Mineral and chemical compositions of highly ferruginous layered silicates (HLS) of glauconite sands occurred on the East Korean Rise outside volcanic structures and on an unnamed volcano and the Chentsov Volcano have been studied. The use of cluster and discriminant analyses has resulted to more objectively distinguished groups among HLS, and the use of factor analysis - to illustrate correlations between chemical elements in different groups. It has been found that green mineral assemblages of the East Korean Rise are heterogeneous in terms of morphology, composition and origin, and their formation is a complex multistage process including both neoformation and degradation.

Phosphorus content in the surface layer of bottom sediments varies from 0.07% to 0.73%. Clayey radiolarian and radiolarian clayey oozes contain 0.12% P, miopelagic clays 0.21% P, and sediments with high iron and manganese concentrations 0.46% P (average contents). Phosphorus content of iron-manganese nodules varies from 0.14% to 0.39%, average 0.19%. Correlation between phosphorus contents in nodules and surrounding sediments is indicated indirectly by P/Fe ratio. Phosphorus is non-uniformly distributed in some nodules and sometimes correlates with iron. Accumulation of phosphorus in iron-manganese nodules is governed by a degree of manganese predominance in ore components.

Shape of the 230Th vertical distribution curve ideally close to exponential is studied to determine isotopic age of deep-sea sediments. In practice such ideal 230Th vertical distribution curve is rarely occur; secondary maxima and minima often appear on it. It has been shown that oxyhydroxides of Fe, Mn, and also Corg and P are of prime importance for 230Th concentration. A method is offered for normalizing the vertical distribution curve of 230Th based on taking into account content of these elements in sediment.
