Investigation of the losses in the stator duct spacers of large A.C. motors using the A -ip 3-D eddy current formulation

This paper describes how the A -if) formulation may be applied to determine the losses in the stator duct spacers of large a.c. motors. The model is described in terms of its geometry and boundary conditions. The novel aspects of the application of the formulation to this problem are explained. These include the modelling of fixed currents sources (the stator windings), the location of the necessary cut surfaces and the determination of their magnetic scalar potential differences, and the implementation of periodic boundary conditions for vector variables. Results are presented showing how the duct spacer losses vary with load, and with the relative permeability of the spacer material. The effects of modelling iron nonlinearity, of both the spacer and the steel laminations, are also illustrated. © 1996 IEEE.

Economics of operation of 38' G.R.P. fishing vessels issued by the A.D.B. Fisheries Project: a case study

The author gives a financial and economic valuation of the operation of vessels in the 38 foot GRP class. He discusses particularly the materials and methods of fishing they use, species composition of their catches, their rate of return, break-even analysis, financial and social analysis.

Morphometry, length-weight relationship and biology of Sepia aculeata (d'Orbigny, 1848) from Mumbai coast, India

Seventeen morphometric characters of Sepia aculeata of Mumbai coast have been studied and the relationships of morphometric characters with dorsal mantle length (DML) were established. The characters compared showed a fair to high degree of correlation ('r' 0.63-0.99). Number of arm suckers and shell rings were related with DML. The shell rings also showed high degree of correlation with DML ('r' 0.79-0.95). However, the relationship between arm suckers and DML was not so good ('r' 0.1-0.4). The length-weight relationship is described as W=0.1821336 L sub(2.801102). Food and feeding analysis confirm the carnivorous feeding behaviour of the species. Mature females found in all months indicate that it has prolonged spawning season with two peaks, september and march-april. Absolute fecundity ranged from 214 to 4143 eggs.

Some new bounds on eigenvalues of the Hadamard product and the Fan product of matrices

Let A and B be nonsingular M-matrices. A lower bound on the minimum eigenvalue q(B circle A(-1)) for the Hadamard product of A(-1) and B, and a lower bound on the minimum eigenvalue q(A star B) for the Fan product of A and B are given. In addition, an upper bound on the spectral radius rho(A circle B) of nonnegative matrices A and B is also obtained. These bounds improve several existing results in some cases and the estimating formulas are easier to calculate for they are only depending on the entries of matrices A and B. (C) 2009 Elsevier Inc. 云南保山猪线粒体DNA D loop区序列初步分析

为了解云南保山猪(Baoshan pig)的遗传多样性及其遗传背景，我们测定了19个个体线粒体DNA Dloop高变区1 1 5 363 - 1 5 801片段序列438帅。检测到1。种单倍型，包括8个多态位点，其中5次T/ C转换、1次G/ A转换、1次G/ C颠换和1次A/ T颠换，其A.T.GX碱基的平均含量分别为35.4%.26.9%.13.2%和24.5 %,A+ T含量(62 .3)明显高于G+ C含量(37 .7 %)。对于保山猪的保种及其持续利用有着重要的理论指导意义。

白头叶猴线粒体ND4基因和D-环区的序列及其分类地位初探

用PCR(多聚酶链式反应)扩增方法测定白头叶猴、黑叶猴和菲氏叶猴各1只的线粒体DNA ND4整个基因(1377 bp)和D-环500多bp序列。黑叶猴与菲氏叶猴的ND4基因序列碱基差异数高达123,基于ND4基因的遗传距离值为8.9%;白头叶猴与黑叶猴ND4基因序列间碱基差异数为25,遗传距离值为1.8%。在D-环区域,白头叶猴与黑叶猴间的遗传距离为4.3%,而白头叶猴、黑叶猴两者与菲氏叶猴间的遗传距离则分别高达26.4%和26.0%。分析结果表明,白头叶猴恐怕还只是黑叶猴的一个亚种。从保护遗传学角度看,白头叶猴应被看作一个进化显著性单元(evolutionary significant units, ESU),在动物的保护行动中应得到充分的重视。

鲤属鱼类mtDNA控制区（D-环区）序列的变异性分析

采用PCR-测序技术对我国鲤属7个种、亚种和2个品种共62个个体（其中鲤的样品包括采自长江、黄河、松花江三个水系的共4个种群），进行了mtDNA控制区（D-环区）始自3^端共459bp碱基的序列测定，发现其D-环区3^端至中央保守区之间不似其他鱼类和哺乳类是一个单一的高变区，而是在其内部还插有一段长约110bp的保守区，这很可能是鲤属鱼类mtDNA D-环区自身的一个特点。

Response of fishes to the underwater D.C. field

Response to external electric field (D. C.) of three different varieties of fish namely Puntius ticto, Heteropneustis fossilis and Tilapia mossambica having different anatomical and behavioural characteristics were studied. Clearly distinguished reactions occurred one after another m all the varieties of fish with the increase in field intensity with minor specific variations. These reactions can be broadly classified into initial start (first reaction), forced swimming (galvanotaxis), slackening of body muscle (galvanonarcosis) and state of muscular rigidity (tetanus). The orientation of the organism (projection of nervous element) to the surrounding field has been found to have important bearing on the behaviour reactions. Clearly differentiated anodic taxis and true narcosis set in when fish body axis was parallel to the lines of current conduction. But with greater angle between the body axis and the current lines, fish did not show well marked reactions. Fish body, when perpendicular to current lines responded for anodic curvature and off balance swimming followed by tetanus.
