Fisheries, marine environment, and integrated coastal management policy processes, content and implementation in the BOBLME countries: regional synthesis and country questionnaires

This paper examines policy processes, policy trends and policy implementation with regards to capture fisheries, the marine environment and Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) in BOBLME countries. Individual country information was analyzed to generate a regional synthesis.

Mainstreaming gender in the BOBLME Project

The paper presented a gender audit of international and regional instruments in the eight BOBLME countries. Uneven progress in tackling gender inequalities was found. Entry points to mainstream gender in the Strategic Action Plan(SAP) were identified and key recommendations to BOBLME partner countries were made.

Transboundary diagnostic analysis. Vol. 1. Issues, proximate and root causes

The Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis(TDA) quantifies and ranks water-related environmental transboundary issues and their causes according to the severity of environmental and/or socio-economic impacts. The three main issues in BOBLME are; overexploitation of marine living resources; degradation of mangroves, coral reefs and seagrasses; pollution and water quality. Volume 1 describes the transboundary issues in BOBLME and their proximate and underlying root causes. These will be used to develop a Strategic Action Plan (SAP)

Marine pollution and water quality monitoring in Myanmar: assessment and bridging capacity needs

This study looked at improving knowledge base capacity and enhance capacity to address marine pollution and water quality monitoring issues in Myanmar. Significant capacity needs were identified and a follow up plan presented.

Report on BOBLME Indian mackerel genetic data analysis including final workshop, Phuket, Thailand, 17-19 February 2015

This workshop followed on from two previous workshops held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, 2012 and Kochi, India in 2013. The 14 microsattellite markers had previously been developed for Indian Mackerel (Rastrelliger kanagurta) were used on 31 tissue collections from all eight countries were genotyped in India.

Strengthening the log book recording system for fishing vessels: Sri Lanka

Activities of the project included: preparation of awareness materials on data reporting; organizing stakeholder awareness programmes; setting and maintaining an electronic database; inputs from participants and recommendations

Education and awareness programme on marine protected area management, Bar Reef Marine Sanctuary, Sri Lanka

The objectives of the education programme included: making the fishing community and the younger generation aware of the importance of conserving marine resources; to obtain their suggestions and opinions; and to identify gaps and needs to strengthen local participation.
