Hierarchical categorisation of tags for delicious

In the scenario of social bookmarking, a user browsing the Web bookmarks web pages and assigns free-text labels (i.e., tags) to them according to their personal preferences. In this technical report, we approach one of the practical aspects when it comes to represent users' interests from their tagging activity, namely the categorization of tags into high-level categories of interest. The reason is that the representation of user profiles on the basis of the myriad of tags available on the Web is certainly unfeasible from various practical perspectives; mainly concerning the unavailability of data to reliably, accurately measure interests across such fine-grained categorisation, and, should the data be available, its overwhelming computational intractability. Motivated by this, our study presents the results of a categorization process whereby a collection of tags posted at Delicious #http://delicious.com# are classified into 200 subcategories of interest.

Multiculturalitat i interculturalitat en la Història de Catalunya

La finalitat de la recerca, concebuda com a recerca aplicada ha consistit en confegir un manual d’història de Catalunya (Catalunya+suma) especialment destinat a la immigració. El treball havia de contextualizar aspectes generals d’història política, social i cultural (endògenes), amb les aportacions, ètniques i culturals (exògenes) rebudes a Catalunya al llarg del temps i que han configurat al capdavall la societat catalana, entesa com a formació cultural i socio-política, les variables de la qual han estat en contínua coevolució. Per tant tractar la dialèctica de com, en un període de temps, les aportacions exògenes és converteixen en endògenes, i sempre en una perspectiva temporal i històrica, ha estat l’objectiu del treball. La recerca bibliogràfica i la transposició didàctica han estat les principals components metodològiques. S’han tingut especialment en compte les aportacions de la historiografia contemporània, tot i que s’ha fet un esforç per integrar coneixement generat dels del punt de vista de l’arqueologia i l’antropologia, història de l’art, sociologia, etc. Pel que fa a la recerca didàctica el tret més important ha estat, precisament, el procés de transposició didàctica destinat a convertir el saber disciplinar en saber comprensible. El projecte “Multiculturalitat i interculturalitat en la Història de Catalunya” ha generat un estudi històric i didàctic de síntesi sobre història del país que es concreta en el manual “Catalunya+Suma”. Es tracta d’un manual d‘història de Catalunya dirigit a un horitzó d’ampli espectre i de manera molt especial als immigrants. Cal destacar també que el treball te un caràcter inicial i iniciàtic i que te possibilitats de desenvolupament posterior a partir de l’elaboració de materials didàctics i guies patrimonials expressament adreçada a la immigració i entorns afins. El manual “Catalunya+suma" vol incidir, prioritàriament en la formació inicial i permanent de la immigració, i en els espais formals, i no formals, d’ensenyament i aprenentatge.

N-dimensional dynamical systems exploiting instabilities in full

We report experimental and numerical results showing how certain N-dimensional dynamical systems are able to exhibit complex time evolutions based on the nonlinear combination of N-1 oscillation modes. The experiments have been done with a family of thermo-optical systems of effective dynamical dimension varying from 1 to 6. The corresponding mathematical model is an N-dimensional vector field based on a scalar-valued nonlinear function of a single variable that is a linear combination of all the dynamic variables. We show how the complex evolutions appear associated with the occurrence of successive Hopf bifurcations in a saddle-node pair of fixed points up to exhaust their instability capabilities in N dimensions. For this reason the observed phenomenon is denoted as the full instability behavior of the dynamical system. The process through which the attractor responsible for the observed time evolution is formed may be rather complex and difficult to characterize. Nevertheless, the well-organized structure of the time signals suggests some generic mechanism of nonlinear mode mixing that we associate with the cluster of invariant sets emerging from the pair of fixed points and with the influence of the neighboring saddle sets on the flow nearby the attractor. The generation of invariant tori is likely during the full instability development and the global process may be considered as a generalized Landau scenario for the emergence of irregular and complex behavior through the nonlinear superposition of oscillatory motions

La partprincipal del document, un projecte de construcció d’una nau industrial iuna altra part secundària que és un projecte d’instal•lacions de la nauindustrial objecte del projecte de construcció.En el projecte de construcció s’estudia la construcció d’una edificacióindustrial destinada a la recuperació de palets de fusta. En el projecte deconstrucció es dissenya a partir de les característiques del terreny, lesnecessitats del client i els requeriments de l’activitat, una nau industriald’estructura mixta de formigó. Una part de l’estructura està formada perelements estructurals prefabricats per una empresa externa mentre, qued’altres elements estructurals, com és el cas de les sabates de fonamentació,es fabriquen a l’obra

Con el título “El trabajo en equipo, la planificación y concertación de servicios en la práctica profesional” se presenta la experiencia formativa que se desarrolla en el segundo curso de la Diplomatura de Educación Social con la intención de que los estudiantes investiguen y reflexionen sobre la práctica de la planificación socioeducativa en un contexto de concurso público para la concertación de un servicio.

Aquest treball estudia els fenòmens de contacte de llengües que apareixen a la llengua oral catalana d'una mostra d'adolescents de primera llengua castellana de Manlleu en dos punts temporals (6è de primària i 1r d'ESO) i compara els resultats obtinguts amb dos estudis precedents (Vila, 1996; Galindo, 2006)

Nuevo disipador para edificación sismorresistente. 1ª parte: caracterización y modelos de predicción

A new energy dissipator, based on yielding of steel under shear response, has been developed and recently tested. It is H shaped and web stiffened. Yielding moin part is mechanized from one piece of rectangular shoped steel bar. Its conception let obtain thin and well-stiffened web cross sections without welded parts. Main experimentally obtained charecteristics are a yielding point near 0.5 mm of displacement, yielding loads between 14 kN and 20 kN and a dissipated energy, before damage appears in the web, from 10 kJ to 21 kJ. All tested specimens have developed large deformations without web buckling. Whe web degradation appers, flanges and stiffeners keep dissipating an important amount of energy. Proposed numerical models and simple mathematical expressions offer well correlated results when compared to the experimental ones

Simulación de concurso público como innovación docente

La presente experiencia se ubica en el marco de prácticum (espacio de grupo reducido de estudiantes y teórico-práctico) de la diplomatura de educación social de la Facultad de Educación Social y Trabajo Social Pere Tarrés (Universidad Ramon Llull). La propuesta se hizo de manera simultánea en cada uno de los 5 grupos que conforman todo el segundo curso de esta titulación. La propuesta presentada constituía uno de los trabajos de esta asignatura. El estudiante realizó también un trabajo individual que no describiremos. El encargo consistía en la búsqueda y diseño de instrumentos para la gestión socioeducativa de una casa de acogida para mujeres en situación de maltrato con el fin de optimizar el funcionamiento del dispositivo. El encargo de estas herramientas se hace bajo un supuesto generalista para este tipo de dispositivos sociales, teniendo en cuenta que pueden haber otras herramientas pero que, en todo caso, éstas son las fundamentales o las más utilizadas. Las herramientas que se pidieron fueron las siguientes: Proyecto Educativo,Reglamento de Régimen Interno, Proyecto Educativo Individualizado, Evaluación y Memoria, Programas, Protocolos (entrada y salida), Herramientas de coordinación, y Expediente Educandos.

The histone deactylase SIRT6 is a novel tumor suppressor that regulates cancer metabolism.

Report for the scientific sojourn carried out at the University of Aarhus, Denmark, from 2010 to 2012. Reprogramming of cellular metabolism is a key process during tumorigenesis. This metabolic adaptation is required in order to sustain the energetic and anabolic demands of highly proliferative cancer cells. Despite known for decades (Warburg effect), the precise molecular mechanisms regulating this switch remained unexplored. We have identify SIRT6 as a novel tumor suppressor that regulates aerobic glycolysis in cancer cells. Importantly, loss of this sirtuin in non-transformed cells leads to tumor formation without activation of known oncogenes, indicating that SIRT6 functions as a first-hit tumor suppressor. Furthermore, transformed SIRT6-deficient cells display increased glycolysis and tumor growth in vivo, suggesting that SIRT6 plays a role in both establishment and maintenance of cancer. We provide data demonstrating that the glycolytic switch towards aerobic glycolysis is the main driving force for tumorigenesis in SIRT6-deficient cells, since inhibition of glycolysis in these cells abrogates their tumorigenic potential. By using a conditional SIRT6-targeted allele, we show that deletion of SIRT6 in vivo increases the number, size and aggressiveness of tumors, thereby confirming a role of SIRT6 as a tumor suppressor in vivo. In addition, we describe a new role for SIRT6 as a regulator of ribosome biogenesis by co-repressing MYC transcriptional activity. Therefore, by repressing glycolysis and ribosomal gene expression, SIRT6 inhibits tumor establishment and progression. Further validating these data, SIRT6 is selectively downregulated in several human cancers, and expression levels of SIRT6 predict both prognosis and tumor-free survival rates, highlighting SIRT6 as a critical modulator of cancer metabolism. Our results provide a potential Achilles’ hill to tackle cancer metabolism.

Nuevo disipador para edificación sismorresistente. 2ª parte: comportamiento de estructures duales de un grado de libertad con disipadores

The behaviour of a new elastoplastic shear link dissipator has been analysed in the first part of this paper. The second part describes experimental and numerical studies for a SDOF non-standard dual system protected with shear dissipators. High and intermediate stiff deal systems with this Device have presented smaller values of the shear base force and the interstory drift when compared to linear and elastic systems response. It has been appreciated that most of introduced energy is dissipated when a low ratio between the main frame stiffness and dissipation system stiffness is hold. It has been also observed that a higher ratio between the dissipator yielding force and the total mass drives to a more reduced structural response. Finally is has been appreciated than the absorbed energy might be predicted using the velocity pseudo-spectra and an effective fundamental period, that has been defined by using the minimum secant stiffness of dual system

Els apareguts i el culte de les ànimes del Purgatori (segles XIV-XVII). Estudi i edició de textos catalans

Report for the scientific sojourn carried out at the Institut National d'Histoire de l'Art (INHA), France, from 2010 to 2012. It has focused on the analysis and editing of tales of human apparitions from the other world belonging to the Catalan culture or referring to it. We have studied and edited different versions of the process of Esperança Alegre (Lleida, 1500) and the Peregrinació del Venturós Pelegrí. These medieval works have been preserved in sources of the late sixteenth century or later. We have located a manuscript of the Esperança Alegre's tale, unknown to us at the beginning of this research (Biblioteca Nacional de España, ms. 1701), which differs from the version of ms. Baluze 238 of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. The scribe of the ms. 1701 adds several paragraphs where considers the case as a diabolical phantasmagoria. About the Venturós Pelegrí, we have tried to establish firm criteria for the classification of many editions from the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries. We have been looking for printed books in the libràries of the world and we have made several requests for photographic reproductions, in order to classify undated editions by comparing woodcuts and other decorative elements. In the legend of Prince Charles of Viana (1421-1461), the appearances of his ghost are accompanied by rumors of his poisoning and of his sanctity. In addition, we have studied the cycles of masses for the souls in Purgatory linked to the hagiographies of St. Amadour and St. Vincent Ferrer, as well as the appearances described in L'Ànima d’Oliver of Francesc Moner, in the Carmelite chronicles of Father John of St. Joseph (1642-1718) and in some folktales collected from the eighteenth to the twentieth century. All this have allowed us to verify the evolution of certain cultural paradigms since the Middle Ages to the present.

The equity core and the Lorenz-maximal allocations in the equal division core

In this paper, we characterize the non-emptiness of the equity core (Selten, 1978) and provide a method, easy to implement, for computing the Lorenz-maximal allocations in the equal division core (Dutta-Ray, 1991). CO2 emissions embodied in international trade: A multiregional Inputoutput model for Spain

As a result of globalization and free trade agreements, international trade is enormously growing and inevitably putting more pressure on the environment over the last few decades. This has drawn the attention of both environmentalist and economist in response to the ever growing concerns of climate change and urgent need of international action for its mitigation. In this work we aim at analyzing the implication of international trade in terms of CO2 between Spain and its important partners using a multi-regional input-output (MRIO) model. A fully integrated 13 regions MRIO model is constructed to examine the pollution responsibility of Spain both from production and consumption perspectives. The empirical results show that Spain is a net importer of CO2 emissions which is equivalent to 29% of its emission due to production. Even though the leading partner with regard to import values are countries such as Germany, France, Italy and Great Britain, the CO2 embodied due to trade with China takes the largest share. This is mainly due to the importation of energy intensive products from China coupled with Chinese poor energy mix which is dominated by coal-power plant. The largest portion (67%) of the global imported CO2 emissions is due to intermediate demand requirements by production sectors. Products such as Motor vehicles, chemicals, a variety of machineries and equipments, textile and leather products, construction materials are the key imports that drive the emissions due to their production in the respective exporting countries. Being at its peak in 2005, the Construction sector is the most responsible activity behind both domestic and imported emissions.
