Il presente elaborato affronta il tema della discriminazione linguistica, i cui tratti essenziali vengono riassunti da Philippe Blanchet con il termine di "glottophobie". Lungo i secoli vi sono stati numerosi tentativi d'imporre una norma linguistica unica, a detrimento di qualsiasi altra variante. Questa stigmatizzazione ha portato e porta tuttora a veri e propri casi di discriminazione linguistica, nei quali viene impedito al parlante di utilizzare la propria lingua per esprimersi. In questo elaborato si è voluto analizzare il fenomeno della "glottophobie", tentando innanzitutto di darne una definizione e di tracciarne i tratti essenziali. Secondariamente, si è ripercorsa la politica linguistica nazionale francese, in gran parte responsabile di atti di discriminazione linguistica, compiuti per mezzo di vari strumenti, come la scuola, i media o l'amministrazione pubblica. Infine, ci si è soffermati sull'analisi dell'opera di Philippe Blanchet (Discriminations : combattre la glottophobie), con l'obiettivo di dimostrare, anche tramite esempi concreti, che la discriminazione linguistica è una vera e propria forma di discriminazione.
