The biological principles of osseointegration caused the rehabilitation treatment with osseointegrated implant become a safe, well alternative accepted by the dental community for the high success rate, allowing the preparation of functional and aesthetic prostheses in edentulous and partial patients. We passed the initial phase of functional vision for an aesthetic approach, too, depending on the demands of the patient and the quest for excellence by professionals. Over these last years, implant treatment has undergone many changes in surgical and prosthetic protocols. The less invasive surgical techniques and the development of restorative materials, especially ceramics allow the prosthetic rehabilitation of high functional quality and aesthetics. The installation of implants in sockets immediately after extraction of teeth involved by fracture, periodontal disease, endodontic lesions, is part of the arsenal of techniques for rehabilitating a number of advantages that we get to the outcome of multidisciplinary treatment. For this, we must consider several criteria in its planning as a fundamental unit, adjacent teeth, multiple losses, system, form and number of implants, type of retention of the prosthesis components, the patient expectation of the outcome perspective, gingival biotype, standard of ridge resorption, the smile line, etc. occlusal analysis. With the three-dimensional placement of the implant can immediately join the biological processes of repair of the socket, implant osseointegration, speeding treatment time. Much has been made by companies in the surface treatment of endosseous implants to be osseointegration shortened and restorative procedures started earlier, bringing benefits to the patient and professional. Currently, the dam of Salto Grande is very degraded. Water quality is seriously amended, and lack of riparian vegetation, as well as the advance of feed crops and land occupation in areas that should be permanently preserved, only complicate this situation. The permanent preservation area is essential for the water sources protection, soil erosion control and consequent watercourse sedimentation. Through aerial photography, using GIS techniques, it was able to identify the outwards bounds of the dam, to demarcate the permanent preservation areas and generate maps for land use. With this data, in addition to studies and ideas of reforestation in different environments, the development of a plan for restoration of degraded areas surrounding the dam is easier to be done. This study confirmed that about 72% of land use in permanent preservation areas is not in accordance with specific laws, making necessary its recovering.

This work proposes a wildlife center in the city of Presidente Prudente, offering a diversity of activities as part of a wildlife clinic, rehabilitation nurseries, parazoológico and a visitor center. This project will benefit both the people like animals, because in the same area is the rehabilitation of animals and environmental education, showing the importance of animals in the conservation and preservation of their natural habitats. The principle of the Wildlife Center is receiving wild animals, assess their status, provide veterinary care and give the best destination. The differential design is that people can follow all these procedures, encouraging reporting on contact with animals

Posterior teeth restorations have changed the contemporary treatment philosophy influenced by the aesthetic demand of patients, progress of adhesive material science and techniques for preservation and rehabilitation of affected teeth by dental caries and trauma. The development of Onlay restorations with semi-direct technique in endodontically teeth treated aims to preserve the remaining surfaces, to reduce the possibility of fracture and polymerization shrinkage. In addition, better restoration adaptation and marginal seal, resistance to wear and dimensional stability are achieved. This case reports the rehabilitation of an endodontically treated permanent maxillary first molar in a 13 years old- patient who attended the Araraquara School of Dentistry, Brazil, using Miris 2 Composite resin with semi-direct technique and obtaining an aesthetic and functional restoration in a single appointment. The fundaments and clinical guidelines of the procedure are detailed, based on the review of the literature that supports this conservative treatment.

The rehabilitation of edentulous areas with osseointegrated dental implants is a well-documented, predictable procedure in the literature, with high success rates. However, the lack of bone at the recipient bed or proximity to anatomic structures limits the rehabilitation procedure especially at the posterior mandible. Thus, short implants are an alternative treatment for such cases of severe bone resorption. The purpose of this study was to review the success rate of short implants, especially those based in the posterior mandible and to show a clinical case. A literature review was made on electronic databases PubMed and Bireme with articles published between the years 2005 to 2012, using the keywords "short dental implants". It was concluded that the success rates of short implants are similar to those presented by conventional implants but still related to their geometry and surface treatment. Also, short implants can be considered as a viable alternative for the rehabilitation of severely resorbed jaws. However, many authors consider that more research is necessary when a short implant is compared to a long dental implant.

Dental implants represent a great improvement in Dentistry in respect to rehabilitation of edentulous ridges due to the functional and aesthetic reestablishment with long-term predictability and success. However, the effectiveness of this treatment relies on successful osseointegration during the healing period. In this way, the applicability of dental implants in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) remains controversial, by the fact that the hyperglycemic status presents a negative effect on the osseointegration. It is not clear yet if the therapy with dental implants is an absolute contraindication to these patients. For this reason, the aim of the present study is to review the literature about the treatment with dental implants in patients with diabetes and to propose a protocol to perform dental implants in patients with diabetes. Diabetes has been considered a relative contraindication to dental implants, as the patients with adequate metabolic control can be treated with this kind of therapy, because inadequate metabolic control can lead to the failure of the treatment. Besides, there are risk factors for the diabetic implant patient that may decrease the success rates of dental implants therapy. In this way, the dentist should understand all the relevant implications before considering the indication of dental implants to patients with diabetes. It is important to have more controlled studies to evaluate the effects of diabetes on the implant-tissue interface and further investigations are necessary in order to elucidate the role of insulin and molecular mechanisms that might interfere on the osseointegration in patients with diabetes.

This case report presents details of a new surgical technique for mandibular ridge sagittal osteotomy and expansion associated to immediate dental implants in atrophic ridges. The bone atrophies represents a challenge for the surgeons that intends to modify this situation. In the past, the only viable option was the onlay bone graft. However, the bone graft requests a second surgical site that certainly increases the postoperative morbidity, without mentioning the longer treatment time required. The sagittal osteotomy of the alveolar crest represents a faster option, because it eliminates the time requested for bone graft integration, providing rehabilitation of edentulous areas with thin alveolar crests that otherwise would need additi onal surgical procedures for a satisfactory result. The authors report a clinical case in which this technique was used with the installation of a Bicon dental implant in the same surgical time, showing all the steps for this single-tooth rehabilitation.

Jaws atrophy represents a great challenge to Implantology regarding rehabilitation of edentulous areas. This paper reports an extreme mandibular atrophy with only 9mm of height between the mental foramina. In these situations, treatment options include bone augmentation techniques, transmandibular, or short dental implants. It is well accepted that bone grafts to improve height do not have good predictability. Besides, osteogenic distraction is associated with a great patient discomfort and transmandibular implants are related with high failure rates. Also, surgical-prosthetic rehabilitations with short dental implants had been associated to good success rates. The purpose of this clinical case is to report a severe mandibular atrophy, successfully treated with four short dental implants between mental foramina for implant-supported prosthesis.

The surface of dental implants is an important factor for osseointegration process and different methods of surface treatment have been described. Objective: To investigate the bone apposition in implant surface treated with sandblasting and acid-etching. Material and methods: Ten rabbits were selected and received one implant treated with method I in the left tibia and one implant treated with method II in the right tibia. Then, twenty implants were divided in two groups, according to methods of sandblasting and acid-etching (method I and method II). After 7, 14, 30, 45 and 60 days, tibias were retrieved and submitted to histotechnical procedures. The percentages of bone–implant contact (BIC) and bone area between threads (BABT) were determined throughout histomorphometric analysis and bone apposition was detected in implants of both groups. Results: In BABT measurements, an increase was observed after 45 and 60 days in the method II, compared to method I and no differences were found after 7, 14 and 30 days. In BIC measurements, an increase was detected with method II at 45 days when compared to method I. No differences between groups in BIC values were observed after 7, 14, 30 and 60 days. Conclusion: Our data demonstrated that implants treated with the method II presented increase in the contact between bone and implant after 45 days compared to method I. Moreover, with concern to bone area between threads, it was observed an increased in the method II after 45 and 60 days. However, both groups can be successfully used as a therapeutic strategy to rehabilitation of edentulous patients. Then, further experiments are needed to evaluate, in depth, the putative differential role of each surface treatment.
