W roku 2012 Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM obchodzi 50-lecie istnieniadziała od roku 1962 jako jednostka ogólnouczelniana Uniwersytetu im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu. Publikuje przede wszystkim monografie naukowe (w 50 seriach tematycznych), podręczniki, skrypty, słowniki, a tae 25 czasopism naukowych (również w językach obcych). Rocznie ukazuje się około 150 tytułów. Za swoje osiągnięcia edytorskie wielokrotnie otrzymywaliśmy nagrody, m.in. na Krajowych Targach Książki Akademickiej ATENA, Wrocławskich Targach Książki Naukowej, Nagrody Klio na Targach Książki Historycznej, nagrody Stowarzyszenia Wydawców Szkół Wyższych im. ks. Edwarda Pudełki za najlepszy podręcznik akademicki oraz dyplomy i wyróżnienia w kolejnych edycjach Poznańskiego Przeglądu Nowości Wydawniczych, organizowanego przez BiblioteRaczyńskich. Nasze książki prezentowane były na międzynarodowych wystawach polskiej książki naukowej organizowanych przez Stowarzyszenie Wydawców Szkół Wyższych w: Paryżu, Londynie, Lwowie, Rzymie, Sztokholmie, Wilnie, Pradze, Kijowie, Petersburgu, Dniepropietrowsku, Watykanie, Wiedniu, Madrycie, a tae na międzynarodowych targach książki we Frankfurcie, Londynie, Moskwie, Zagrzebiu, Győr (Węgry) i Pekinie. Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM jest pomysłodawcą i głównym organizatorem Poznańskich Dni Książki Naukowej, odbywających się nieprzerwanie od 1997 roku i gromadzących wydawców z całej Polski. Miejscem corocznych targów książki jest Hol Wielki Collegium Maius. Wydawnictwo jest jednym z członków założycieli Stowarzyszenia Wydawców Szkół Wyższych oraz członkiem Polskiego Towarzystwa Wydawców Książek.

W części wprowadzającej artykułu pokrótce przedstawiono koncepcję i typologię klastrów, a tae cechy wspólne i różnice między klastrami a organizacjami sieciowymi. Prezentowane w drugiej części artykułu zagadnienia dotyczą szeroko rozumianego zardzania: strategii powstawania klastra, barier rozwoju, czynników decydujących o powodzeniu projektu i korzyści wynikających z jego funkcjonowania w otoczeniu lokalnym. W części końcowej zaprezentowano przykłady współdziałania uczestników klastra wyzwalające efekt synergii.

Among the many issues that were raised in the White Book on National Security of the Republic of Poland (WBNSRP), there were also those related to the functioning of a Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). Its importance for the security of Poland was indicated, as well as the need on the part of EU Member States to broaden collaboration in the sphere of security and defence. The key problems occurring in the context of CSDP were also emphasised and their causes indicated. The aim of the article is to present the factors responsible for the weakening of CSDP effectiveness, ones taken into account in the White Book, and subsequently to present a Framework for their analysis in the light of further scholarship.

Acousto-optic imaging (AOI) in optically diffuse media is a hybrid imaging modality in which a focused ultrasound beam is used to locally phase modulate light inside of turbid media. The modulated optical field carries with it information about the optical properties in the region where the light and sound interact. The motivation for the development of AOI systems is to measure optical properties at large depths within biological tissue with high spatial resolution. A photorefractive crystal (PRC) based interferometry system is developed for the detection of phase modulated light in AOI applications. Two-wave mixing in the PRC creates a reference beam that is wavefront matched to the modulated optical field collected from the specimen. The phase modulation is converted to an intensity modulation at the optical detector when these two fields interfere. The interferometer has a high optical etendue, making it well suited for AOI where the scattered light levels are typically low. A theoretical model for the detection of acoustically induced phase modulation in turbid media using PRC based interferometry is detailed. An AOI system, using a single element focused ultrasound transducer to pump the AO interaction and the PRC based detection system, is fabricated and tested on tissue mimicking phantoms. It is found that the system has sufficient sensitivity to detect broadband AO signals generated using pulsed ultrasound, allowing for AOI at low time averaged ultrasound output levels. The spatial resolution of the AO imaging system is studied as a function of the ultrasound pulse parameters. A theoretical model of light propagation in turbid media is used to explore the dependence of the AO response on the experimental geometry, light collection aperture, and target optical properties. Finally, a multimodal imaging system combining pulsed AOI and conventional B- mode ultrasound imaging is developed. B-mode ultrasound and AO images of targets embedded in both highly diffuse phantoms and biological tissue ex vivo are obtained, and millimeter resolution is demonstrated in three dimensions. The AO images are intrinsically co-registered with the B-mode ultrasound images. The results suggest that AOI can be used to supplement conventional B-mode ultrasound imaging with optical information.

The potential of the violoncello as a solo instrument was recognized and supported by cellists such as Luigi Boccherini (1743-1805), Luis Duport (1749-1819), Auguste Franchomme (1808-1884), and Alfredo Piatti (1822-1901). These pioneers composed technically demanding etudes, exercises, and caprices for the cello that were comparable to those already present in the violin literature. Even so, in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, considerably fewer substantial works were brought forth for the cello as compared with the violin. Consequently, many cellists such as Luigi Silva (1903-1961), Gregor Piatigorsky (1903-1976), Pierre Fournier (1906-1986), and Janos Starker (b. 1924) selected notable pieces from the violin repertoire and transcribed these for the cello. Some composers themselves actually adapted for the cello their own works originally written for the violin. Johannes Brahms with his Violin Sonata Op. 78, Igor Stravinsky with his Suite Italienne, and Béla Bartók with his First Rhapsody all belong to this category. Adaptations such as these further raised awareness among composers and performers of the possibilities of the cello as an independent and expressive instrument. Thus, many composers from the early 1900s to the present were encouraged to write increasing numbers of more soloistic and demanding works for cello. Herein, I explore the repertoire of cello transcriptions in order to analyze the differences between the original and transcribed versions and the challenges found therein. The performer may attempt to recreate the effect originally intended for the violin or, more daringly, may strive to search for alternate presentations of the music more suitable and expressive of the cello's own character. The project includes two recitals of the following transcribed works presented at the University of Maryland College Park, School of Music: Sonata in A by César Franck, transcribed by Jules Delsart, Variations on a Theme from Rossini by Nicolo Paganini, transcribed by Fournier, Suite Italienne by Igor Stravinsky, transcribed with the help of Piatigorsky, Sonatina Op. 137, No. 1 by Franz Schubert, transcribed by Starker, First Rhapsody by Béla Bartók and Sonata, Op. 108 by Johannes Brahms, transcribed by Hsiao-mei Sun.

Robert Bloom (1908-1994) was legendary in the education and performance world. Often hailed as one of the last performers of the Golden Era of classical music and a favorite of conductors ranging from Stokowski to Stravinsky to Shaw, Bloom was an orchestral oboist and English hornist, oboe soloist, chamber musician, teacher (Eastman, Yale, Hartt, Manhattan School of Music, Juilliard and Philadelphia's University of the Arts), composer, conductor, editor of masterworks of the 18th century, and, as a founding member of the Bach Aria group, a seminal influence in the post-WWII revival of Baroque music in America. In The Robert Bloom Collection and the Art of Robert Bloom CD and video archives, we see what his musical ideals were in 1)18th-century performance practices, 2) writing new music for the instrument and commissioning new works, and 3) and transcribing music for the oboe and English horn. As an oboist, I believe it is important that Bloom's teachings, historical performance practices and ideas for expanding repertoire are propagated. Therefore, the works chosen for this dissertation illustrated this legacy. My recitals included 1) some of Bloom's published 18th-century baroque elaborations (his term for ornamentation), as well Baroque works which I have elaborated, 2) works written by him and by other oboists/composers (Labate, Roseman) as well as a flute/oboe duo that I commissioned by Dr. Marcus Maroney and 3) transcriptions by both Bloom and myself (Bach, Donizetti, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Handel, Schumann and Telemann). In these three dissertation recitals, I hope to have illustrated some of Robert Bloom's lasting contributions and impact on the oboe world, and to have demonstrated the potential for carrying forward this legacy by studying his teaching and emulating his example.

Information on 12 exotic plants of diverse interest for the Galician flora are presented. All of them were collected in Ribeira council (SW of the A Cora province). The total includes 8 novelties at a regional level (Aeonium haworthii, Aloe mitriformis, Brugmansia × candida, Nephrolepis cordifolia, Osteospermum ecklonis, Pelargonium capitatum, Sedum mexicanum, Sparaxis tricolor), and 2 provincial novelties. In addition, information on two taxa hardly mentioned in the literature on Galician vascular flora is also included. All the cited specimens are deposited at the SANT Herbarium.

A multiuser scheduling multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) cognitive radio network (CRN) with space-time block coding (STBC) is considered in this paper, where one secondary base station (BS) communicates with one secondary user (SU) selected from K candidates. The joint impact of imperfect channel state information (CSI) in BS → SUs and BS → PU due to channel estimation errors and feedback delay on the outage performance is firstly investigated. We obtain the exact outage probability expressions for the considered network under the peak interference power IP at PU and maximum transmit power Pm at BS which cover perfect/imperfect CSI scenarios in BS → SUs and BS → PU. In addition, asymptotic expressions of outage probability in high SNR region are also derived from which we obtain several important insights into the system design. For example, only with perfect CSIs in BS → SUs, i.e., without channel estimation errors and feedback delay, the multiuser diversity can be exploited. Finally, simulation results confirm the correctness of our analysis.

With the changing demography of populations and increasing prevalence of co-morbidity, frail patients and more complex cardiac conditions, the modern medicine is facing novel challenges leading to rapid innovation where evidence and experiences are lacking. This scenario is also evident in cardiovascular disease prevention, which continuously needs to accommodate its ever changing strategies, settings, and goals. The present paper summarises actual challenges of secondary prevention, and discusses how this intervention should not only be effective but also efficient. By this way the paper tries to bridge the gaps between research and real-world findings and thereby may find ways to improve standard care.
