A terminologia das Feiras de negócios: análise das variantes linguísticas

The trade fair industry has great relevance in the national and international economic environment and it is constantly expanding. The general objective of this work is to analyze the main linguistic variants found in the trade fair terminological set. Our research is based on the theories of Cabré (1993, 1999), Barros (2004), Krieger & Finatto (2004), Alves (2007), Barbosa (2009), Dubuc (1985), Berber Sardinha (2004), Babini (2006) and Faulstich (1998, 2001). For this work we constitute two corpora of specialized texts, one for English language and another for Portuguese language. Successively we performed a collection of terms using software for corpora processing. These terms were organized into two notional systems, one in English and another in Portuguese. Then we analyzed the main types of variants found in our terminological set. Among them, those who had higher productivity are the lexical variants, followed by graphical, morphological and syntactic variants.

Oswald de Andrade e Tarsila do Amaral: poesia e pintura modernistas

The objective of the present text is to establish connections between literature and painting through the comparison between Oswald de Andrade’s poem “Longo da Linha” and Tarsila do Amaral’s painting “Palmeiras”, both belonging to the Brazilian Modernist movement Pau-Brasil. To emphasize also the step taken by the two artists, in Modernism, against the previous academicism, C. S. Peirce’s semiotics theory will be used as analytic basis to demonstrate, in Tarsila’s painting, a path towards planarity and stylization to produce quality effects, closer to the shape and the adventure of senses than to symbolization, whilst for Oswald, this same path leads to the presence of visualization as composition factor.

Poética e Figuratividade: uma análise de Io (Ovídio, Metamorfoses, I, 583-747)

This paper presents the development of a scientific investigation that addresses the Latin text using theoretical concepts of Linguistic, Literary Poetic and Semiotic in order to focus mainly on aspects of the figurative expression. Therefore, the meaning effects raised by the perception through the reading of text were taken as baseline data to investigate the particular arrangement of language, responsible for expression of these effects. As a result of this investigation, a metalinguistic discourse was produced about the basic features of the poetic figurativity of the text. This analysis and description had a focus mainly on the first step of the procedures of figurativization, i.e., the figuration of the discourse, when a theme is coated by semiotic figures. In addition, reference notes were drafted to accompany the selected translation of support, with general comments about the culture (mythology, history, geography, philosophy, etc.), necessary data to an more comprehensive understanding of the text (these notes shall provide basic subsidies for reading the original Latin)

A divulgação do pensamento saussuriano no Brasil

The ideas of Ferdinand de Saussure (1857-1913) still stimulate keen interest among language scholars today, be it complementary or contradictory. Saussurean thought has become widespread, in a more or less explicit manner, in undergraduate and graduate education in the humanities. Since the mid-1950s, Saussure’s ideas have been introduced and debated as part of the training of first-language and foreign-language teachers, communicators, anthropologists, sociologists and psychologists. In the majority of undergraduate and graduate disciplines in the areas of Linguistics and Communication, from the moment academics begin to address the nature of human signification and communication, it is impossible to ignore Saussure’s reflections on language and parole. The aim of this study is to reflect on the transmission of the general lines of Saussurean thought in Brazil. For this purpose, an inventory and analysis are carried out of Linguistics manuals originally published in Brazil since the 1970s, with the aim of reflecting on their construction in terms of programming and persuasion, categories of analysis of didactic speech proposed by A. J. Greimas.

Veridicção e paixão na práxis enunciativa

The aim of this paper is to show how the methodological apparatus of Greimasian semiotics is applied to tackle discourse issues. In particular, focusing on the concepts of veridiction and passion, two specific discourse procedures, it is examined how these concepts are included in the enunciative praxis by analyzing two distinct texts: the short story “O cônego ou a metafísica do estilo”, by Machado de Assis, and the Nova Schin beer ad published in a Brazilian weekly magazine.

Lei Maria da Penha: uma nova forma de vida da mulher brasileira?

This article proposes an analysis of the Law no. 11340, August 7th, 2006, known as “Maria da Penha” law. The study is based on the theoretical guidelines of French Semiotics, mainly on the earlier studies conducted by Algirdas Julien Greimas and the recent developments in Jacques Fontanille, Claude Zilberberg and Eric Landowski’s researches, concerning the forms of life. In this regard, we verify whether the aforesaid law constitutes a new way of life of the Brazilian woman.

Algumas considerações sobre a poesia de Eucanaã Ferraz

The contemporary Brazilian poetic production is marked by a strong diversity in the forms of expression and the thematic contents that it makes circulate; it is found either turned to the critical reading of the Brazilian poetry‟s most traditional repertoire, or more concerned about the research of new expressive models afforded by language. Such constitutive diversity, which operates on the intermediate gradients between these two tendencies, finds itself underlined by the little orthodox practice of the production divulgation and circulation, that appropriated the internet and the poetic performances to compensate the low paper-based edition. What we have is a type of poetic dialectology which identifies the poetry readers group. Verifying the most regular procedures in the construction of the dialectology, through the work of Eucanaã Ferraz and João Cabral, is the objective of this paper.

Ignacio de Assis Silva e os estudos literários

This paper aims to honor the semiotician Ignacio Assis Silva printed by the intensity in all his activities, emphasizing mainly on the accuracy insightful essays, which made him not only one of the most important promoters of semiotics greimasian in Brazil, but one of those responsible for its development. It should be noted also that he served with dedication in the Postgraduate Program in Literary Studies FCL/Araraquara UNESP, including efforts since its founding. The program owes much to him and others of FCL semioticians for the healthy integration between programs, Linguistics/Portuguese Language and Literary Studies. The latter was even initially, a literature program focusing on semiotics greimasian. Join together with all his persistent interest in building a "theory of language", which deeply and tenaciously pursued in their classes and in their texts and can be detected in Figurativização e metamorfose: o mito de Narciso (1995).

A palavra poética de Arnaldo Antunes

This article reflects on Arnaldo Antunes‟ (AA) poetics. For this purpose, both the contributions of Fontanille and Zilberberg regarding tensivity, as well as some ideas of Tatit regarding song semiotics. The aim is to think about how the dance between enunciation and enunciate is structured in AA within poetical architecture as exemplified here based on the analysis of the poem “Palavra”. The hypothesis is that the tension between the two central nuclei of the poem, metalanguage and erotism, are the essential compositional marc of AA poetical stylistics. The results lead to the reflection that the musical tension is the game that guarantees the movement between the density of the word and the erotic fluidity of the authorial (metalinguistic) act of production.

A construção do ator mulher contemporânea em publicidades de Você S/A

In this article, we aim at analysing, from the perspective of greimasian semiotic theory, how the actor contemporary woman is built in three advertisements published in the magazine VOCÊ S/A in editions of years 2001, 2004 and 2011. Although we have chosen to organize the analysis in that order, the issue of time is not the focus of our work. Our focus in this work will be on the thematic roles of wife, mother, housewife, professional and “woman”, played by the actor who, entering in conjunction with the advertised objects, can be a fulfilled wife/mother and a successful professional or, even, can be “more woman”.

Acontecimento e rotina na figurativização da forma de vida da adolescente descolada, presente na revista Atrevida

D’après Greimas (2002), le sens se concrétise par le changement de rythme ou par une oscillation construite dans la linéarité du langage. L’étrange et l’imprévu, considérés comme des événements qui troublent la pratique habituelle d’une vie dans son parcours, entrent ainsi dans le domaine d’études de la sémiotique française. Le sujet a été discuté plus tard par Claude Zilberberg, avec la venue de la sémiotique tensive, pour qui l’appréhension d’un événement se donne dans le survenir. De plus, selon les observations de Greimas, pour la sémiotique, une forme de vie caractérise des manières par lesquelles les individus ressentent et expriment leur compréhension de l’existence à travers des façons de faire, d’être, d’organiser l’espace dans lequel ils vivent, etc. Devant ces présuppositions théoriques, nous analysons le reportage “Eu pego mas não me apego”, publié dans Atrevida, une revue dirigée vers un public féminin dont la tranche d’âge est de 15 à 19 ans, et nous discutons la manière dont l’énonciateur a configuré le simulacre de l’acteur “ado branchée”. Il en ressort que l’énonciateur a utilisé des stratégies verbales et qu’il met ainsi en discours l’idée d’un comportement qui parait transgresseur au niveau de la manifestation, ce que l’on peut caractériser comme un événement. Cependant, on notera la présence de marques textuelles implicites qui rendent possible un discours qui se réfère au comportement féminin traditionnel et qui caractérise une routine.

This text, homage to Ignacio Assis Silva, looks for the founding theoretical conceptions of his thoughts. When I looked at his texts, from the 70’s to the 90’s, my reading went through the path of an author who is always worried about revealing the birthplace of meaning. To catch this unique moment of semiosis, Silva proposes the concept of metamorphosis, a key-term which allows us to unite the two ends of his formation: Historical Grammar and Semiotic
