. Foram utilizados três machos bubalinos da raça Murrah em plena atividade sexual. O sêmen foi colhido por vagina artificial totalizando 71 ejaculados. Após a colheita, cada amostra foi submetida às análises qualitativas e quantitativas do sêmen. Os ejaculados foram fracionados e diluídos nos quatro diluidores. O sêmen diluído foi envasado em palhetas de 0,25ml e submetidos a um tempo de equilíbrio de até quatro horas a 5ºC, com posterior congelação em nitrogênio líquido. As amostras identificadas foram descongeladas em banho maria à temperatura de 40°C por 30 segundos e seqüencialmente avaliadas quanto a motilidade, vigor, lesão de acrossoma, e percentual de patologias espermáticas. As amostras também foram submetidas ao teste de termo-resistência, permanecendo incubadas à temperatura de 40°C durante 30 segundos, 3-5 minutos, 30 minutos, 1 hora, 2 horas e 3 horas, onde foram avaliadas quanto a motilidade e o vigor espermático. As características físicoquímicas, após análise do sêmen in natura, encontraram-se dentro dos valores preconizados para a espécie bubalina e satisfatórios para o processo de congelação. Após descongelação do sêmen, observou redução numérica estatística (p<0,05) na motilidade espermática, sendo que no sêmen in natura se observou 86,67±6,17% reduzindo para 70±6,92% em TRIS, 67,4±8,01% em Ringer/lactato, 67,09±9,03% em Lactose/TRIS e 59,7±9,05% em leite desnatado e ao comparar entre os quatro tratamentos apenas o Leite desnatado mostrou diferença estatística significativa (p<0,05). Após descongelação, o vigor espermático também diminuiu estatisticamente (p<0,05) nos quatro tratamentos (3,50±0,53 TRIS; 3,38±0,49 Ringer-lactato; 3,3±0,46 Lactose/TRIS e 3,25±0,44 Leite desnatado) versus (4±0,39 sêmen in natura) e ao comparar entre os tratamento, apenas entre Leite desnatado e TRIS se observou diferença estatística (p<0,05). Quanto aos defeitos maiores (4,15±1,9% sêmen in natura; 10,51±4,4% TRIS; 11,94±4,2% Ringer-Lactato; 11,88±4,8% Lactose/TRIS; 12,01±5% Leite desnatado), menores (3,81±1,2% sêmen in natura; 4,67±1,1% TRIS; 4,98±1,7% Ringer-Lactato; 4,93±2,0% Lactose/TRIS; 4,93±2,0% Leite desnatado) e totais (7,91±2,1% sêmen in natura; 15,18±4,7% TRIS; 16,92±4,8% Ringer-Lactato; 16,82±5,6% Lactose/TRIS; 17,11±5,6% Leite desnatado), após descongelação houve aumento significativo dos defeitos nos quatro tratamentos (p<0,05), e entre eles não foram observadas diferenças estatísticas entre si (p>0,05). Na fase pós-TTR, após 3 horas de incubação, a motilidade progressiva (TRIS 21,13±7,5%; Ringer-Lactato 20,78±7,4%; Lactose/TRIS 20,25±5,3%; Leite desnatado 20,12±6,6%) e vigor espermático (TRIS 2,04±0,5; Ringer-Lactato 2,07±0,5; Lactose/TRIS 2,02±0,4; Leite desnatado 2,00±0,5) não apresentaram diferença estatística entre os tratamentos (p<0,05). Quanto a intergridade do acrossoma, após a descongelação (Sêmen in natura 97,85±0,6%; TRIS 91,65±4,3%; Ringer-Lactato 90,46±4,8%; Lactose/TRIS 89,76±5,4%; Leite desnatado 90,56±5,6%), houve diminuição estatística (p<0,05) e quando se comparou tal parâmetro entre os tratamentos não foi observado diferenças estatísticas significativas entre os tratamento (p>0,05). Diante dos resultados observados é possível concluir que a congelação de sêmen de búfalo com os diluidores TRIS (Trishydroxy- methyl-amino-methan), Ringer-Lactato, Lactose/TRIS, e Leite desnatado mostraram satisfatória função de crioproteção na viabilidade espermática do sêmen nas diferentes etapas da criopreservação.

AgSIE was used for the direct analysis of folic acid (FA), with a detection limit and lower level of quantitation of 6.8 x10-10 mol L-1 and 2.3 x 10 8 mol L-1. The analysis in fresh and processed fruits was done without any sample pretreatment. In strawberry and acerola juices, FA concentration level values were below the method detection limit. FA was detectable in peach (77.7 0.4 mg L-1 and 64.4 0.5 mgL-1), Persian lime (45.4 0.7 mg L-1), pineapple Hawaii (66.2 0.4 mgL-1), pear pineapple (35.3 0.6 mgL-1), cashew (54.4 0.5 mgL-1) , passion fruit (73.2 0.3 mgL-1), and apple (84.4 0.5 mg L-1 ).

Total hemolysates of Synbranchus marmoratus Bloch, 1795, captured in Vitoriana, district of Botucatu, State of São Paulo, Brazil, were submitted to agar-starch gel electrophoresis on glass slides using 42 mM-Tris 1.7 mM EDTA-6.1 mM borate buffer, pH 8.8, for the gel and 10 mM borate-1.7 mM NaOH buffer, pH 8.6, for the cuvette. 2. 2. Three distinct hemoglobin bands were detected, with Hb I being of the cathodic type. 3. 3. Cellulose acetate electrophoresis in 800 mM Tris-2.1 mM EDTA buffer, pH 8.9, containing 6 M urea and 2.25 mM β-mercaptoethanol indicated the presence of four globin chains denoted α 1, α 2, β and γ. 4. 4. It is suggested that the probable tetrameric constitution of the hemoglobin of Synbranchus marmoratus Bloch, 1795 is Hb I (α 2 2γ 2), Hb II (α 2 1γ 2) and Hb III (α 2 1β 2). © 1986.
