This thesis comprises seven peer-reviewed articles and examines systems and applications suitable for increasing Future Force Warrior performance, minimizing collateral damage, improving situational awareness and Common Operational Picture. Based on a literature study, missing functionalities of Future Force Warrior were identified and new ideas, concepts and solutions were created as part of early stages of Systems of Systems creation. These introduced ideas have not yet been implemented or tested in combat and for this reason benefit analyses are excluded. The main results of this thesis include the following: A new networking concept, Wireless Polling Sensor Network, which is a swarm of a few Unmanned Aerial Vehicles forming an ad-hoc network and polling a large number of fixed sensor nodes. The system is more robust in a military environment than traditional Wireless Sensor Networks. A Business Process approach to Service Oriented Architecture in a tactical setting is a concept for scheduling and sharing limited resources. New components to military Service Oriented Architecture have been introduced in the thesis. Other results of the thesis include an investigation of the use of Free Space Optics in tactical communications, a proposal for tracking neutral forces, a system for upgrading simple collaboration tools for command, control and collaboration purposes, a three-level hierarchy of Future Force Warrior, and methods for reducing incidents of fratricide.

Para se conhecer a ação de misturas de alachlor com diuron ou com cyanazine para o controle de monotiledôneas e de dicotiledôneas em cultura de algodão 'IAC-17', foi conduzido um experimento de campo, em 1981/82, em Mogi-Mirim, SP, em solo com textura areno-argilosa, onde alachlor a 2,15 kg, 2,58 kg e 3,01 kg/ha foi aplicado em mistura de tanque com diuron, a 1,00 kg/ha ou com cyanazine a 1,00 kg/ha. Os herbicidas que compuseram as misturas foram empregados isoladamente, naquelas mesmas doses. Constaram do experimento ainda, duas testemunhas mantidas sem mato por meio de capinas e uma testemunha sem capina. Os 14 tratamentos foram distribuídos em blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições. Foram realizadas observações visuais de infestação de mato aos 14, 31, 45, 75, 82, 94 e 100 dias após a aplicação dos herbicidas. Quando, pelo menos, uma parcela do tratamento atingia 25% de reinfestação, todo o tratamento era capinado e mantido no limpo até a colheita. Foram consideradas também a altura das plantas, sua população e a produção do algodão em caroço. Os resultados obtidos mostram que alachlor a 3,01 kg/ha + diuron a 1,00 kg/ha conseguiram bons resultados de controle das plantas daninhas por período de 100 dias enquanto que alachlor a 2,58 kg/ha + diuron a 1,00 kg/ha, e alachlor a 2,58 kg/ha e a 3,01 kg/ha + cyanazine a 1,00 kg/ha persistiram com sua ação de controle por 94 dias. Os tratamentos com alachlor a 3,01 kg/ha, diuron a 1,00 kg/ha, alachlor a 2,15 kg, 2,58 kg e 3,01 kg/ha em mistura com diuron a 1,00 kg/ha, e ainda alachlor a 3,01 kg/ha + cyanazine a 1,00 kg/ha, apresentaram tendências a reduzir a altura das plantas, segundo resultados de suas análises pelo teste de Tukey a 5%, sendo que a testemunha sem capina apresentou altura significativamente inferior aos demais tratamentos. A população e a produção não foram influenciadas pelos tratamentos com herbicidas, sendo semelhantes à testemunha capinada e superiores à testemunha sem capina.

No ano agríco la de 1978/79 instalou-se um ensaio na área experimental da Escola Superior de Agricultura "Luiz de Queiroz", USP, em Piracicaba, SP, tendo por objetivo estudar os efeitos de reguladores vegetais, em diferentes doses e épocas de aplicação, sobre a cultura do algodoeiro (Gossypium hirsutum L. ). Os tratamentos utilizados foram: cloreto de mepiquat (DPC) nas concentrações de 84, 167 e 250ppm, cloreto de clorocolina (CCC) nas dosagens de 250, 380 e 450ppm e ethephon (CEPA) nas concentrações 1670, 3340 e 6880ppm, sendo cada substância aplicada 51, 65 e 143 dias após a germinação, respectivamente. CCC e DPC tornaram mais compacta a arquitetura das plantas de algodoeiro, assim como promoveram reduções nos parâmetros da análise de crescimento. O número de ramos produtivos e de maçãs não foi afetado por esses reguladores. Foram notadas algumas variações nos parâmetros de produtividade, sendo que CCC, DPC e CEPA tenderam a aumentar o peso médio de algodão por planta . Esses produtos não depreciaram os caracteres agronômicos do algodão, nem as características tecnológicas.

Scanning optics create different types of phenomena and limitation to cladding process compared to cladding with static optics. This work concentrates on identifying and explaining the special features of laser cladding with scanning optics. Scanner optics changes cladding process energy input mechanics. Laser energy is introduced into the process through a relatively small laser spot which moves rapidly back and forth, distributing the energy to a relatively large area. The moving laser spot was noticed to cause dynamic movement in the melt pool. Due to different energy input mechanism scanner optic can make cladding process unstable if parameter selection is not done carefully. Especially laser beam intensity and scanning frequency have significant role in the process stability. The laser beam scanning frequency determines how long the laser beam affects with specific place local specific energy input. It was determined that if the scanning frequency in too low, under 40 Hz, scanned beam can start to vaporize material. The intensity in turn determines on how large package this energy is brought and if the intensity of the laser beam was too high, over 191 kW/cm2, laser beam started to vaporize material. If there was vapor formation noticed in the melt pool, the process starts to resample more laser alloying due to deep penetration of laser beam in to the substrate. Scanner optics enables more flexibility to the process than static optics. The numerical adjustment of scanning amplitude enables clad bead width adjustment. In turn scanner power modulation (where laser power is adjusted according to where the scanner is pointing) enables modification of clad bead cross-section geometry when laser power can be adjusted locally and thus affect how much laser beam melts material in each sector. Power modulation is also an important factor in terms of process stability. When a linear scanner is used, oscillating the scanning mirror causes a dwell time in scanning amplitude border area, where the scanning mirror changes the direction of movement. This can cause excessive energy input to this area which in turn can cause vaporization and process instability. This process instability can be avoided by decreasing energy in this region by power modulation. Powder feeding parameters have a significant role in terms of process stability. It was determined that with certain powder feeding parameter combinations powder cloud behavior became unstable, due to the vaporizing powder material in powder cloud. Mainly this was noticed, when either or both the scanning frequency or powder feeding gas flow was low or steep powder feeding angle was used. When powder material vaporization occurred, it created vapor flow, which prevented powder material to reach the melt pool and thus dilution increased. Also powder material vaporization was noticed to produce emission of light at wavelength range of visible light. This emission intensity was noticed to be correlated with the amount of vaporization in the powder cloud.
