A indústria de amido vem crescendo e se aperfeiçoando nos últimos anos, levando à necessidade de produtos com características específicas que atendam as exigências do mercado, o que possibilita o processamento de matérias-primas amiláceas ainda pouco exploradas. O trabalho teve como objetivo analisar o processamento industrial de fécula de mandioca e batata doce. Através da análise da composição da raiz, fécula e bagaço, bem como do balanço de massa dos processos, objetivou-se estabelecer a eficiência de uma planta industrial de processamento de mandioca, para a obtenção de fécula de batata doce. Os resultados demonstraram que a fécula de batata doce obtida está dentro dos limites da legislação brasileira e que parte do amido não foi extraído no processamento, sendo gerado um bagaço com 79,94 % de amido e com composição semelhante ao gerado no processamento de mandioca que contém em média 80 % de amido. A comparação dos balanços de massa demonstrou uma menor eficiência da planta no processamento da batata doce (18,3% de rendimento), quando comparado com o de mandioca (25,5% de rendimento) com umidade de 13,75 % e 12,3 %, respectivamente, na fécula. A retenção de amido no bagaço indicou deficiência no processo industrial de extração independentemente da matéria-prima.

Este estudo avalia sistemas de reciclagem e de disposição de resíduos sólidos domésticos que possuem incentivos fiscais definidos pela Lei Estadual nº 13.803/2000 de Minas Gerais. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida por análise de documentação de licenciamento ambiental de aterros sanitários e usinas de reciclagem e compostagem de resíduos financiados pela referida Lei e por visitas às unidades sanitárias, sendo usados os instrumentos metodológicos da agência ambiental do Estado de São Paulo (CETESB) que avaliam as condições de instalação e operação desses tipos de empreendimentos. do estudo, constatou-se que o incentivo de Minas Gerais, definido pela Lei do ICMS Ecológico, traz importantes benefícios ambientais aos municípios, embora ainda seja reduzido o número dos contemplados por esse fomento à gestão dos resíduos sólidos urbanos. Conclui-se, também, que algumas das unidades estudadas apresentam problemas de natureza ambiental e operacional.

The aim of this study was to know the yeast biodiversity from fresh olive (Olea europaea L.) fruits, olive paste (crush olives) and olive pomace (solid waste) from Arbequina and Cornicabra varieties. Yeasts were isolated from fruits randomly harvested at various olive groves in the region of Castilla La Mancha (Spain). Olive paste and pomace, a byproduct of the processing of this raw material, were also collected in sterile flasks from different oil mills. Molecular identification methodology used included comparison of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplicons of their 5.8S rRNA gene and internal transcribed spacers ITS1 and ITS2 followed by restriction pattern analysis (RFLP). For some species, sequence analysis of the 5.8S rDNA gene was necessary. The results were compared to sequences held in public databases (BLAST). These techniques allowed to identify fourteen different species of yeasts, belonging to seven different genera (Zygosaccharomyces, Pichia, Lachancea, Kluyveromyces, Saccharomyces, Candida, Torulaspora) from the 108 yeast isolates. Species diversity was thus considerable: Pichia caribbica, Zygosaccharomyces fermentati (Lachancea fermentati) and Pichia holstii (Nakazawaea holstii) were the most commonly isolated species, followed by Pichia mississippiensis, Lachancea sp., Kluyveromyces thermotolerans and Saccharomyces rosinii. The biotechnological properties of these isolates, was also studied. For this purpose, the activity of various enzymes (beta-glucosidase, beta-glucanase, carboxymethylcellulase, polygalacturonase, peroxidase and lipase) was evaluated. It was important that none of species showed lipase activity, a few had cellulase and polygalacturonase activities and the majority of them presented beta-glucanase, beta-glucosidase and peroxidase activities. This paper investigates corrosion behavior in graphite refractory hot metal impregnated with ZrO 2 and CeO 2 carrying solutions used in Blast Furnace hearth, consisting of 50% graphite and 50% anthracite. Corrosions tests were carried out by means of finger test method in an induction furnace, using bar-shaped 30×30×280 mm test specimens and hot metal from CSN#2 Blast Furnace runner. The temperature chosen for this test was 1520°C and sixty-minute isotherm. Upon test completion, test specimens were characterized by their dimensional variation, X-ray diffractometry and Scanning Electronic Microscopy (SEM).

The aim of this work was to evaluate the ipê-roxo (Tabebuia impetiginosa (Mart.) Standl). seedlings behavior in different substrates and irrigation levels and also study the use of urban waste compost in the substrates. The experiment was conducted in the agricultural engineering department at the Faculdade de Ciências Agrárias e Veterinárias - UNESP, Campus de Jaboticabal, SP. The experimental design used was the completely randomized with 30 treats and 2 replicates, in a 15× 2 factorial arrangement [15 substrates and 2 irrigation levels (100% and 150% of evapotranspiration)]. The substrates were composed by different material combinations: urban waste, Plantmax, tanned cattle manure, vermiculite and soil. For the study of the seedlings development, the following characteristics were evaluated: the seedlings height (H) and stem diameter (D). Evaluations (H and D) were made on 90, 105, 120, 135 and 150 days after sowing. The statistical analysis showed significant differences between the irrigation levels. According to the results, we can conclude that urban waste compost did not increase Blake development. For tested irrigation levels, the statistical analysis showed significant differences with better results for the 150% ET irrigation level compared to 100% ET.

This research aimed to compare the development of four grasses species irrigated by dripping with an effluent from a domestic wastewater station treatment in a small rural community, and supply water from Sabesp. For this purpose, an experiment was conducted in a greenhouse at the FCA/UNESP (Botucatu - SP) for 12 months in a completely randomized 4 × 3 factorial design, with four replications, totalizing 48 parcels. Grass species used in this experiment were: Santo Agostinho (Stenotaphrum secandatum (Walt.) Kuntze); Bermudas (Cynodum dactylon); Esmeralda (Zoysia japônica) and São Carlos (Axnopus sp). The treatments were: T1- Irrigation with re-use; T2- Irrigation with re-use + chemical fertilization and T3- Irrigation with supply water from Sabesp + chemical fertilization (control). Data were submitted to comparison of means by Tukey's test at 5 %. The results showed that nitrogen in the wastewater was enough for the good development of the grass species. However, its use caused higher potassium loss.

This paper presents a brief review about site investigation procedures for contaminated sites recommended by Brazilian and Canadian environmental agencies as well as discusses the theme of geo-environmental investigation as applied to Brazilian practice. The main definitions on the theme are reviewed and some guidelines are proposed for conducting a geo-environmental investigation of Brazilian contaminated sites using different site and laboratory investigation techniques based on the presented review and on the experience obtained from the investigation of a solid waste disposal site in the interior of the state of São Paulo, Brazil.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of organic fertilizers (urban solid waste and swine manure) as a source of nutrients and residue from bauxite processing as a corrective of soil acidity, in area cultivated with sugar cane irrigated with potable water and served in the availability of phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg) and sulfur (S) levels in the soil and plants. For this experiment was carried out in pots, using a Alfisol, assessing the availability of the elements in the 0-20 cm layer and the concentration of these nutrients in the leaves of sugarcane. The data showed that the residues increased the concentrations of Ca and Mg in soil, as the concentration of K was not changed and S was not detected, due to the low concentration in the soil. In the leave +1 of sugarcane the residue of bauxite increased levels of N, P, K, Ca and Mg (15.68, 1.73, 10.43, 3.50 and 1.08 g kg-1, respectively). The application of urban solid waste and swine manure also increased the levels of N, K and Ca (11.56, 9.18 and 2.81 g kg-1, respectively). The quality of irrigation water did not alter the availability of P, K, Ca, Mg and S in the soil as well as the levels of these macronutrients in the plant.

Several factors have contributed to the increase the world production of urban solid waste, resulting in difficulties to the correct management and the final environmentally appropriate disposal, in addition to causing serious socio-economic, environmental, and public health troubles. The soil and groundwater contamination by leachate in waste disposal sites is almost always present, leveraging the emergence and/or adaptation of methodologies for environmental assessment of these areas. The geophysical methods, especially the electrical resistivity method, are fast, reliable and low-cost alternative for this purpose. This paper reports the methodology adopted for the temporal monitoring of the plume of contamination of controlled landfill in the municipality of Rio Claro (SP). Electrical resistivity data were obtained in 1999 and 2008, by the resistivity method, using the techniques of vertical electrical sounding and electrical profile. In both years, similar tests were carried out in the same locations within the disposal area. The results indicated that the plume of contamination has resistivity values less than or equal to 50 ohm.m and moves guided by 2 flows: the main, to the southeast, and the secondary, to the west. Relatively to the first series of tests in 1999, the plume of contamination was higher and deeper in 2008, contrary to what was expected for a landfill deactivated for at least 10 years.

Taking into account the current context about environmental concern, the main purposes of this research were to develop and apply indicators in order to evaluate waste residues management in airports. As a result, 17 indicators related to generation, storage, transportation, collection, and solid waste disposal were created. These were applied in Viracopos International Airport, in Campinas, São Paulo State, Brazil. The results obtained in the study had a 2.9 performance, in a scale from one to five, characterized as regular. Posteriorly, the main weaknesses in waste residues management were analyzed in such Airport, as well as good practices and solutions were identifed. The highlighted management strategies suggested were the adjustment of areas for waste storage, recycling, and residues composting.
