Evaluation of the effect of complementary pollination on Actinidia deliciosa 'Hayward' in northwest Portugal

The objective of this research was to study the effect of complementary pollination on kiwifruit production and quality. For 3 years, complementary application of wet or dry pollen have been done at different stages of flower opening on vines in the Portuguese regions of Entre-Douro e Minho and Beira Litoral. Commercial production data were collected and fruit quality attributes were measured at harvest. Complementary pollination did not affect fruit soluble solids content or firmness in any year, and was beneficial for fruit size and commercial production in the third year only, showing that it is important in some conditions, when natural pollination is inadequate.

Using Research Methods in Human Computer Interaction to Design Technology for Resilience

Research in human computer interaction (HCI) covers both technological and human behavioural concerns. As a consequence, the contributions made in HCI research tend to be aware to either engineering or the social sciences. In HCI the purpose of practical research contributions is to reveal unknown insights about human behaviour and its relationship to technology. Practical research methods normally used in HCI include formal experiments, field experiments, field studies, interviews, focus groups, surveys, usability tests, case studies, diary studies, ethnography, contextual inquiry, experience sampling, and automated data collection. In this paper, we report on our experience using the evaluation methods focus groups, surveys and interviews and how we adopted these methods to develop artefacts: either interface’s design or information and technological systems. Four projects are examples of the different methods application to gather information about user’s wants, habits, practices, concerns and preferences. The goal was to build an understanding of the attitudes and satisfaction of the people who might interact with a technological artefact or information system. Conversely, we intended to design for information systems and technological applications, to promote resilience in organisations (a set of routines that allow to recover from obstacles) and user’s experiences. Organisations can here also be viewed within a system approach, which means that the system perturbations even failures could be characterized and improved. The term resilience has been applied to everything from the real estate, to the economy, sports, events, business, psychology, and more. In this study, we highlight that resilience is also made up of a number of different skills and abilities (self-awareness, creating meaning from other experiences, self-efficacy, optimism, and building strong relationships) that are a few foundational ingredients, which people should use along with the process of enhancing an organisation’s resilience. Resilience enhances knowledge of resources available to people confronting existing problems.

Na passada 6ª Feira tivemos uma aula magnífica ao vivo do Sr. Prof. Catedrático Doutor Costa Andrade que nos falou sobre “Crimes Tributários na Lei Vigente e Jurisprudência”. Sobre a mesma falaremos nos próximos episódios. É que o Mestre superou as expectativas mais optimistas e que já eram elevadas ao mais alto nível técnico. Cada palavra dava uma tese de mestrado e fartou-se de dar bofetadas científicas naqueles que julgam que as contraordenações são um fenómeno de somenos que pode ser tratado como se as mesmas pudessem ser desnecessárias, desadequadas, desproporcionais e de intervenção máxima, violando direitos fundamentais dos cidadãos. § What is Tax Fraud? We asked in the previous two weeks. We have responded as soon as the legal sciences and the Constitution permit. For today we will continue. Last Friday we had a magnificent live lesson from Mr. Prof. Professor Costa Andrade, who told us about "Tax Crimes in the Current Law and Jurisprudence". About the same we will speak in the next episodes. It is that the Master surpassed the most optimistic expectations and that they were already elevated to the highest technical level. Each word gave a master's thesis and was satisfied to give scientific slaps to those who think that the misconduct is a phenomenon of the same that can be treated as if they could be unnecessary, inadequate, disproportionate and of maximum intervention, violating fundamental rights of the Citizens.

10th European Conference on Information Systems Management

The 10th European Conference on Information Systems Management is being held at The University of Evora, Portugal on the 8 /9 September 2016. The relationship between the themes of Total Quality Management (TQM) and Social Responsibility (CSR) through the concepts, approaches and models of excellence is a reality of sustainable and stable companies. Being organizations, people, act correctly and rightly do in society go through a quality management and social responsibility thereof. It is based on these two philosophies (Total Quality Management and Corporate Social Responsibility), which developed this literature review work, essentially based on a relational analysis in two papers, namely: "TQM and CSR Nexus" by Ghobadian et al. (2007) and "The Corporate Social Responsibility Audit Within the Quality Management Framework," de Kok et al. (2001) and applied to an organizational situation in concrete: the Nabeiro Delta Cafés Group - SGPS, SA.
