Considering the importance of zoonotic infections by Leishmania spp. and Toxoplasma gondii in Araçatuba region, São Paulo, this study determined the degree of knowledge of residents of Araçatuba about these two diseases. Questionnaires about these diseases were applied to 123 people. Regarding schooling, all the respondents were literate, and 69.9% (86/123) did not attend higher education and 30.8% (37/123) completed an undergraduate degree. Of these, 91.9% (34/37) knew the meaning of the term zoonosis, with significant difference compared to those who were not trained. This word was unknown by 57% (29/123) of total respondents. Most non-graduates, 59.3% (51/86) did not know what is toxoplasmosis and among graduates, 35.1% (13/37) ignored the subject.There were significant difference between these groups. Regarding the prevention of Leishmania infection, a greater proportion of the residents advocated environmental cleanup, the collar repellent and use of citronella. In relation to toxoplasmosis, 54.5% did not know the ways of transmission of this disease and among those with graduate degree, 13 ignoring any transmission medium. When it comes to prevention of this disease, 55.3% (68/123) did not know any prophylactic. In the group of higher education, 14 did not know how to prevent toxoplasmosis. The results of this study show that the majority of respondents are not aware about the mode of transmission of these diseases, especially in relation to toxoplasmosis.

The objective was to map the prevalence of nutritional disorders in children attending the 1st to 4th grade of 12 public elementary schools located in the 5 administrative regions of Piracicaba, SP, each with its own socioeconomic profi le, from 2003 to 2006. A total of 16,068 children, divided into 8,133 (50.6%) girls and 7,935 (49.4%) boys, aged 7 to 11 years, were weighed and measured. Their nutritional status indicators heightfor-age (H/A), weight-for-age (W/A), and body mass index-for-age (BMI/A) were compared with those of the NCHS/CDC 2000 reference population and classifi ed according to the z-score cut-off points recommended by the World Health Organization. During that period, the Western Region, which has the lowest socioeconomic indicators, had the lowest z-score medians of the three anthropometric indicators assessed (p<0.0001) and was the only region to have a higher-than-expected stunting prevalence (3.0% with Z < -2). Excess weight prevalence was higher than expected in all regions. The Central Region, which has the highest socioeconomic indicators, had the highest excess weight prevalence (6.0% with Z > 2). Time had a positive effect on the stunted children, reducing the stunting rates in the regions with the lowest socioeconomic indicators. In conclusion, the three nutritional status indicators showed results suitable to the social and economic characteristics of each region. Although nutritional disorders have particular characteristics, they are a problem to the entire population.

The scope of this work is the study of natural cavities in gullies through geophysics. The studied area is located in the city of São Pedro (SP) more precisely in the gully of Tucunzinho. The historic of the area shows that, since the 60s there were problems with the high rate of erosion in the gully. In addition to increased erosion, there is the appearance of cavities inside responsible for rebates, aggravating the situation. Geophysical methods have been successfully applied in environmental studies since they are noninvasive, are fast and relatively inexpensive. In order to better understand the context of formation of the pipes in relation to local geology, three arrangements were compared for the method of Electrical Resistivity, Schlumberger, Wenner and Dipole-dipole. Then, it was possible to determine which one is the best for this type of study. According to the data obtained in the field, the Schlumberger array presents more consistent results in relation to the erosive context analyzed

The development of cities is initially nearby rivers and with the intensification of the urbanization process occurs the soil sealing, leading to an increased level of water runoff, and, consequently, in a greater number of floods. The main goal of this study is to verify the interference of land occupation in the floods of the Lavapés Stream basin, Rio Claro (SP), in five temporal series, 1962, 1972, 1988, 1995 and 2014. The characterizations of land use were made from photo-interpretation and, thus, were produced thematic maps on scale 1: 20.000. The description of the Soil Conservation Service, 2007 was the basis for the classification of land use, thus achieving the CN parameter (Curve Number) used in hydrologic modeling done in IPHS1 program. The results indicate that soil sealing associated with the growth of the city of Rio Claro are responsible for increasing of the discharge in the Lavapés Stream basin and floods in this watershed

The water management in any area is highly important to the success of many business and also of life and the understanding of your relationship with the environment brings better control to its demand. I.e. hydrogeological studies are needed under better understanding of the behavior of an aquifer, so that its management is done so as not to deplete or harm it. The objective of this work is the numerical modeling in transient regime of a portion of the Rio Claro aquifer formation in order to get answers about its hydrogeological parameters, its main flow direction and also its most sensitive parameters. A literature review and conceptual characterization of the aquifer, combined with field campaigns and monitoring of local water level (NA), enabled the subsequent construction of the mathematical model by finite elements method, using the FEFLOW 6.1 ® computational algorithm. The study site includes the campus of UNESP and residential and industrial areas of Rio Claro city. Its area of 9.73 km ² was divided into 318040 triangular elements spread over six layers, totaling a volume of 0.25 km³. The local topography and geological contacts were obtained from previous geological and geophysical studies as well as profiles of campus wells and SIAGAS / CPRM system. The seven monitoring wells on campus were set up as observation points for calibration and checking of the simulation results. Sampling and characterization of Rio Claro sandstones shows up a high hydrological and lithological heterogeneity for the aquifer formation. The simulation results indicate values of hydraulic conductivity between 10-6 and 10-4 m / s, getting the Recharge/Rainfall simulation in transient ratio at 13%. Even with the simplifications imposed on the model, it was able to represent the fluctuations of local NA over a year of monitoring. O presente trabalho se refere à análise dos Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais na área de Matemática no ensino fundamental e sua inserção na disciplina de Conteúdos, Metodologia e Prática do Ensino de Matemática no curso de Licenciatura Plena em Pedagogia da Universidade Estadual Paulista, em Rio Claro/SP. Os Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais a serem utilizados na pesquisa foram produzidos em 1997, enquanto que o programa de ensino de disciplina teve sua elaboração em 2006, sendo ainda vigentes. A pesquisa tem como objetivo evidenciar e detalhar a proposta de cada um destes documentos para verificar sua compatibilidade de modo a entender em que se fundamenta a formação de pedagogos acerca da área de Matemática e a atual necessidade para o ensino fundamental. A pesquisa foi complementada através da pesquisa bibliográfica, com abordagem qualitativa em autores que cerceiam o tema, além de legislações que contribuem, de modo que o debate literário colabore com a Educação uma vez que analisa o conteúdo estudado na graduação e sua compatibilidade com os parâmetros utilizados na faixa etária em que irá atuar

A produção de alimentos é uma atividade essencial para a existência humana que demanda efetivamente muita água. A chuva é a sua principal fonte e, na falta desta, a irrigação supre essa necessidade, de forma parcial ou integral. A proposta do presente trabalho é levantar informações quantitativas e qualitativas a respeito de pequenas e médias propriedades da região de Presidente Prudente - SP que praticam a agricultura irrigada e apresentar, com base nos dados obtidos em pesquisa de campo, a importância da irrigação na região. Nesta pesquisa, no total foram entrevistados 28 produtores da região. Quanto à gestão do sistema, a pesquisa mostrou que poucos produtores detêm conhecimento e controle de informações para avaliar o incremento em relação à produtividade e a renda. Custos de implantação e manutenção dos sistemas, custo com energia elétrica e dificuldades com reposição de peças desgastadas e/ou danificadas, são apontadas como entraves no processo produtivo quando se utiliza algum sistema de irrigação. Já em relação ao grau de satisfação dos produtores quanto aos sistemas de irrigação que se encontram instalados em suas propriedades, o resultado é bastante positivo. Além do aumento de produtividade e aumento de renda, os produtores pontuaram benefícios tais como a possibilidade de sustentar suas famílias com uma pequena área de plantio, a permanência do homem no campo e a possibilidade de produzir em épocas de seca.
